Fandom/Universe: MCU, Jessica Jones, Daredevil
Rating: PG
Word count: 14,450

Summary:

“I’m --” Clint stops, trying to wrap his brain around the headlines he’s just read. “I never said you were perfect. Hell, you know I’m not. But you’re not a killer, either. And, I mean...fuck, all those people?”

“You think I’m a bad man?” Frank asks with just a hint of danger in his voice.

Clint opens his mouth and then closes it, choosing his words carefully. “No worse than me,” he says slowly. “I’ve killed people, too. Even without being controlled by a demigod. And I didn’t even have a reason for it.”

Frank snorts. “You don’t need a reason to get angry, Barton. It’s in our blood. Don’t need a reason to act out, either, if they hurt the people you love.”

The Life and Times of Clint Barton: Medical Student

01 January 2016 @ 02:39 pm
TITLE: Red Eye
PAIRING: Clint/Natasha (although this is more early partnership/friendship than romance)
RATING: Teen
WARNINGS: None
SUMMARY: Newly-partnered agents Barton and Romanoff are sent undercover to investigate an allegation of fraud at the county fair.

The mission is a joke.

Well, more of a test than a joke, or at least Clint is pretty sure that’s the point. It could also be a punishment, he supposes, but regardless of what it is, he’s annoyed.

The person of interest is a middle-aged man named Mark Yazbeck whose sun-wrinkled skin reminds Clint of a crumpled up piece of paper. He’s the current owner of Yazbeck Amusements, a traveling carnival and midway company. A carny, as far as the public is concerned, but Clint can’t help viewing the commercialized rides, games, and food carts as something less than the authenticity he remembers from his own days with the circus. Regardless, Yazbeck and his show have become the latest suspects in a case of small scale identity fraud, which apparently now is S.H.I.E.L.D.’s problem. It’s admittedly deplorable, but also exactly the sort of thing local law enforcement or the FBI ought to be handling, Clint thinks, if Fury wasn’t in the market for a training exercise.

Title: So The Lines Are Lost
Rating: R
Pairing/Characters: Clint, Maria, Natasha
Warnings: Hurt/Comfort, Abduction, Torture, Aftermath of Torture, Non-Consensual Touching, Threatened Sexual Violence, Flogging, Electric Burns
Word Count: 6552
Summary: Any other day, Clint would have been able to take him out in fifteen seconds flat, he's pretty sure, but not when he's drunk to the gills and gravity keeps slipping from his command. He does his level best. It's not enough.

Title: NOT YOU
Rating: R
Pairing/Characters: Clint/Natasha/Thor
Warnings: somewhat graphic violence, threesome, trauma, hurt/comfort
Word Count: 4273
Summary: Clint's caught in a bad situation and the team resorts to desperate measures to get him out, but the aftermath leaves Clint badly shaken and in need of the kind of repairs only his two most trusted friends can give him
This will probably make slightly more sense if you've read the rest of the "Various Definitions" series, of which this is a one-shot, but if you're just here for the smut the rest of the series is pretty much irrelevant (unless you want to know why there is a Clint/Natasha/Thor threesome). Hope this post follows the rules and isn't a mess.

Title: “Pilot”
Author: Koren M.
A Gift For: [livejournal.com profile] topaz119
Rating: Teen
Warnings: language
Prompt used: “I love fusions, where canon is translated into a different historical era or genre” - well, it’s certainly a fusion, and definitely a different genre. (Are the 90’s considered a different historical era? Because if not, they really should be.)
Summary: He walks into the basement office expecting his new assignment to be a glorified babysitting job. He certainly isn’t expecting to get drawn into a shadow war much more sinister and desperate than the one he just left behind.
The more things change…
The more they remain the same.
(Or, the X-Files AU you never knew you needed.)

Author Notes:

This is entirely AoU (and everything else) divergent, no MCU canon need apply. ;)

So this? Was not my original plan for this exchange. And by “not my original plan” I mean I had 85-90% of the fic I was originally writing done when I sat down Monday night, but instead of finishing that, I suddenly had Natasha in my head uttering the line “I was under the impression you were sent to spy on me”.

And whoosh down the rabbit hole I went. A few hours later, I had this. Some iconic conversations and actions/reactions remained the same, while others shifted and changed dramatically. I (hope) I did what was most true to the characters and the original story. I was really excited to see how it all played out, and the possibilities for how other moments or events might happen has me almost giddy. (That said, I haven't really done something quite like this before, so that could also be the nerves talking...)

Many, many thanks to kadollan for the beta-reading (and pouring the tea about the articles of serial killers).

I’m not sure it’s “fun and light” (I’m sorry!), but I also wouldn’t by any means call it overly angsty or dark fic, and I hope you like it! :D

Agent Barton, do you know why you're here?

Title:  Angel of Mercy, Angel of Death
Author: alphaflyer
Rating:  T
Warnings:  war time violence

Summary: Clint Barton turns up in a refugee camp that is under attack -- but is he the answer to a prayer, or a just another nightmare? An aid worker's perspective.

Author's note: Sometimes it bears remembering what “master assassins” actually do for a living, and why the MCU goes to some pains to show us that being saved by the Avengers can be a distinctly mixed blessing. Inspired by the lyrics of Angel of Death, by HoneyHoney.

A companion piece, of sorts, to in "In the Service".

warnings: none

summary: The potential for devastation is huge. The staff of the Library's North American branch risk their lives every second they search for the monster hiding on the shelves, knowing they must kill it when they find it. And find it they must; the entire continent's collected knowledge, literature, and histories are at stake. So... just another Monday, then.

author's note: This was tangentially inspired by, but is completely unrelated to, the Library from The Librarians. The title refers to The Very Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Press. And finally, many thanks to cybermathwitch, who made this so much better. <3 All remaining mistakes are mine!

“And the long lost travelers return!” Steve’s cheerful greeting welcomed the pair as Clint opened the door to the office’s common room, letting Natasha step in before him.

11 March 2015 @ 07:51 pm
Rating: General Audiences
Pairing: Clint Barton & Natasha Romanoff; gen
Warnings: None
Summary: Clint has more than a few concerns about Tony's new Avengers themepark. Trouble is, no one wants to hear them from the focus group's "least marketable Avenger." Looks like he'll just have to investigate for himself. As usual.

In the beginning, the idea is Tony’s. And of course it is -- Nobody else would be capable of coming up with such a spectacularly crazy and yet also somehow ingenious endeavor.

Well, back up. That isn’t exactly right. Really the idea begins with Steve, on the day he comes in to his own weekly briefing meeting looking uncharacteristically forlorn. Clint notices--was aware even before Steve’s entrance that something is off because today Steve is late, and that never happens short of an actual global catastrophe. He doesn’t say anything, though, because it doesn’t seem like any of his business.

“What’s wrong, Stars-and-Stripes?” asks Tony, who apparently does not have any of the same reservations. He leans back in his chair and props his feet on the edge of the table, which earns a look of mild disgust from Natasha. “Shield get a scratch?”
