For [livejournal.com profile] alphaflyer, who mentioned wanting something short to read after a long day, I found one of my favorite fluffy Clintasha fics. Can't get me enough of Liho and Lucky :D This fic is set in Fraction and Aja's Hawkeye verse, featuring Kate as your friend who you really should listen to more often than you do.

  Serendipity, by silverfoxflower

"Why are you still in bed?" Kate demands, kicking at a corner of Clint’s mattress, which, rude. Why were girls and cats always so rude to him.

"Lucky turned into a cat," Clint says, burying his head in the pillow. "I’m hoping that if I wake up tomorrow, he’ll be back to normal."

Here’s the thing about Laura Barton: Everyone assumes she met Clint first. After all, he had a farm, and he had kids, and he had a life that seemed like it came well before Natasha Romanoff and the Avengers.

Here’s the thing about Laura Barton: The real truth is that she fell in love with Natasha Romanoff first.

Title: every city was a gift
Pairings: Clint Barton/Natasha Romanoff
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: approx. 2,800
Summary: SHIELD’s greatest urban legend is that when Natasha Romanoff later declares, “Agent Barton was sent to kill me; he made a different call”, she means that on that day, he chose to spare her, chose to bring her in instead. But what actually happens is something much stranger and much wilder, something that ends up spanning several years and countless cities and, here and there, a drink or a meal or a quiet smile exchanged on the rooftop of a building in Brooklyn.
He lets her go.
This is what follows.
Warnings: n/a

( Natasha Romanoff was KGB before she was SHIELD, and she has always been her own woman before anything else. )

Title: Wheel of Fortune - Chapter 3
Rating: Teen and Up
Pairing/Characters: Clint Barton/Natasha Romanoff, Sam Wilson, Wanda Maximoff, Pietro Maximoff
Warnings: Canon typical violence, era typical racism
Word Count: 1190 words (this chapter)
Summary: A pyramid in the middle of Croatia in 1943? You have got to be kidding. Add a mythical cannon wheel that will grant its owner success in all combat situations, Nazis, Soviets and a beautiful redhead hot on its heels - Not a good day for Clint "Hawkeye" Barton, adjunct professor of archaeology at Washington University in St. Louis.

Chapter 3 is finally up if you're still interested :) Read it here on AO3.

Prompt used: Treasure Hunters AU
Summary: A pyramid in the middle of Croatia in 1943? You have got to be kidding. Add a mythical cannon wheel that will grant its owner success in all combat situations, Nazis, Soviets and a beautiful redhead hot on its heels - Not a good day for Clint "Hawkeye" Barton, adjunct professor of archaeology at Washington University in St. Louis.
Author Notes: My dear [livejournal.com profile] crazy4orcas asked for a Treasure Hunters AU and my mind immediately leapt to Indiana Jones. Add to that a rumor I heard about pyramids in what is now Bosnia and my imagination went on the run. Unfortunately it ran further than my time allowed, so only the first two chapters of the fic are done so far. But I'll add more asap, promise!

Title: If You Got a Hammer and a Vise
Author: [livejournal.com profile] celeste9
A Gift For: [livejournal.com profile] shenshen77
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: rated for language, very mild violence, some sexual innuendo
Prompt used: Bodyguard!AU (maybe with Nat as the bodyguard?)
Summary: Clint thought getting out of the family business would make his life less complicated, but that was before Barney insisted he needed a bodyguard.
Author Notes: I loved the idea of Nat as a bodyguard to Clint, hope you like the result! I did originally want to try for an OT3 type fic as you mentioned, but soon realized that unfortunately, I'm not sure how to write Laura just yet, so it's just Clint/Nat. :) I did include Barney Barton and Kate Bishop as they helped me make the story fit together, but absolutely no comics background on them is needed. With thanks to [livejournal.com profile] carlyinrome for the beta. The title is from Bruce Springsteen, 'Secret Garden'.

Title: “Pilot”
Author: Koren M.
A Gift For: [livejournal.com profile] topaz119
Rating: Teen
Warnings: language
Prompt used: “I love fusions, where canon is translated into a different historical era or genre” - well, it’s certainly a fusion, and definitely a different genre. (Are the 90’s considered a different historical era? Because if not, they really should be.)
Summary: He walks into the basement office expecting his new assignment to be a glorified babysitting job. He certainly isn’t expecting to get drawn into a shadow war much more sinister and desperate than the one he just left behind.
The more things change…
The more they remain the same.
(Or, the X-Files AU you never knew you needed.)

Author Notes:

This is entirely AoU (and everything else) divergent, no MCU canon need apply. ;)

So this? Was not my original plan for this exchange. And by “not my original plan” I mean I had 85-90% of the fic I was originally writing done when I sat down Monday night, but instead of finishing that, I suddenly had Natasha in my head uttering the line “I was under the impression you were sent to spy on me”.

And whoosh down the rabbit hole I went. A few hours later, I had this. Some iconic conversations and actions/reactions remained the same, while others shifted and changed dramatically. I (hope) I did what was most true to the characters and the original story. I was really excited to see how it all played out, and the possibilities for how other moments or events might happen has me almost giddy. (That said, I haven't really done something quite like this before, so that could also be the nerves talking...)

Many, many thanks to kadollan for the beta-reading (and pouring the tea about the articles of serial killers).

I’m not sure it’s “fun and light” (I’m sorry!), but I also wouldn’t by any means call it overly angsty or dark fic, and I hope you like it! :D

Agent Barton, do you know why you're here?
I began this summer wanting to make lots of podfic so I started out with a "warm up" of a fic I wrote ~a year ago for last year's promptathon, but then real life got in the way and I kind of forgot? to post it all summer? but anyway here's my attempt at contributing a little to fandom again after lurking for months!

Greetings! I come bearing genfic/friendship fic:

The Velveteen Spider [LJ notice | tumblr notice]
26k words | PG-13-ish | Natasha Romanova, Clint Barton, et al.

summary: Natasha Romanova thinks that accepting Nick Fury's offer to join SHIELD is the end of her old life and the beginning of her new one. In hindsight, she had no idea of what that really meant.

“You’re an idiot, Barton,” she said when he’d finished. “An amazing idiot.”

He made a dismissive noise as he shifted over to get up, presumably to go to the restroom. “Is that anything to say to your best friend?”

She looked up at him, shocked at the words. “Who says that you are my best friend?”

“You got any others?” he asked with a shrug. “Therefore, I am the best one.”

“That means you are also the worst one,” she called after him as he headed off, but she was just drunk enough for the words to float around in her mind like mosquitoes.

She remembered the conversation the next morning, when she dragged her hungover but far more sturdy self to SHIELD’s New York headquarters off Times Square to go get yelled at by Coulson in person. She could say that Barton was presumptuous for considering himself her friend, but it would probably be more truthful to say that he’d simply recognized it sooner.

That’s when she started calling him Clint, first in her head and then out loud. The first time, it slipped out and it startled her. Startled Clint, too, but he recovered and beamed at her and then continued driving like a maniac because it was the only way they were going to get out of Hungary alive unless they wanted to swim the Danube from Budapest to Vienna.

Rating/Warnings: PG13 (off-screen multilation of dead bodies, sometimes Clint kills people for a living, this demon wants to eat dead people, swearing, and Clint rambing whilst on drugs - for medical reasons)
Length: 4515 words
Summary: In which a red-haired demon follows Clint home, but he takes a while to catch on.
Author Note: Sequel to The Summoning. Written for this prompt from [livejournal.com profile] scribble_myname in the [livejournal.com profile] be_compromised 2015 Valentine's Mini Promptathon. (Yes, I am still working on old prompts. Shhh.) With thanks to [livejournal.com profile] franztastisch for beta-reading this into better-ness :)

This is a mix of a lot of things – MCU, Fraction & Aja’s Hawkeye, and my portrayal of Stephen Strange is the MCU version that you haven’t met yet and will most likely be jossed ;) Remember: it’s not cannibalism if you’re eating a different species and the author takes no responsibility for anyone practicing demonic arts (even if acting on information provided by Strange).

Word Count: approx. 10,600
Summary: Clint accidentally, drunkenly orders a mail order bride. Natasha arrives at his doorstep a week later. He has no idea what he just got himself into.

03 March 2015 @ 01:11 am
Author: Avenging Archer
Pairing/Characters: Clint/Natasha, the usual SHIELD and Marvel characters
Word Count: Novel length ongoing WIP. Estimate when complete 80K words
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Some violence as per fitting a spy story, profanity suited to an ex military Army Ranger, some sexual situations and innuendo. No gratuitous gore or porn, but this isn’t a children’s tale either.
Many thanks to Alpha Flyer for betaing the early chapters!

Summary: She'd had no idea that such a coincidental meeting would change her life so dramatically. He'd spared her life, giving her a second chance to find purpose and a way to balance her ledger. Their friendship? She didn't over analyze it. It didn't need defining. It was hers. Hers and his. That was all that mattered…until he was compromised and she came face to face with Loki and found herself unwittingly compromised as well. Black Widow/Hawkeye. Movieverse with a touch of comic canon per author's prerogative.

“Are those shots I’m hearing?” Coulson’s voice came over his comm.

“No, they’re firecrackers!” Clint barked as he rolled off of Natasha.

She glanced at him as if he were crazy, then registered to whom he was speaking and proceeded to snort with amusement. Clint shook his head and took a quick assessment of the situation.

He didn’t like what he concluded. She had rolled into a crouch behind a nearby pile of rock, her face an expressionless mask of calm despite the fact that they were trapped against a wall with an indeterminate number of enemies firing from the abandoned building and all they had for cover was some scattered rubble and rocks from upper sections of the wall that had fallen over the course of time.

Summary: Clint doesn't celebrate birthdays, because nobody cares about his birthday. Until somebody does.
Author’s Notes: This was a birthday request from a friend. Actually, she just asked for Clint. But I can't have Clint without Natasha, so... (and thank you all for the warm welcome. Hopefully I'm not wearing it out)

Title: and sometimes when you fall, you fly (also on AO3)

Rating/Warnings: R (sex, f-word)

Length: 5,950 words

Summary: “If you could choose – if you’d had the choice – would you have gone with Steve?" Clint asks Peggy Carter, a question that she of all people might be able to answer and one that he hates to ask.
A belated repsonse to this prompt [livejournal.com profile] scribble_myname left in the 2014 promptathon: Clint was a time travel operative [for a future version of SHIELD/any other organization from a different time] who fell in love with Natasha while on a mission and chose to stay in the MCU timeline with her. Every day, he can feel the tug of the timeline to get him back to where he belongs and chooses to stay.

Author Note: With thanks to [livejournal.com profile] franztastisch for beta reading this into making more sense! Title is a quote from The Sandman: Fables and Reflections by Neil Gaiman, as per the link text.

You know what happens when you dream of falling? Sometimes you wake up.
Sometimes the fall kills you.
And sometimes, when you fall, you fly.
