strike team delta & co.
rating: pg
characters: Clint Barton, Pietro Maximoff, Wanda Maximoff, Natasha Romanoff
warnings: mild language, minor references to canon childhood trauma

summary: In the early days of their partnership and the last days of a border war, Clint and Natasha are sent to Sokovia with a simple mission: retrieve time-sensitive intel and get out. But there are more than bombs and fading ghosts in the city's dusty streets, and the secrets that brought death and destruction also made two barefoot orphans to shadow their searching steps.

author's note: Inspired by this fantastic art by koreanrage of Clint, Natasha, and the kid Maximoff twins. As this is somewhat canon compliant, I couldn't wrangle powered!twins, but here, have a glance at how they might have found each other.

Thanks to cybermathwitch and findthesea for listening to me yell about this for a little while. The above icon is for both of you.

It’s meant to be a simple side mission in Sokovia, a natural segue after Strike Team Delta stops by the Czech Republic.

Story:  Holding Out For A Hero
Rating:  PG13
Characters/Relationships:  Clint Barton/Laura Barton; Clint Barton; Laura Barton; Cooper Barton; Clint Barton & Natasha Romanoff (background)
Beta:  Kylen

Summary:  Cooper Barton pens an essay about his Dad; Laura does damage control.  Clint helps (sort of).

Note: I will go down with my ship, but that doesn't mean I can't play in those unploughed new fields, does it?

Read it on AO3 (It's also on FFN, but if you want to see Cooper's essay in all its glory, that's available only on AO3).

Title: A Meditation in Time of War (part 6 of A Dialogue of Self and Soul)
Pairing: Clint Barton/Natasha Romanov
Rating: PG
Warnings: None
Summary: It’s amazing what he’s sacrificed for her, she realizes - and what they’ve sacrificed for themselves to keep each other alive in this world that constantly seems determined to tear them apart. And now we’re going to be responsible for someone else’s sacrifices.
Notes: The final installment of A Dialogue of Self and Soul series. Quite possibly the longest, but! baby pay-off, angst, and the surprise appearance of Jemma Simmons. And, uh, a lot of really long author notes at the end, for reasons.

Read here on AO3.

Entire series can be found here.

NOTE: I am going to talk extensively about the fics “Make the World Brand New” by whiskeyinmind and “Only Human” by anuna_81 which shall include huge, whopping spoilers. You’ve been warned! :-)

I was inspired to put forth this topic by two stories that took very different yet equally unique takes on the whole “little people” trope. The first is Make the World Brand New, by whiskeyinmind, written for anuna_81 for Secret Santa 2013. In it, the first time Natasha sees Clint, 11 years before he actually brings her in, it’s because she set up a trap for SHIELD with the sole purpose of handing her newborn baby girl over to them. She wanted the beautiful baby she knew she was about to have to be brought up in a good place instead of in the Red Room so she took steps to ensure the desired result. I love that the entire concept of this fic is that Natasha, young as she was when forced to have a baby by the sick puppies at the Red Room despite all of the conditioning they tried to twist into her, knew that her baby deserved better. She knew that and she acted on it, no matter how terrifying it was. She knew how to be a mom.

Second – Only Human by anuna_81. I’m going to point out upfront that one of the underlying concepts of this particular story is actually kind of douchebaggish on Natasha’s part, although Clint does admit later that he could have put a stop to it if he had wanted to. A long time ago, the Red Room made Natasha miscarry a pregnancy and she never really got over it. After she and Clint become a couple, she comes to want a child with him but can’t really put it in words to herself, and she at-first-unconsciously-but-then-not manipulates them into no longer using birth control (which is the fairly douchebaggish part.) When she admits to it (because she doesn’t get pregnant and has a mini-meltdown), he tells her he pretty much knew what was going on, and she apologizes. Then they decide together to work to have a baby. It’s a beautiful story about her reclaiming her body in defiance of those who would try to dictate to her what she could and could not do with it.

I love the idea of one or both of our favorite assassins coming to decide they want a child. Now I also like a good “unexpected kid!”fic, because you know, I like me some babies in general, but what about when it’s a purposeful thing? All kidding aside, I don’t think the Red Room, unless they were the ones behind it, would ever allow one of their assets to go on maternity leave. That’s just who and what they were. But to quote Jurassic Park, nature finds a way. (See Miracle by Frea_O to read a particularly awesome take on that take on how our OTP ends up with child through a bizarre series of biological mishaps – it’s pretty freakin’ awesome.) What makes two people with their kind of background decide that children are a good idea? Would they? Children being a purposeful thing isn’t a common trope, so I’m going with the thought that most of us don’t think most of the time that they would do that. What would change that and/or inspire it? What about when the pregnancy is unexpected? What brings them around to thinking it’s an okay idea (or do they come to that?)

So what do you think? What prompted this was the concept of trying to have kids, but again, the associated question is what do they do when children come when they’re not trying (‘cause we all know it happens!)? I’m sharing some of my favorite examples below. Please share yours, and feel free to throw in some comment fic!

[Edit: the awesome fic "Only Human" is by anuna_81 and *posted* to head_on_home. :-) ]

Things to remember:
1) Always label NSFW (Not Safe For Work) stuff in the title and post under a cut.
2) Fic and artwork needs to have a rating and warnings (or you can say that you’ve chosen not to use warnings).
3) For people with annoying internet connections, say in the title if a comment is graphic/images/gif-heavy and post picspams under a cut.
4) Have a damn good time! (Because if that’s not happening then this post has clearly failed.)

A Gift From: [livejournal.com profile] alphaflyer
Type Of Gift: Fic
Title: Silver Bells
A Gift For: [livejournal.com profile] ellavescent
Rating:PG-13
Warnings:some swearing, mild sexual references, movie-level violence
Summary/Prompts Used: So you think that taking a baby on a mission to capture a kidnapping gang is nothing short of lunacy? Clint and Natasha couldn't agree more. Yet here they are, trapped in suburbia with a miniature civilian in tow, just days before Christmas -- theirs is not exactly a wonderful life. Or is it?
Based on the following prompts: Baby!fic -- something different from the idea that a baby is a spanner in the works for Clint and Natasha; Natasha falls for Clint first; and Domesticity -- perhaps they fell into it without meaning to? Oh, and anything relating to the holidays.
Author's Note:I’m not sure that this is entirely what you expected, Ella (may I call you Ella?) but I’m wired a certain way and … well, we are who we are, for better or worse, and my mind is a steel pretzel.
Thanks to the world's most wonderful beta, Shenshen77, and to those of you who patted me on the head when I wailed Baby!fic??? I can't do Baby!fic!!!!!

08 October 2013 @ 09:00 pm
Title: Connective tissue
Fandom: MCU
Pairing: Clint/Natasha, established
Rating: PG 13
Warnings: abandonment and rejection issues (due to childhood trauma)
Summary: It was strange how some things remained stubbornly painful, as if they happened yesterday.

Author's notes: I've done plenty of fics which dealt with Natasha's thoughts and feelings about becoming a parent. This one focuses on Clint, on some bad things he experienced as a child, and how those experiences shape his parenthood related fears.

Read it here at AO3. Thoughts and comments are always welcome!

angles on an angel
rating: PG
characters: Clint Barton, Natasha Romanoff
warnings: mentions of past violence
prompt: Natasha is undercover at a private boarding school as a dance instructor. Her primary objective is keeping the daughters of a diplomat(?)safe. Clint is doing the hard work, watching Natasha's back from any and all high spots he can find. In any other time and place, he doubts anyone would have noticed him. Unfortunately, he's been spotted by a few of the young girls (who knew that children could be so observant when adults so rarely are) and he and Natasha have to think quick before everything falls apart. - [livejournal.com profile] lar_laughs

summary: Elton John's tiny dancer was iconic. Clint's are tinier, nosier, and safe for the moment - because it's his job to keep it that way. Maybe his lie holds more truth than he knows.

author's note: So I missed [livejournal.com profile] lar_laughs's birthday, then stumbled across this prompt when the ATTF post got me going through old promptathons. The following is what happened afterwards. (I bumped the ages down so the kids are now just attending dance lessons; hope that's okay.) Happy belated birthday! :)

note II: Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] cybermathwitch for her beta'ing! All mistakes are mine.

“What are you doing up there?” One of the tiny tots calls, her head craned back to look at him.

Title: Learning to play the song in your heart
Fandom: The Avengers 2012 (MCU), Marvel
Characters: Clint Barton, Natasha Romanoff, Kate Bishop, Phil Coulson, Nick Fury. Mention of several OCs.
Pairing: Clint/Natasha
Rating: M for language and sexual content
Genre: emotional hurt/comfort, introspection, friendship, UST, romance, pregnancy, families of choice, friendship to romantic relationship, fatherhood
Warnings: mild sexual content, unplanned pregnancy, canon compliant abuse in the past, past miscarriage, fertility issues

Summary: There was something about that entire moment. About the fact that he wanted to have next of kin and the way he was pressed up against her stomach, and the fact that he had both her and her daughter in his arms. It seemed like a good place to settle into.

When Natasha chooses to keep an unplanned pregnancy, Clint decides to help her in any way he can. Only, it turns out to be more difficult than he expected.

Author's notes: this is one of those stories that just don't leave you alone. They demand to be told and refuse to leave you until you set them free. I'm aware that this isn't something some of you would call an ideal romance, that it's not a pleasant situation, but life is often comprised of unpleasant, less than ideal situations, and in those situations real friendships and love are tested. I appreciate any kind of feedback if it's delivered in polite and civilized fashion. Please let me know what you thought.

A/N 2: just a couple of notes. Thanks to few of my friends I’ve always imagined Bobbi Morse with brown hair. IDEK. Also, in this fic, Kate Bishop is twenty five-ish years old. Obviously I borrowed from comics and changed things a little bit, I hope you don’t mind.

A huge, massive thank you goes to - [livejournal.com profile] shenshen77 and [livejournal.com profile] asken_key for sticking with me all through this and keeping me from going insane, to SidheRa, [livejournal.com profile] enigma731 and [livejournal.com profile] frea_o, for their advice and suggestions. Summary: The Clint she knew would have asked her things like: if she had to run to bathroom every five minutes, if she was getting tired, if she had been sore. The Clint she knew would have offered her a back rub, in fact that guy had promised to help her in any way he could. He didn’t know what to do with himself, or why he suddenly felt so uneasy and scared. He knew he shouldn’t have, and it bothered him.

I am very much not a graphic artist, but I did try something for the February header challenge. It was fairly disastrous as I either destroyed everything I created, or it was too big, or it looked bizarre, or ... the list goes on. Yeah. Epic fail, people. I went ahead and shared the only one that was the correct dimensions for the challenge because I liked the concept so much, but it wasn't the best one (by far).

The graphic I managed to make that I liked the most I am including below the cut because it is much better than the one that I submitted for the contest and it really is a fun concept. I think it's big enough to use as a screensaver or just to enjoy or just to see how cute our favorite assassins would have been as children.

Feel free to take - just let me know. Because that would stun and delight me. *laughs*

Still not perfect, but it was fun to make. )

Warnings: No major warnings apply, but the fic does involve violence along with a child and a pregnant woman in danger. Each chapter has notes that explain any potential warnings.

Here is a roundup of a few fanfics I've posted to Ao3 that are relevant to your interests. Thanks muchly to [livejournal.com profile] lar_laughs, [livejournal.com profile] frea_o and [livejournal.com profile] shenshen77 for their beta work on the various fics.

Parenthood is Hard
Rating: R
Warnings: Swearing, Graphic violence (adult on adult), Brief torture scene (adult on adult)
Word Count: 3,800
Summary: A kidfic I started an eon ago in response to the kidfic Friday.  While Natasha is at work, Clint is forced to defend his child and his home.

A thump from outside his house was the first thing that told Clint something was wrong. He woke abruptly in the chair he had fallen asleep in, the book he had been reading to his daughter still in his hand.

Strength is Weakness and Weakness is Strength
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Swearing, Minor Violence, Hostage and captor interaction
Word Count: 1,700
Summary: A Supernatural crossover, which someone at this bar prompted (unfortunately I've forgotten who it was, so let me know). Clint and Dean bond while being kidnapped.

“Think they’re coming soon?” Dean asked. “I’m starting to lose circulation in my legs. And if my baby gets hurt while I’m gone, I’m gonna kill Sam.” Clint frowned. He hadn’t thought the Winchesters had romantic companions that lasted for any length of time. Clearly he had been misinformed.

Unnecessary Defense (because we love you)
Rating: PG
Warnings: Swearing (nothing like warnings for making you realize how limited your vocab is!), Minor Minor Violence
Word Count: 2,000
Summary: Five times someone defended Natasha when she didn't need it, and the one time she did. For [livejournal.com profile] cybermathwitch, who ran the Secret Santa so well.

“Some have criticized the Black Widow and her role on the Avengers team. She’s a spy, not a superhero. And let’s be honest, fellas, while she looks good in a skintight suit, she doesn’t do much damage with those tiny guns of hers, does she?”

Title: Just over the dawn
Fandom: The Avengers 2012 / Marvel MCU
Characters: Natasha Romanoff, Steve Rogers, Clint Barton, Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, Darcy Lewis…. Others get a mention too.
Pairing: Clint/Natasha
Rating: adult, non explicit mention of sex.
Genre: Babyfic. Fluff. Friendship. Lots of friendship!! Honest to God, unapologetic Christmas fluff with friendship and family and dancing. There are gifts. And a party. And fluff. Seriously, it’s tons of fluff.
Warnings: none. I think. If I mistakenly missed something, please let me know.
Summary: “He doesn't notice when exactly it happens, but somehow he feels more involved and less lonely”. Or – how Steve’s Christmas sucked, but turned out much better than he ever hoped. Having good friends certainly helped. Part of Kobayashi Maru series. (It definitely is a series now).
A/N: written as a Christmas treat for everyone, but a special dedication goes to [livejournal.com profile] crazy4orcas who spent hours and days talking to me about Kobayashi, giving me prompts and sharing plot bunnies and being so generous and awesome – thank you so SO MUCH. Huge thank you to my wonderful beta and friend [livejournal.com profile] cybermathwitch who made this infinitely better. I couldn’t do this without you, my dear!
