Now that Promptathon is over All The Things Fridays will resume as per your usual community experience *grins*. Which means we need some ideas and hosts!

What is this All The Things Friday of which you speak?
All The Things Friday is bascially a day where we have a post that kicks off a party. That post can be a call out for recs, discussion, picspams, meta, thinky thoughts, squee, dance parties, mini challenges, ANYTHING that you would like to see on this comm. You can take a look at any of the tags with 'Friday' in to see the kinds of things that we've gotten up to before. Although if someone has already used your idea, don't worry; repeats are fine, because there are always new fics to rec and ideas had :)

Who can host?
Anyone. You can host on your own, or as a team, or with a mod.

What does hosting mean?
Being the person that writes the party post. Usually then joining in with the fun that happens. You can know what you want your topic to be in advance, or come up with it on the day.

It's moderating something?
No, don't worry. If you have any problems throw it to the mods as normal. It's more like chairing a gathering, being the DJ, yelling for drinks all around. It's as much or as little work as you want it to be.

You write a post about what kind of Friday you want it to be, opening up the floor, and you post it at any time on a Friday. For people worried about timezones, really, any time (we tend to party on into the weekend anyway). At the bottom of your Friday post we'd like you to copy and paste this:

Wow, choosing July’s banner was difficult with so many gorgeous graphics! As evidenced by the very close voting! I can now reveal that: banner one, banner two, and banner three were by [livejournal.com profile] allisnow, banner four and banner eight were by [livejournal.com profile] slytheringurrl, banner five was by [livejournal.com profile] endeni, and banner six and banner seven were by [livejournal.com profile] jacedesbff. And July’s banner is BANNER TWO! Thank you all for the pretties :D

And now for an extra special edition of our Community Banner Challenge. Keep reading, because we’re not just going to need graphics makers for this one. We’re going to need everyone, with your ideas hats on, because August (in a tease for other things to come) is PROMPTING MONTH.

August’s Challenge: In honour of another prompting type thing coming soon (keep your eyes peeled!) here’s how this month’s challenge is going to work: anyone and everyone can leave as many prompts as they like, a prompt being something they’d like to see in a banner, a certain style of banner, a song lyric, absolutely anything. Banners do have to contain Clint and Natasha, although they can contain other people as well, and they do need to be safe for work. You can post as many prompts as you like, but please post each prompt in it’s own separate comment. These comments will automatically be screened and your mods will unscreen them.

Banner makers will then post their banners in comments as responses to these prompts, in the usual manner, and these comments will remain screened until after voting to keep things anonymous so you won’t see a response to your prompts until after a banner for August has been chosen. FOR ONE MONTH ONLY, banner makers, there’s no limit for the amount of banners that you can make.

August Deadline: You can post prompts from now up until Sunday 21st July. Banners can be posted from now until Friday 26th July. (Then voting will be until Midnight GMT Wednesday 31st July. If we have many, many banners there may be rounds of voting or something. Watch this space.)

And the usual info:

Here’s how the banner challenge works: we set you a theme on the first of each month. People then make banners and comment with them to that month’s post – all comments will be screened; comments without banners in them will then be unscreened. (I can’t reply to the comments with banners in them without unscreening them, so anything you want a response to needs to be in a separate comment.) Banners will then all be saved to the community’s photobucket, so don’t worry about hotlinking or broken links. There will be a limit for sending banners in, something like two to three weeks. Then we’ll post all of the banners anonymously and everyone in the community can vote for their favourite (including the makers, but you do only get one vote each). That new banner is then our banner for the following month. Hopefully we’ll keep enough interest to be able to this monthly!

The Rules:
1) Everyone is invited to play, seriously, everyone, the more the merrier!
2) Banners must be safe for work.
3) Banners must have a width of 800 and a height of 350 and preferably be a png or jpg file.
4) We will make your banners anonymous, so please don’t tell or show anyone what you’ve made. Once the winner has been chosen though you’re free to share your banner wherever you like. (So, for example, if you make a banner for August’s challenge you’ll be free to do whatever you like with it from August 1st.)
5) When new films come out (Iron Man 3, Thor 2) please don’t use images from those until we say it’s safe so no one gets spoiled!
6) You can submit no more than 3 banners (for now).

As stated, all comments to this post will be screened. Comments that don’t contain banners will be unscreened. So feel free to ask questions, give us feedback, and all that jazz :)

First off, a message from your mods:

Our hearts are saddened by the events in Boston and by every instance where senseless violence takes innocent lives. We send all our thoughts and wishes out to each and every member of this bar, and especially those who may have been directly affected. Fandom can seem like such a trivial thing sometimes, but it can also be a place of solace and comfort and if we could reach through the interwebs right now and hug everyone we would. Greetings oh Bar of Bars!

It's that time again. Bring us your picspams and meta and recs, bring us your squee and thinky thoughts and impromptu dance parties.... and come and sign up to host an All the Things Friday!

You can host as a team, you can host by yourself, you can have your topic figured out in advance or come up with it later-- it's all good. Hello members of the best bar on earth!

Generally speaking, this bar encourages personal freedom whenever possible (of creativity, of expression, of squee), and so we try not to over regulate if we can avoid it. However, sometimes it’s a good idea to examine our policies and see if we can improve them. Discussions on some of these policies have led us to do a comprehensive rules post and so here we are.

These rules apply to all members—writers and readers and artists and enablers and cheerleaders and lurkers alike—so please spend a few minutes reviewing them.

As part of the reveals for Secret Santa 2012 here’s a collection of all the gift banners in one place with their creators revealed. The original plan was maybe two of us making a handful of banners and then customizing them with the gift details. This turned into a whole team making a grand total of 60 gift banners, plus icons to kick the exchange off, graphics for the organisers, and (still to come) participation graphics! It's possible that we got carried away...in a glorious fashion :D

(Alas, I'm not sure who our thousandth member is, but I wish there was a way to find out so we could throw them a party or something-- or at least make a commemorative icon. :D)

Hello all!

We've got about a week and a half to go until time to turn in your Secret Santa gifts, so I wanted to do a quick Check-In post and get an idea of a. what people are doing (this will help me plan the posting schedule) and b. how close y'all are to done.

We want all the entries in as promptly as possible, but if you think you might need some kind of extension, please please please let us know ASAP.



First, for the check-in:

Please copy and paste the code below into a comment and fill in your responses. I've set up the comments as "screened" so that I and the mods are the only people who can see them. (Though please keep in mind that the mods are playing, too, so don't mention who you're making a gift for. We want everything to be a surprise!)




Second: Reminders

Submissions are due December 20th, by 11 pm (whatever your local time is).
Please do not post your gifts/submissions on your own journals or other archives until *after* the reveal date. Since this is an annonymous exchange we'll be posting the fics and art directly to the comm at first.

(I'm working on setting up an AO3 collection, and will have more information about that when I post the submission guidelines.)

Submissions should be in plain text with simple html mark-up for things like italics and bold text. [livejournal.com profile] inkvoices did a fantastic tutorial on basic html mark-up here.

If you are writing/creating a community treat, you are welcome to post those all month long. Community treats are not anonymous and also don't have to wait until after the 20th. :D

Calling all artists, icon makers, and graphics people of all kinds!

The Secret Santa holiday exchange is next month and we’re looking to do some fun things. At the moment the plan is for banners for each gift with the title of the gift and the recipient on it (probably 600 width, 200 height), participant banners, and participant icons. Depending on how many people get involved, maybe other things as well.

We’re looking for people who’d like to make bases for banners, who could add text to banners, who can make icons, who could make art for said banners and icons, and anything graphics related at all. As always, suggestions and ideas are welcome!

Secret Santa gifts are due December 20th and will be posted 24th – 7th January, so the timeline we’re looking is having the gift banners ready for the 24th, and the rest by either the 24th or as a thing at the end of the exchange.

Leave a comment if you’d like to get involved. The more the merrier!
