Yes, our promptathons roll around again, as (semi) reliably as birds migrating.

So, once again it's the time for the Most Romantic Mini Promptathon Of All.

Prompts: All things Valentine's Day or love (romantic or otherwise!) related. Friendship? UST? Developing romantic feelings? AlphaFlyer: My first ever true writing collaboration! There is nothing quite like staring at an open Google Doc, wondering what you should write next, and watching words appear before your very eyes. Good words. The best words! inkvoices: also my first writing collaboration! Good times, much fun :) And I got to write mission!fic with a master.
No real cows were harmed in the making of this fic, although we can't say the same of the Brooklyn mafia. The views on protesters, capitalism and politics enunciated herein are strictly those of the characters.

Nothing ... nothing is wrong with it, I adore it too, and yes DB Sweeney is cute. But it's still ridiculous in the best 80s way! (Except it actually dates to 1992 but, eh.)

The first time Natasha notices that things at SHIELD are, well, downright weird is when a young agent stops her on the way to sparring, eagerly hustling into her path.

“Are you really going to work with him?” the girl asks breathlessly, her eyes wide. “With Barton?”

Apparently word had traveled fast, and Natasha’s not surprised. It seemed like nothing was really much of a secret when it came to SHIELD, despite the fact that the organization itself was built on lies and crypticness.

“That’s the story,” Natasha replies, her voice dull. She almost wishes for the days when people were too scared to approach her in the halls. It hadn’t even been that long ago, but over time, she had started to blend in so much that even if she knew she still had hard edges, no one else seemed to see them.

“Oh my god,” the younger agent says, sighing longingly as if Natasha has told her she’s meeting a movie star. “You’re so lucky.”

“Am I?” Natasha can see the door handle to the gym and suddenly, she really wants to punch the living daylights out of something.

“Are you kidding?” The girl’s mouth falls open. “God, I would kill to be partnered with Clint Barton. I mean, to work with someone that good looking all the time? Just his arms --”

Natasha cuts her off by reaching forward, pulling open the door and flashing a strained smile at the girl. “I’ll keep that in mind when I’m dismantling a bomb that could kill me,” she says, abruptly pushing past her and slamming the door. She breathes out slowly in the quiet of the gym, relieved to be alone, and then her lips curve into a small smile. She may not be the person people ran away from in the halls anymore, but she could definitely still be the bitch of SHIELD if she wanted to.

“Everything okay?”

Natasha looks up and meets Clint’s eyes across the room. He’s wearing a tight t-shirt that’s definitely two sizes too small, his muscles bulging around the tight seams, and gym shorts that show off his tanned, scarred legs.

“Yeah. Just got ambushed on the way here. Seems like you’ve got an admirer.”

I only ever read the first Dresden book - you're making me want to go back lol.

One can never have enough Harry Dresden. This is one of my personal laws.
Or Jim Butcher in general, really - not sure whether I want the next Dresden book or the next Aeronaut's windlass book more.

What, Stephanie Plum? You've never heard of her? Series of books by Janet Evanovich (the first one became a movie with Katherine Heigl. Objectively, it really wasn't bad). They all have number titles, so it's easy to tell where you are in the series. Stephanie always has crap cars because she's always semi-broke; it's now an official running gag that she never has the same car at the end of a book that she does at the beginning, because they keeping getting destroyed. One of my personal faves is the first car her pal Ranger (half Cuban, half black, 150% badass) loans her - a Porsche that crashes into a garbage truck and then the bomb goes off. Also the truck that gets taken out by a bazooka.
The books have gotten a bit formulaic since the mid-teens or so, I think, but they're still good screwball comedy. Start with One for the Money

I totally agree on the Stephanie Plum series -- fun, screwball, easy reading comedies. I need to catch up on the last couple of them.

My favorite scenes involve her taking Bob over to Joyce's house to do his business. And the time Bob got dog-napped and orchestrated his own rescue by getting sick in the car -- I had to put the book down I was laughing so hard.

Well, this isn't a new fill - but I did write a "interesting use of chopsticks in Asia" story for last year's promptathon (except it was Clint, not Natasha. It's called "Roses are Red, Widows are Black (http://archiveofourown.org/works/1492090/chapters/7360922)". :-)
