Valentine's Day Mini Promptathon 2017

Yes, our promptathons roll around again, as (semi) reliably as birds migrating.

So, once again it's the time for the Most Romantic Mini Promptathon Of All.

Or platonic. Or full of badassary. Doesn't have to be romantic. Your choice. We welcome ALL!

Timeline
Now (Tuesday, February 7th - February 14th midnight eastern: Prompt! Prompt ALL THE THINGS!
February 14th to February 21st (midnight eastern): Fill those prompts like you've never filled prompts before!

Theme
Prompts: All things Valentine's Day or love (romantic or otherwise!) related. Friendship? UST? Developing romantic feelings? Badass mission that just so happens to involve obnoxious heart-shaped candies? Excessive consumption of pink cupcakes? Living down by that rivier in Egypt or AoU-compliant? Alternate universes featuring singing elephants dressed as cupids? Post-Civil War reconciliation? All are welcome here!

Prompting
Prompts go in the comments to this post. List each prompt as its own separate comment.

Fills
Fills: Post your fill, or a link to your fill - be it fic, art, a video of you preforming an interpretive dance, etc - as a reply to the prompt comment. Please don't post your fanwork separately to the comm, otherwise b_c might explode from the squee. We'll also create a masterlist post updated as fills come in, so rest assured that everyone will see your work!

Please include title, rating, and appropriate warnings in the subject line of your fill.

Prompts may have multiple fills, please give love to your fellow creators!

FILLS CLOSED. Thanks to everyone who participated and made this promptathon so great!

I love it! Especially that they pass two stops silently and: It's bizarre, knowing that she has been so many other people for other people, but she can't answer him for herself. You have some lovely phrasing in this. And it'd perfect reading it on the train into work this morning :D

(PS - mod note, sorry - Can we have a title and a rating when you have a minute please? You might not be able to edit the original comment because i've replied to it, but just let us know so we can add it to the masterlist. Thank you!) Mod note for masterlist - title info: S Bahn 27 G, no warnings.

HAPPY HAPPY SIGH. This is just absolutely lovely and I like the might've could've beens.

[identity profile] crazy4orcas.livejournal.com 2017-02-16 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooohhhh, I'm loving this!

Especially these two lines:

They've had a number of close encounters across Europe but this is the first time they've been face to face instead of a smudge of shadow in a scope or a blur of movement out the corner of the eye.

It's bizarre, knowing that she has been so many other people for other people, but she can't answer him for herself.

Teacher's Pet - PG

[identity profile] kiss-me-cassie.livejournal.com 2017-02-17 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
lease note that this is the mish-moshiest of all Marvel universes. And silliness. Also, there's only a little bit of Clint/Nat. Consider yourself warned.

----

Phil came striding out of his office and almost ran directly into one of his best teachers.

"Melinda, I'm glad you're here. I have a thing I need to talk to you about."

"If it's about the cheerleaders newest fundraising scheme, I've already talked to Cassie and Kamala about it. They're willing to tone down the politicizing a little bit."

Phil shot her a confused look. What was going on with the cheerleaders? On the other hand, the less he knew about whatever was going on, the better. Plausible deniability and all that.

He shook his head.

"No. I wanted to talk to you about Barton."

"Oh?"

"Listen, I know he's been having a hard time of it lately, what with breaking up with Bobbi, but we can't have him fighting with our new languages teacher. We need a languages expert too much. Can you talk to him?"

"I can try, but you should probably know that Barton's recent irritability isn't because of Bobbi," Melinda said.

"It's not?"

She shook her head.

"He got a dog."

"A dog?" Coulson repeated. "I don't understand. Did the dog somehow steal all his coffee?"

The smallest of smiles appeared on Melinda's face.

"Apparently the mutt is as poorly trained as Barton himself. He said he's been keeping him up all night. Hence, not a lot of sleep, not enough coffee, yada yada...."

Coulson sighed. "Ok. Got it. Get to class. I'll talk to Barton myself this afternoon about our languages teacher. But Melinda?"

"Yes?"

"If there's anything -- and I do mean anything -- you can do to put in a good word about Ms. Romanoff with him? I'd really appreciate it."

Melinda nodded.

(This turned out much longer - for me! - than anticipated at about 2500 words, so the rest is over on Ao3 (http://archiveofourown.org/works/9795446))

(And hey, this gets double-duty because it fulfills one of my six sexy words prompts too. ;))

The first time she finds a scrap of paper with a few lines of poetry tucked into her go bag, she shrugs it off. Clint's always reading this book or that. He probably tucked it into the bag thinking it was his own.

The second time she finds one, she's intrigued. Clint's not that careless.

The third time, she's touched that he's chosen to share this part of himself with her. The note joins the tiny collection tucked into a thick tome of Russian Literature on her bookshelf.

It happens sporadically over the next month or so.

Then the notes stop.

She doesn't doesn't ask him about them and she doesn't think about them too much either; their lives are too busy for that much self-reflection and staying alive takes priority on most days. But on those rare occasions when they're not off saving the world, she'll sometimes take the notes out and re-read them.

Then, one day, the notes start to reappear. Not always in her go bag this time, but in her locker, on her pillow, in her briefing notebook. One time she even finds one tucked into her canister of tea.

The tone of the notes changes as well. Whereas the first ones were simple observations about nature or friendship, these new ones take on a decidedly deeper meaning.

She likes to think maybe they reflect the change in their friendship as well.

Soon, she's receiving new notes almost on a daily basis.

Then the tone of them changes once again. The new notes are sexy, sensuous, almost too wicked for words.

She finds herself all too often distracted during briefings, imagining his hands and lips on her body. His writing makes her wet and she spends several sleepless nights, twisted in her sheets, pleasuring herself as she thinks about his words.

She can't take it any longer. She needs to do something, anything, about this restless need.

She struggles for days, fuming as the words refuse to form, as page after page of notepaper lands in the trash.

Finally, she admits defeat, and the note she writes isn't poetry at all, just a few jumbled words telling him what he means to her.

She arrives at his apartment, note in hand, prepared to tell him. When he answers the door, rumpled and unshaven and looking more delectable then ever, she launches herself at him, kissing him with all the pent up passion of the past few months.

Her note flutters to the ground, unnoticed.

She is a woman of action after all.

The Path (PG; distressed Clint)

Author Note: The monastry featured is not actually in Tibet, it's in Bhutan. It's called the Taktshang Tiger's Nest monastry, which 'clings to a cliff 2,300ft about the Paro Valley floor', which seemed appropriate :) The Internet tells me the quotes are Budhist quotes; forgive me if they're not.

Clint Barton, in all his messed up glory, joined a monastry in Tibet when he was twenty.
Taught love for all beings, he would make a different call.

Gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous!

I love your photo selections and the changes in font.

And is that a hint at possible future children for Clint and Natasha, or more a reflection of their inner-children finding each other? Or is it up for interpretation?

Sleeping Arrangements - PG - No warnings

Natasha came out of the small cabin and gave Clint a quick rundown.

"There are limited MREs but the radio is busted," she reported. "And there's only one bed."

He pushed past her into the small space to see for himself.

"What the fuck do you mean there's only one bed? Are we in some crazy romcom and someone forgot to tell us?"

"It's not the end of the world, Barton," she grumbled, rolling her eyes at him. "We could be dead. Or bleeding out. It's just a bed. Deal with it."

He lowered himself onto the sagging mattress and groaned. "Its not even a good bed."

"It's better than the floor," she said, unholstering her guns and slipping her bites from her wrists before lying down next to him. "Shut up and get some sleep. Tomorrow morning we'll figure out how to contact someone for extraction."

When she was settled, he pushed himself up on an elbow and looked over at her in the dim light.

"If I have to share a bed with you, do I get a goodnight kiss?"

She cursed under her breath at him in Russian.

"Be lucky I don't give you a black widow's kiss," she replied, her voice dripping with menace. "Good night, Barton."

"Night," he mumbled, lowering himself back down onto his side of the bed. He was careful not to touch her, lest she keep her promise.

It was going to be a long night.

I have started this fic, like, nine times in the past few months, but I always end up nowhere once Natasha stands in the shadows and watches Clint vaulting (without a shirt on) because he's frustrated and just wants something familiar to do. She didn't even know he knew how, thought he wasn't exactly telling the truth about the whole circus thing.

And then I stare at a blinking cursor.

“I don’t know how you can work with him and not just drool over those arms,” remarks the younger agent. She’s been unfortunate enough to be paired with Natasha for sparring, and she’s currently trapped in a headlock because she’d stopped to watch Clint wrestle his own trainee to the mat. This was her excuse for being distracted, which Natasha thinks is frankly ridiculous.

“They’re just muscles,” she says, maintaining the hold on the agent’s neck. “Anyone who trains as much as he does would look similar; and anyway, letting yourself get distracted by things like that are what get you killed.” Not that she, you know, endorses the Red Room’s methods or anything, but at least she was trained from an early age not to let anything, especially a man, get between her and her objective. “Let’s go again,” she sighs, releasing the agent. “And don’t look at Barton.”

Half of SHIELD, it seems, has a crush on him, which Natasha chalks up to the fact that nobody else works as closely with him as she does. Is he physically fit? Sure, but so are scores of other agents, she reasons, and they don’t shoot glitter bomb arrows. [[continued on AO3!]]

Thanks!

That silly "i lik the bred" poem got stuck in my head and I figured that would be something Clint would find hilarious. :)
