Question For My Lovelies...

So I noticed the other day that another community did awards, like fanfic awards, and best art awards, and stuff like that. It seemed like a great way to celebrate some of the amazing stuff that's posted on this community. I was just curious if there's something similar here, and if not, was it something people would be interested in?

EDIT: Maybe we could do like an epic bookmark thing instead? Everyone goes through favorite fics till we have like the biggest rec list ever from every category, including art. Then it's not a competition?

I think it could be a lot of fun, but to avoid getting political (which I do see happen in a lot of fandoms), you'd need a clear schedule, a way of nominating and voting that can't be tampered with, and a lot of categories. I mean, sure, there are heavy-hitting awards like "Best fic" and "Best author," but I think it's more fun if there are categories like, "best AU," "most creative Budapest," "best Clint backstory," etc. And having each of the categories be named something different is always fun (The Virginia "Pepper" Potts Award for Best Banter, The Howard Stark Memorial Award for Best Innuendo (Fondue?)), too.

Uuuuh, loving this! The whole having categories that aren't, well "average". And, yes, clear schedule and voting system are an absolute must!

I guess I thought only a few categories would be simpler, but that actually sounds really fun. What would we name the best kidfic category?

gnaaah, suddenly I really want these awards xD I always love scrolling and reading all the fics people nominate *_*

There is a difference, too, between 'de-aged' and 'Nat and Clint have kidlets', even though they are under the same tag.

Mmmmmm true, they could conceivably be in the same category though.

But they are wildly different things, written for wildly different purposes (I write both). They aren't the same category at all. So, tags-based is a good idea, but it doesn't cover things. Same with canon!AUs of 'what if' and 'the one where they are running around on Mars' - both AUs, but both very different in concept and story-intent.

Exactly.

I'd vote for "Mikey" to be included in any kidfic category name, as I have an obsession with Life cereals and commercials from the 80s. :)

I don't know what that means, so I'm just going to smile and wave. :P

It looks like we won't be doing awards, so maybe when you're hosting a Friday? I would love a Virginia "Pepper" Potts Snarky Banter themed Friday post.

[identity profile] frea-o.livejournal.com 2013-01-13 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
ahahaahaha, I'd be too worried about offending people on the community with my sense of humor to host a Friday, sorry.

[identity profile] hufflepuffsneak.livejournal.com 2013-01-13 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
We have to finagle someone into it then. Maybe with a Maria Hill add-on.

[identity profile] frea-o.livejournal.com 2013-01-13 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
All the Banter Friday would be awesome, but I would seriously need a co-host because no way, not posting here alone unless it's to say I've got a story up. And even then, I'm liking that there's an "Author chooses not to use warnings" tag.

[identity profile] hufflepuffsneak.livejournal.com 2013-01-13 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
??? You're nervous about posting here? Huh, curating a long Friday would be tiring.

[identity profile] frea-o.livejournal.com 2013-01-13 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm comfortable sticking to comments about generic topics and that's about it. :)

[identity profile] purely-distel.livejournal.com 2013-01-13 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
wouldn't it be easier to just have it as polls? Or have posts with screened comments that can later all be unscreened (how the icon communities do it)?

[identity profile] hiddencait.livejournal.com 2013-01-13 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I definitely think this would be a better system then "best fic" or "best author" at least as far as avoiding the political cliquey nastiness. This way we'd all get to highlight stories that focus on different things done well as opposed to the overall "best" which is so horribly subjective anyway.

If we could keep it this way, I'd totally be happy to see it.

Otherwise though, I'm one who just might be a little leery... especially after the sockpuppet voting that happened in the HetReccers poll a few months back. Most of the bar is awesome, but if we already know that there's a few who might pull that kind of BS to skew votes to their faves.... It just worries me a little!

[identity profile] hiddencait.livejournal.com 2013-01-13 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed. All of these things could be issues if the award rules aren't set up firmly. We can only hope it won't end up dramafied.

[identity profile] purely-distel.livejournal.com 2013-01-13 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Which is, tbh, a good thing about voting via screened comment. Because you could see if people tried to sneak votes for themselves in there ...
