Welcome to one of the most eagerly-anticipated events on the be_compromised calendar! It’s time for THE EPIC SUMMER PROMPTATHON!!!

Just before we get started we do have some info and rules we’d like you to read…

HOW PROMTATHON 2016 WORKS

Step One: leave prompts

Prompts can be anything – simple or elaborate, words or pictures, songs or poems, lyrics or phrases, anything that inspires a fanwork. Use your imagination. Go wild! All we ask is that you place anything NSFW behind a cut or link, use warnings where appropriate, and spoiler-cut anything spoiler-ish.

The focus of prompts should be Natasha and/or Clint, individually or as friends, lovers, spouses, partners, in gen fic, ANYTHNG. That means we do welcome other characters and pairings (and threesomes or moresomes) as long as Clint and/or Natasha is there somewhere. See here for more info, and always feel free to ask a mod if you have any questions – there’s even a handy questions thread at the top of the promptathon below.

Leave as many prompts as you want. We’re serious. Keep coming back. We want as many prompts as we can possibly get. Just make sure each prompt is in a separate comment.

Step two: squee

Been wanting to jump into the fandom but not sure where to start? Now’s the time. Newbie or a lurker? Here’s the perfect opportunity to say hello! Promptathon is a fun, no-pressure environment. If all you want to do is post prompts and share in the squee, you’re more than welcome! And by squee we mean chatting in the chat thread, replying to prompts to chat about prompts, and just lots of excitement all over the place.

Step three: submit fanworks like there’s no tomorrow

The usual Community Rules apply. There’s no length requirement on fanworks submitted. You can write drabbles or epics, vids, art, fanmixes, anything at all; it’s just all about getting creative! You can fill as many prompts as you want, and prompts can be filled multiple times by whoever wants to fill them.

HOW TO POST

1. Respond in a comment to the prompt you are filling. Try and post the entire work in the comment (if it's short enough), or if not, post a link. Do not post works to the comm. We’re all about one-stop shopping, so try and post in the main promptathon post if the length allows. If it is too long to post in the promptathon post, consider posting the first section as a teaser and then a link (because that's always fun too.)

2. Label your submission in the subject line with FILL, the type of fanwork, your title, and any warnings. Example: FILL fic: 5 Times Clint and Natasha Were Awesome (PG) When filling in the subject line, you may need to view the comm in it's original style (if you don't already). Just make sure you can see a subject line when responding with your submission.

3. Be sure to leave ratings and warnings (if any) in the subject line. (See example above.) Help us out and make sure folks know what they're clicking on. Thoughtfulness = LOVE. If the ratings or the warnings won't fit in the subject line, just leave them at the top of your post. If you don't want to include warnings, please put 'I choose not to warn' in the subject line, or again at the top of the post if it doesn't fit.

4. Please put anything NSFW under a cut or link. Put any spoilers under a cut or link with an appropriate warning.

TIMELINE

TODAY: Prompting starts!
SUNDAY 7th AUGUST: wait for it, wait for it, look out for the announcement and the masterlist/fills post… FILLS ARE OPEN
SUNDAY 14th AUGUST: Prompts close (yes, prompts and fills will overlap for a bit) PROMPTS ARE CLOSED
SUNDAY 4th SEPTEMBER: Promptathon ends - alas, promptathon is now over for another year.

Steve strode ahead, past the unconscious bodies lining the Raft, his shield up defensively as they headed out. He and Natasha had been fairly systematic as they made their way through the Raft to the holding cells, but it never hurt to be cautious.

He glanced behind him, taking a quick head count. Wanda was concentrating on some point ahead of him as she marched forward with Sam at her side. The other guy was just behind Sam, a dazed look on his face. And bringing up the rear was Clint, who kept shooting questioning glances at Natasha.

"Barton."

"Yeah?" he answered, his eyes still on Nat.

"Nat says you should fly?"

He nodded, and as soon as they reached the sleek, black plane on the surface of the Raft, he slid into the pilot's seat, Natasha sinking smoothly into the co-pilot seat beside him.

"Just like old times," she said with a small hint of a smile.

He didn't smile back. He concentrated on getting them out of the Raft's airspace and on their way to Wakanda. Once they were at a safe distance with no sign of pursuit, he turned to her, an odd look on his face.

"Last week, we were on opposite sides, fighting for real. This week you're helping Rogers stage a prison break. Why?" he asked, his voice gruff.

She seemed to shrink into herself briefly, before rallying and facing him squarely, her expression candid and open.

"It was the wrong move, aligning myself with Stark. With Ross," she corrected. "None of us won, all of us lost."

"And?" he probed, the hurt he was feeling coming to the surface.

"Staying together is still more important than how we stay together. It's especially important that we stay together," she emphasized, reaching out to take his hand.

He glanced down at her small hand a moment, the half-glove of her uniform covering her palm, her infamous bite ringing her wrist. He contemplated all that those hands had done over the years, from murder to reaching out to him in a cold, back alley in Belgrade and more.

"Clint?"

Her soft voice broke into his reverie, and he looked into her fathomless eyes and grasped the hand she offered, linking their fingers together.

He nodded and allowed a small smile to emerge. "Yeah, we'll stay together."

A/N: I'm not sure this is what you had in mind but I do hope it works for you.

She's the kind of woman who glows when she wants to. She can turn it on and off like a light switch, lure you in with her soft presence then leave you in the dark, confused and alone. Lost in blackness with no idea how you got there but the ghost of her lips on your skin reminding you that you hadn't been by yourself before now.

He's the kind of man who is drawn to the light, though he's not foolish enough to believe he can capture it. Instead, he gives her the choice, offers her something different than what she's had until that point.

Caution is for other people, people who have things left to lose. She opens herself up to the possibility of gaining a new thing instead, lets her light shine on something beyond the ghostly faces of those who want to take from her instead of give.

It's time to see what the world can offer her, instead of what it can steal.

And when the truce does settle, when she stops running and both of them have lost enough blood, she decides to take his hand. They walk together, injured, tired, and ready to see what happens next.

Because it's a mystery, a dark path before them but not totally. It's lit by fireflies, by the hope of something new, of something different and maybe, just maybe, something better.

They were lounging on Natasha's couch when Clint suddenly sat up, dislodging Natasha from her comfortable spot against him.

"You know what we should do?" he asked, although it was clear by the look on his face that it didn't really matter what she thought. "Make a blanket fort."

"I don't need a blanket fort."

She wasn't entirely sure what one was, although she could guess. But even so, she was fairly sure she didn't need one, not when she had Clint.

"Everyone needs a blanket fort," he declared. At her silence, he added, "You've never made one before, have you?"

She raised a brow at that. Of course she hadn't; she hadn't had a regular childhood. He hadn't either, but at least some aspects of his had been normal.

"No, of course not," Clint sighed.

"I assume it's a fort, made of blankets?"

"Yeah. Pillows, blankets, whatever you have on hand," he confirmed, running a hand through his hair. "When we were kids, Barney and I would build them all the time. Guess we thought they'd be enough to hide us from our dad. And then later, it was a good way to escape from the older, meaner foster kids."

He looked so adorable, standing there in his ratty t-shirt and socks, that she couldn't help smiling. If Clint wanted a blanket fort, they were going to build a blanket fort. "So if one were to agree to making a fort, how would one go about doing so?"
