Bring your squee, meta, pics, all the things! As always, please note: UNTIL OTHERWISE STATED (AFTER THE MOVIE HAS BEEN RELEASED WORLDWIDE) THIS IS THE ONLY PLACE WHERE THIS FILM CAN BE DISCUSSED ON BE_COMPROMISED. You know the drill, spoilers are not fun.

A few rules:

1) Do understand that this post will be FULL of spoilers in the comments to this post. If you are absolutely against being spoiled then please avoid this post until you've seen the film. It's okay, you can post here whenever you watch the film and keep it active, so you won't be missing out. There is no end date to the squee.

2) Character bashing and ship wars are assassinable offences. We love differences in opinion and discussing all the things, but we also want to keep this bar a positive fandom space. If you think someone might be hurt by something you're about to say then either don't say it or find a better way of putting it. Please keep in mind that we are about the love.

3) Yes, even if we're all on edge wondering what the hell is going to happen to Nat, and where Clint is, and oh god is anyone going to die and Icannotcopewiththis - Ahem. Deep breaths and play nice :)

OKAY. So I saw it twice and then had the weekend to muse on it, so some specifically Clint and Nat thoughts:

The answer to ‘where is Clint?’ being apparently ‘not in this film’ amused me actually. And also made me feel a bit...safe? That he wouldn't be messed with in this film, although who knows with that ending! Hopefully he’ll get decent screen time in Avengers 4. I mean, there's not a lot of people left alive so there's space…! Also my cinema buddy suggested maybe A4 will pull back to/or focus on the original 5 MCU Avengers since they're all still around. And I expect a GREAT DEAL of fanfic about where Clint has been and what he’s been up to, just sayin’ ;)

Nat gets some good moments. As much as I didn't like how they handled the Bruce/Nat ‘monster’ scene in AOU and never delivered on the Clint/Nat tone of Avengers, I like that they did acknowledge the AOU Bruce/Nat and didn't just sweep it under the carpet, even with everything else going on. Especially since the ending of AOU and Bruce being Hulk for so long is tied, to me at least, with Hulk feeling angry at Nat and wanting to protect Bruce from her.

(Essentially: she says she care for Bruce and then shoves him off a cliff because ‘she needs the other guy’ more. Because Nat’s character arc in AOU is deciding to be a hero and she thinks out of Bruce and Hulk,Hulk is the hero. Ouch. Although in IW Bruce is the one who does everything…)

Sam’s ‘this is awkward’ is PERFECT :)

Love her being protective of Wanda, the way Cap tosses that spear to her in Edinburgh, her fight scenes… Especially with Okoye and that girl power moment, that Wanda is ‘not alone’ and the three of them fight the female baddie. Also the ‘gross’ lol.

I am also amused that of the Avengers on the run following Civil War Cap has just ripped off his star and grown a beard, Sam’s gear is scuffed up but he's made no attempt to change himself, and Nat is there with a different outfit and blood hair and has made an effort. Boys, you're doing it wrong.

Although Clint and Scott are so undercover that everyone believes they're under house arrest, so… But I bet it’s just that nobody recognises Scott ;)

Well, I thought the Bruce/Nat thing was, yes, awkward. Even here. Like, as if the Russos knew they'd been handed a turd (sorry, figure of speech) and tried to dispose of it as painlessly as possible but briefly dropped it on someone's shoe. *cough*

It would have weird/non-consistent storytelling if there hadn't been a mention though, and they didn't dwell on it any more or less than other (personal) relationships so I'll take it. (I wouldn't, and am not, opposed to any particular ships but the writing of this one in AOU was clunky and just...not good, meh. It had the hammer scene though! And other good things. So I've mostly forgiven it *grins*)

I loved Sam of everybody lampshading it with "Awkward," because that was so Sam, and it WAS so awkward.

It sounded like from what ScarJo said there's a deleted BruceNat scene that'll probably be on the DVD extras, happy happy joy joy.

Sam has some of the best lines *grins*. "You couldn't have done that earlier?" "So, do you like cats?" <3

I am here for any and all extras! I kind of want a really awkward scene in Wakanda where Bruce is trying to get into the Hulkbuster armour and Nat is helping or something, or just choses that time to chat, and references to Ragnarok events and just AWKWARD HILARITY. (Nat talks to Clint about it on the phone or maybe ages later after the dust settles and is just BOYS, NO, WHY and Clint just hands her Nate or something.)

SAM IS THE BEST SAM. I really want him to be Cap if they're going to kill Steve (NOOO) and have Bucky wolfing it up in Wakanda or whatever. I was so heartbroken he got dusted.

Poor ScarJo, I think she was getting divorced? at around that time too, that had to have really sucked.

I think it was kind of clever really that they dusted both Sam and Bucky but left Steve standing when people were debating which would be the new Captain America if Steve died, because of contracts and stuff people were wondering if Steve or Tony (or both) would kick it. Well played.

Nat’s character arc in AOU is deciding to be a hero

YOU ARE A HERO NAT *SOB* //so overinvested -- I hated AoU but I still love that exchange between Steve and Nat with "There's worse ways to go. Where else am I gonna get a view like this?" NAT! <33 //so overinvested

I loved that, I thought it was one of the few totally IC lines Cap's crew got, as well as being a rueful lampshade. (Rueshade?)

HEADCANON ACCEPTED. Clint is not ever retired, I refuse to believe it. He's on standby in his sleep.

-- If it's true we're going to revisit the original Avengers movie some with the original A6, maybe Clint will get to have AN ACTUAL PART, rather than just being glowsticked for over half the movie. It would be nice if they kept Renner on as a kind of mentor to the younger team(s), but I don't want to count on it.

YES that moment in AOU. I LOVE that character development from the moment in Winter Solider where she says being 'not all things to all people' is 'a good way not to die' to when she tells Cap 'there are worse ways to go' because she's chosen who she is now, what she's willing to die for. HERO.

I imagine the gap - two years minus Raft time - of Cap, Sam, and Nat running around the world being vigilantes, often with Wanda and maybe joining up with other people at various times but mostly just them three on the run, was FULL OF SASS.

I bet Clint's been off doing something for Fury, or SHIELD and Coulson, or helping Inhumans, or doing SOMETHING because no way does that guy ever not help out when he can. He has an overdeveloped 'do the right thing' thing going on. So yeah, Clint disguised as Ronin running around and Scott's like 'I can be in disguise too!' but just, no, Scott, no one ever knows who you are *grins*.

Well, there's space in A4 for Clint to have a part considering how many other characters...aren't there... ;)

I love that she has it with Steve, too, like you said it's such a big step from the scene in TWS. And I love her hugging Steve in CW, too, and being the one to let them go at the dumb airport. BROTP (I also ship them, and them and Sam, and them and Sam and Bucky, I'm like that old Margaret Cho joke, "I'm just slutty"). (But in the world of the movies, where women are so often dependent on romance for character growth -- SEE POOR WANDA -- it's great to see Nat and Steve as BFFs.)

I thiiink Wanda is wearing Nat's jacket from AoU at the very start of CW, at least I headcanon it, anyway.

Clint is like INCAPABLE of just sitting it out, yeah. He brings in Nat! He brings in Wanda! One fic I saw had Laura as a vet or something and he kept bringing in strays, heh. For me Clint and Nat parallel Steve and Bucky a lot -- but they all wind up doing good.

There was a gifset on Tumblr someone did where the dustees were in black-and-white in various photos and I was just like, THANKS FOR THE STAB RIGHT THROUGH THE VENTRICLES THERE. I hope that doesn't go on for long. No fucking timeskip, MCU!
