Discussion Post: Avengers Infinity War

Bring your squee, meta, pics, all the things! As always, please note: UNTIL OTHERWISE STATED (AFTER THE MOVIE HAS BEEN RELEASED WORLDWIDE) THIS IS THE ONLY PLACE WHERE THIS FILM CAN BE DISCUSSED ON BE_COMPROMISED. You know the drill, spoilers are not fun.

A few rules:

1) Do understand that this post will be FULL of spoilers in the comments to this post. If you are absolutely against being spoiled then please avoid this post until you've seen the film. It's okay, you can post here whenever you watch the film and keep it active, so you won't be missing out. There is no end date to the squee.

2) Character bashing and ship wars are assassinable offences. We love differences in opinion and discussing all the things, but we also want to keep this bar a positive fandom space. If you think someone might be hurt by something you're about to say then either don't say it or find a better way of putting it. Please keep in mind that we are about the love.

3) Yes, even if we're all on edge wondering what the hell is going to happen to Nat, and where Clint is, and oh god is anyone going to die and Icannotcopewiththis - Ahem. Deep breaths and play nice :)

Well, I guess I'll just have to torture myself and go see the movie again. :)

Seriously though, I will probably end up seeing it again. Buddies of mine avoid opening weekend like the plague but do want to see it.

I think unfortunately she doesn't call Clint, though - I had been mulling over this since I saw the Vanity Fair article that said the same thing, because I hadn't heard it as clear when I watched it...though I had only seen it twice at that point and the first time was like an onslaught of feelings and the second time was wrapping my head around everything, so I definitely accounted for the fact that I might have missed it.

But last night I saw it again and I'm pretty sure she definitely says Klein (if you listen for it you can hear how it differs from "Clint") and spectralarchers confirmed with her post where she saw subtitles: http://spectralarchers.tumblr.com/post/173481099317

I think it totally still works to use the headcanon for fic and other things, though. I'm definitely still going to, at least! If we heard it wrong, chances are most people did too ;)

Humpf. I've seen it only once (RL is a b****) and Clint made sense to me - especially after reading that article. I think I'll stick with it - maybe Fury told her to call Klein (which doesn't make a lot of sense as his name has never been mentioned in the MCU that I know of). But Maria wouldn't necessarily follow that request, would she...? :P

I can't remember if his name was mentioned before or not (I think it was but I don't have the time right now to seek out where and when) but I agree with you - Maria would DEFINITELY call Clint instead...

Or maybe she's like us and heard Clint :) I mean, they were kind of rudely interrupted.

Then again, maybe Klein now runs the un-mothballed helicarrier and that's why Fury wanted him called?

Also, maybe he said Klein but Maria just misdialled. In my story, she calls Clint. So there... :P

Well, on re-seeing it I think I was wrong... :( I went with something I read on tumblr plus selective memory. Fury did tell her to call Klein. But ... eh. She WOULD call Clint, right? RIGHT??? :P

I'll honestly be surprised if there aren't some cut scenes of NAT maybe calling Clint, or maybe that'll be in part 2. And Clint and Scott are totally both cast in the moulds of "one more big job and I'm out," so I was headcanoning the deal as "retired, unless it's an emergency."

I also hope that Clint's family being smoked is not why he goes Ronin, because while I OTP Clintasha, I got kind of overinvested in Laura/Nat. //facepalm Nat calls Clint, and he and Laura streak in to help because they are BOTH EX-AGENTS! ....no, probably not. sigh.

I love all the fandom variations of Laura, but especially Laura who is/was also an Agent :)

I love Laura too! (I blame Linda Cardinelli) I wasn't so jazzed about the idea of Clint having a FARM, but came up with some headcanon about it being the place he grew up in IA or wherever, and then other people had neat fics like Laura being in SHIELD, and Nat/Laura, and Clint bringing Nat home to Laura too when she came in out of the cold, and they were great.

I hope the family isn't going to get dusted in A4, but between the comics, Clint looking like Ronin, and Clint apparently having a big role, it looks like it. I'm just terrified he'll die to bring his family back. If they want to keep MCU Clint (and Laura and Nat) in semi-retirement as a kind of father figure to the younger Avengers, fine, but I'm also kinda terrified ALL of them will get killed off. Not all six, right??

I'd figured Clint might be Ronin to be in disguise, to protect his family if he's not meant to be an Avengers anymore because of the Accords, and then maybe because some of his family got dusted, BUT WHAT IS THIS MADNESS THAT WOULD MAKE SENSE NO I DON'T LIKE IT :p

I don't know, I was having a chat with a few people about this and I think they could just take the MCU in a different direction by telling other stories, or jumping ahead in time to the Young Avengers or something - but it would be hard to do without acknowledging what came before because they've built this world up so much.

WELL ME EITHER but sadly his family dying is why he goes Ronin in the comics. Actually it's worse in the comics (in Ultimates, which is like an offshoot but also where a lot of MCU comes from), NAT kills them. Which at least will not happen. I would be surprised if they didn't do that, both because there's more for the character at stake that way, and otherwise he has to choose between protecting his family/helping out and that would suck.

Yeah, people are coming up with all kinds of things -- them going back in time to A1, them preventing Thanos from getting the stones, alternate universes, quantum realm, what have you. I think probably what might happen is Tony's going to build his own Gauntlet (what else did we see that giant mould for), and get everything back to where it was pre-snap and he and/or Steve and/or Thor will die taking down Thanos. I don't think they'll kill off Nat or Clint. Then again I have been thinking they would kill off Tony and/or Steve since CW and been wrong every time, LOL.
