She looked out over the horizon, speaking softly.
"It only hurts when I cut them off."
"And how many times have you done that for me?" He asked with a hint of anger.
"Less than the amount of feathers you've lost for me." She answered in the same tone, shifting to face him.
They locked eyes.
"I will slaughter them for what they did to you."
"I won't let you."
"Give me a reason." He wrapped his other wing around her.
"Because if they didn't, you wouldn't be alive with me now."
It was true, she saved him in Budapest using the bones severed from her own body.
She was two rooftops over, unable to reach him in time.
Slicing off the claws from one hand with the other, she threw and lodged the steel-penetrating bones into the skulls of four demons determined to rip off his wings.
"They can't be allowed to get away with it."
Reaching up she framed his face with both hands.
"I won't allow you to lose another feather for me. Or your life."
He would tear every feather from his body if it meant keeping her alive.
"You are not their weapon."
"No," she whispered, nestling against him, "I am yours."
