**cue impromptu dance party**

We have 500 people watching this comm.

Let me say it again: We have 500 people watching this comm. And 442 members.

On May 6, 2012, when this bar was opened, we had 4 (and yes, those four consisted of your beloved mods who saw a little film called Avengers and had some feelings and just wanted a place to find some fic and geek out.)

So, in honor of this momentous occasion, I hereby declare it to be Friday one day early. Bring me your squee, your flail, your randomness, your Renner Problems, your Scarlett Feelings, your team!shawarma love, your pics, your gifs, your thinky thoughts, your what-the-heck-ever you like. Today is a day of jubilee, my friends.

Heh I must admit I didn't see everything she was in, but the stuff I did see - she was good in it. She started very young, and I think all of us are bound to make mistakes when we're young, only the mistakes of ordinary people usually don't end up making the headlines. Media can be cruel. It's a good thing that wisdom comes with age, or at least it should (some people never wise up) :)

Oh yes, sparky! I know about Joe and Torri! They did a panel together last year too and it was cute and awesome. I can't wait for new reports. :) Did it happen already? Most of my internet time is spent here, I am pretty out of touch with anything else.

More harry Potter fans is ALWAYS AWESOME. Because the bottom line is, we all like the story, right? I'm sorry your shipping experience wasn't pleasent; I mostly lurk around HP waters and sometimes delurk and post fic (I've written several). I suppose my ship *points to icon* is more popular, IDK, I am not an active part of the fandom, but I had the, err, pleasure, to have entitled canonist people tell me something is wrong with my brain... I just channel my inner Draco at them. My point is, ship what you enjoy and let other people do the same. People who can't deal with that need to get a life.

*hugs*

Also, gif that's semirelevant for this comment - I'm waiting for an excuse to use it!

yeah, much like emma watson, i have forgiven her some of those snotty nosed kid ways of being a petulant teenager. media is harsh and very apathetic especially on women in the public eye. this whole nekkid prince harry photo 'scandal' being a prime example in comparison to if a princess was caught. the double standard is disgusting and if you're not upset, you're not paying attention. majority sees no problem with this therefore, i see a problem with the majority.

that panel in france? it was beautiful. and i think dragoncon is the first weekend of september. so, soon. HEE.

oh, right? high horsed fans are really the opposite of the whole point of potter. like, did you even READ the same books as me? i totally get the appeal of d/h tho. i've read a few fics, probably your's now that i think of it... and enjoyed them. yay! multi-shipping!

Oh, I was a petulant teenager - thank God not many people were around to see it! That's how I think about these things. Few days ago I wrote about this stuff, I was inspired by Kirsten Stewart witch hunt. But bottom line is, I think the society as a whole has kissed kindness good bye and enjoys all sorts of dirty laundry and someone's bad days way too much. It's a pitiful way to distract ourselves from our own problems (which is why I just don't like celebrity gossip. Besides, I am forced to deal with other people's problems at work. So, as far as I'm concerned everything filled with gossip and paparazzi pictures could burn, I wouldn't bat an eye.) In regards to biased standards - I earned my degree in psychology by doing a research on sexism. It's a well known topic for me (and we can discuss it any time you like), and sadly, the majority really is a problem.

The whole point of HP, or one of them, is accepting differences. Even when you don't like them, or expect the worst, or things like that. So, no, I somehow have the problem believing those peeps read the same series of books.

Oooooo! I have one at my AO3 (http://archiveofourown.org/users/Anuna/works), and I am very proud of that one.

you don't realise that privacy is a privilege until you witness/experience the lack of it. the unforunate by-product of celebrity culture is the frequent raking over the coals in regards to personal details. it digusts me. sure, be curious, speculate but give them the dignity of being a citizen of humanity and let them be when it comes down to brass tacks. reasons i don't support or use pics taken in an unofficial capacity/setting. paparazzi/gossip shit stokes my ire and they deserve all the vitriol directed towards them. but especially when it comes to celebrity kids. that's a big no-no in my book. how indecent. the sexual politicking of the kstew situation and really many of those types of situations is not anyone's business 1) you don't have all the facts 2) it's none of your business 3) if you are not the one being wronged, IT'S. NONE. OF. YOUR. BUSINESS. 4) the patriarchy rides high on its male privilege. they're given a pass and that kind of inequality also contributes greatly to the horseshit. raaaaaaaage! SMASH!

yes. exactly. granted there were many flaws textually (blanketing slytherin as ALL BAD, forcing personal mores on others, lack of diverse women narratives, biased and really veiled racism all being widely accepted and not challenged by fandom at large makes me scratch my head. a lot.) so i just stick to my corner, keep my head down and promote the love.

aw, yes! more stuff to reeeeeeeeeeeeead!

Wasn't Scarlett the one who got the legislation against paparazzi started after they caused a car accident with her and then harassed the lady she hit?

you know, probably. but it's not like they'd ever report that. it's not exactly sensational. it's pretty disgusting that they create the drama which endangers lives JUST to get a picture. this is why we can't have nice things.

Exactly. Oh, and I think it was at Disneyland of all places.

Still, there are some pretty stiff penalties now from what I understand.

Edited to add...I know, I de-lurk for the most ridiculous discussions, but I've been cracking up at everyone's shenanigans for the last few days. I adore you all!

yeah, wow, that was a while ago too. about three years ago the governator of california signed a bill that allows the legal action against obtaining of photos and recordings in an illegal fashion (i think johannson was part of that and probably, a catalyst). there are only a small number of states in the US that have things of the sort in place. yet, the prevailing 'interest' of hungry masses who, imo are just being brainwashed by media outlets, condone the abhorrent behaviour or sit idly by and consume them through various ways. those awful 'entertainment news' programmes, tmz, inside outside access of tofurkey... you know, i don't give a shit what they had for lunch on thursday with whoever it was they sat at a table with. for me the bottom line is: do you entertain me and do i like it when you do? if the answer is yes then it should stay in that arena. just be pretty and intriguing on my screen. that's all i need from you.

<http://www.paparazzi-reform.org/>paparazzi-reform.org has an interesting approach but i'm sure there are other organisations out there advocating for the privacy of human beings who just so happen to have a job everyone knows about.
