Question For My Lovelies...

So I noticed the other day that another community did awards, like fanfic awards, and best art awards, and stuff like that. It seemed like a great way to celebrate some of the amazing stuff that's posted on this community. I was just curious if there's something similar here, and if not, was it something people would be interested in?

EDIT: Maybe we could do like an epic bookmark thing instead? Everyone goes through favorite fics till we have like the biggest rec list ever from every category, including art. Then it's not a competition?

Well, it wasn't so much about the comm missing something, it was just more about the typical "uh, new fandom, how does it work? what is allowed?" type feelings. And as someone who had, at that point, only seen the film and new nothing about the comic-verse, that was what threw me the most. I didn't know where to really start, because the whole comic-verse seems (and is ;)) so vast and limitless, it can be quite intimidating.

And I didn't know how this comm in particular handled it. Like ... is this just movies, just comics? what are is generally ok to mix/use, what isn't? Sort of ... the cultural habits of the comm/ship so to speak ;) Might be just me, but I like to know those types of things first, before I start to really get involved. Speak the lingo of the comm/ship so to speak.

I mean, it became clear quite quickly how it all works, but then I kinda just THREW myself in there, posting a big-ol HELLO post and getting lots of info through that. But for someone that doesn't just shamelessly decide to post in a comm they joined 5 seconds ago ...? Might be helpful if they had like some pointers about those sorts of things?

And about the other links in the sidebar and stuff ... I am horrible when it comes to that. I never see/find them. Don't ask me why *shakes head at self* I need a sort of big neon sign saying READ THIS BLOODY POST WOMAN, IT HAS ANSWERS!

See, I thought that was what you meant, but clarity is awesome :) Us mods are on a learning curve with the comm, so you'll have to forgive us sometimes. If we have a philosophy it's that everything is 'allowed' and that we like people who live outside the cultural box and expand the cultural box, but I guess people have to join in to learn that. We're not used to being this big a comm - our growth spurt, woah - so having a big sign pointing stuff out... we had an intro post and stuff, but long ago in internet time, huh?

What were the most important/relevant/useful things that you learnt from that intro post you did? And/or what things did you wish you'd known before joining or that you wanted to know or didn't want to ask but wanted to know?

Hmm, what about the profile page? Do you look at that? Or sticky posts at the top of journals? (Because those are the big three places to stick a 'look here' sign.)
