Promptathon 2014

The Good Ship C/N Promptathon
of Magic and Joy: Round 3

Break out the confetti canons!!

RULES ON POSTING SUBMISSIONS
(please read before you post! <3)

The Rules. Just follow these three easy steps!

1. Leave a Prompt.
Prompts can be anything--simple or elaborate, words or pictures, songs or poems, lyrics or phrases. Anything that, to you, inspires a C/N fanwork. Use your imagination. Go WILD. All we ask is that you place anything NSFW under a cut or link, use trigger warnings when appropriate, and place anything spoiler-y under a cut with a warning. As this is a Clint/Natasha promptathon, your prompts and fanworks can include other characters, but the central focus must be on Clint and/or Natasha. If you’re posting large images, please be mindful of members with slower Internet connections and place the image under a cut or link.

And leave as many prompts as you want. I’m serious. Keep coming back, y’all. We want all the prompts we can possibly get Also, be sure to leave each prompt as a separate comment.

2. Wait a week.
Keep leaving prompts and plan your fanworks! This is a time for celebration and creating all of the things. Work hard, shippers.

3. Submit C/N fanwork like there is no tomorrow.
All submissions should either be posted here or linked to this post via a comment. We will make an official post about rules in the time leading up to submissions. Please read it before posting, as responsible partying is to be encouraged at all times.

Timeline

Prompting starts today, August 2nd and will remain open until August 9th. Submissions will start on August 16th, and will remain open until August 31st.  It is, in fact, A WHOLE MONTH OF PROMPTATHON.

If you can’t complete your fanwork by August 31st, that’s okay. You’re still welcome to post your fanwork to the community! However, the promptathon masterlist will only include fanworks from August 16-31.

What we hope to accomplish with all this promptathon-iness:

  • A chance to get in the game. Been wanting to jump into the C/N fanwork scene but not sure where to start? Now’s the time. There’s no length requirement on the works submitted, you can focus on drabbles and vidlets and short and sweet projects (or do longer more epic stuff if that strikes your fancy as well).  It’s really entirely up to you. We’re just hoping to provide a fun, no-pressure environment. If all you want to do is post prompts and share in the squee, that’s fine too!

  • Meet new and awesome people. Newbie or lurker? Here is the perfect opportunity to say hello!

  • Ship like you’ve never shipped before.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact the mod team.

Have fun, everyone. Now fly, my pretties, fly!

SUBMISSIONS ARE NOW CLOSED.

Thanks to everyone who participated!

It's rough, and a work in progress (though much/most is at least plotted out), but here it is! (http://cybermathwitch.livejournal.com/192268.html)

Well, 11k is the the submitted ~80% draft, I'm not done yet. It'll probably end up around 14k. Maybe a bit more, maybe a bit less. I'm shit at predicting word counts. But either way, yes, it's indeed save to say it REALLY took root. XD

Fic: These Five Years (no warnings)

[identity profile] sneakronicity.livejournal.com 2014-08-29 01:29 pm (UTC)(link)
For eight years they had been partners. For eight years they worked together and apart; they grew to trust each other, learned each other’s tells, and eventually became a fully functioning team. Of course they still did solo missions when a job required one of their particular skills and not the other’s, but nobody could deny that as a team they were the best. They had an unspoken language that no other pair could match, yet that didn’t mean there were no secrets between them.

Of those eight years, Natasha had been in love with Clint for the last five.

It had happened suddenly, and in the most cliché way possible, and that was what annoyed Natasha the most about the whole thing. Her life was as abnormal as they came, something like this wasn’t supposed to be so ‘Hollywood’, but as Clint had lain in her arms, bleeding out from a bullet wound, she had had to face the prospect of losing him, of having to go back to living a life without him in it. The thought of it made her feel sick, made her rage and forbid him to leave her, and in the end she had managed to keep him alive until the medical crew had arrived. They had saved him, and the relief she had felt was indescribable. Life without him sounded dark, cold, and miserable. She had grown to depend on his very presence, on his smile and how he made her feel accepted and normal and... and how he made her feel, period. She didn’t have a lot of experience with love, but she knew that that was what she felt for him.

While he recovered she thought about it a lot and realised it really hadn’t been so sudden after all. On her first anniversary of being with S.H.I.E.L.D. he had shown up at her door to inform her that they both had the day off and that he was taking her out. They had spent the whole day just playing tourist in New York City. He took her to the biggest tourist traps and museums, they walked through Central Park, and in Times Square he made sure they took a turn on the ferris wheel at Toys ‘R’ Us. Natasha had complained but Clint had ignored every one. By the time they returned to HQ she couldn’t keep the exhausted smile off of her face, and when he promised they would do it all again next year she hadn’t argued, had just given him that enigmatic smile of hers instead and bid him good night.

The next year she had found herself excited for the day. They had gone to the Bronx Zoo, and anywhere else they could squeeze in before the day ended. The third year Clint’s mission ran longer than expected and he didn’t make it back in time. The disappointment Natasha had felt had been nearly overwhelming, and entirely confusing to her. She vowed to not let herself look forward to anything like that again, and didn’t dwell on the matter.

Not a prob. When you make a habit of breaking hearts via fic, you get that sometimes different readers like different stuff. I'd write you fluff, but I'm not sure that I being me could send that prompt anywhere pleasant. Hopeful at the end, sure, but along the way? Probably not.

Glad you've been enjoying the fics though even when I have shied toward heartbreak.

FIC: The Roads Between (M, canon-typical violence)

[personal profile] scribblemyname 2014-08-29 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
SHIELD found Clint on the other end of a bad fight in an Indian wasteland, dousing the wounds from canine claws with holy water. He had pulled his arrows out of the pack's bodies already and laid them out across the earth before him to be cleaned. They glistened with water and blood.

Agent Phil Coulson's eyes widened slightly as he looked down the row, then finally met Clint's bland look.

"It's an old weapon," Coulson finally said, mildly.

Clint shrugged. "Old legends."

He doesn't believe the old myths were all false, or the solutions buried inside of them would not work so well. Clint makes the water the way it's been done for centuries: with dust to curse, with extinguished fire to purify, and with sincere prayers to bless. He pours it on his wounds, he drinks it in place of ordinary water, and he dips his arrows and his wards in its protection.

He's still human, isn't he?

[personal profile] scribblemyname 2014-08-29 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Or 5 Times Natasha Didn't Trust Herself and 1 Time She Trusted Clint

Natasha tells the story so many different ways: Barton chose not to kill me, he made a different call, Clint apparently still had to reach his monthly quota of ticking off Fury.

She never does tell the blunt truth: she took one look at that innocent assassin with too much heart for his own good and thought it would be a waste to let it get him killed. She went with him to save him.

This is such a fun read!!! My favorite part: Did you know Professor Barton is married to Professor Romanoff?”

“No way. She’s like twice as attractive as he is.”

That's actually one thing that hooked me on them in the first place :)
