Promptathon 2014

The Good Ship C/N Promptathon
of Magic and Joy: Round 3

Break out the confetti canons!!

RULES ON POSTING SUBMISSIONS
(please read before you post! <3)

The Rules. Just follow these three easy steps!

1. Leave a Prompt.
Prompts can be anything--simple or elaborate, words or pictures, songs or poems, lyrics or phrases. Anything that, to you, inspires a C/N fanwork. Use your imagination. Go WILD. All we ask is that you place anything NSFW under a cut or link, use trigger warnings when appropriate, and place anything spoiler-y under a cut with a warning. As this is a Clint/Natasha promptathon, your prompts and fanworks can include other characters, but the central focus must be on Clint and/or Natasha. If you’re posting large images, please be mindful of members with slower Internet connections and place the image under a cut or link.

And leave as many prompts as you want. I’m serious. Keep coming back, y’all. We want all the prompts we can possibly get Also, be sure to leave each prompt as a separate comment.

2. Wait a week.
Keep leaving prompts and plan your fanworks! This is a time for celebration and creating all of the things. Work hard, shippers.

3. Submit C/N fanwork like there is no tomorrow.
All submissions should either be posted here or linked to this post via a comment. We will make an official post about rules in the time leading up to submissions. Please read it before posting, as responsible partying is to be encouraged at all times.

Timeline

Prompting starts today, August 2nd and will remain open until August 9th. Submissions will start on August 16th, and will remain open until August 31st.  It is, in fact, A WHOLE MONTH OF PROMPTATHON.

If you can’t complete your fanwork by August 31st, that’s okay. You’re still welcome to post your fanwork to the community! However, the promptathon masterlist will only include fanworks from August 16-31.

What we hope to accomplish with all this promptathon-iness:

  • A chance to get in the game. Been wanting to jump into the C/N fanwork scene but not sure where to start? Now’s the time. There’s no length requirement on the works submitted, you can focus on drabbles and vidlets and short and sweet projects (or do longer more epic stuff if that strikes your fancy as well).  It’s really entirely up to you. We’re just hoping to provide a fun, no-pressure environment. If all you want to do is post prompts and share in the squee, that’s fine too!

  • Meet new and awesome people. Newbie or lurker? Here is the perfect opportunity to say hello!

  • Ship like you’ve never shipped before.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact the mod team.

Have fun, everyone. Now fly, my pretties, fly!

SUBMISSIONS ARE NOW CLOSED.

Thanks to everyone who participated!

Fic: Clint Barton: Human Disaster Rated G, no warnings

“This sucks.”

Natasha heard Clint grouse as she stepped around the privacy curtain. It had been a week since they had been on the retrieval mission and he was still in a mood. “You’re old.”

“Shut up.”

“Explain to me again why you tried to do that?”

“Because I’ve seen you do it a thousand times and you never throw out your back.”

fic: Just one. A few. (Who am I?)

It had been two hours since Clint said he was running to the store to pick up some stuff for dinner and Natasha was starting to get worried. But finally the doorknob began to turn.
“Nat!” Clint shouted as he walked in the door.
“Finally. What took you so long?”
“I was at the store, and I saw something...weird.”
“What do you mean?”
Clint looked at her like there was a million different things he wanted to tell her but couldn’t figure out what to say.
“What’s up Clint? You’re acting like you saw Steve buying a pregnancy test or something.” She sat up, “Did you see Steve buying a pregnancy test?”
“I saw you.”
“What?”
“I was walking down the cereal aisle, and I look over and there you were. But...you weren't you. Obviously.”

Fic: untitled, G, no warnings

“Scamming newlyweds? Who does that?” Clint asked, aghast.

Natasha looked at him fondly. He had seen just as much of the world’s ugliness as she had (albeit over a longer period of time), but he had still managed to retain some measure of idealism.

“Technically they’re not newlyweds. Their weddings don’t actually happen. They show up on the day and there’s nothing there,” Maria pointed out.

“Why is SHIELD handling this?” Natasha asked, allowing her boredom to seep into her voice. “Seems like a job for the FBI, given they’ve crossed state lines.”

Maria flicked the screen in front of them to a picture of one woman. “Kristen Halverson Watson, the head of Fantasy Weddings. Yes, those Halversons. Her grandfather is Attorney General Halverson, so the FBI has courageously kicked the case up to us.”

Natasha groaned. This did not count as a step towards balancing her ledger, not at all. What about the human traffickers, or the depraved scientists she had signed up to destroy? Petty criminals cashing in on deluded romantics barely counted as criminals, in her mind.

“It might be nice to take a break from some of the heavy stuff,” Clint said, looking carefully at Natasha.

Natasha thought about it. Clint had been shot in two of the past three missions. He deserved a break.

She gave Clint a slight nod. She wouldn’t fight this assignment.

Maria noticed the silent interaction between them, smiled briefly, and put two folders on the table. She slid the first to Natasha.

“You are Nicole Redman, former secretary whose gold-digging turned into true love,” she told Natasha.

Natasha rolled her eyes. Why did her covers always need Clint to be wealthy to be interested? She needed to have a word with the SHIELD department responsible.

Maria slid the second folder to Clint.

“You are Collin Barks. Solidly upper middle class once your construction firm took off, but not as rich as you pretended to be for Nicole at first. You’re rich enough to be interesting to Halverson Watson, but you don’t have the wealth or the contacts to threaten her.”

Clint flicked through his folder with interest. He wasn’t as good as Natasha was at medium term undercover work (no one was), but she was glad to have him at her back all the same.

“Nicole, your greatest desire is to have a wedding inspired by the French royalty,” Maria told him. “Thus the reason to hire Fantasy Weddings.”

“I didn’t think the French had royalty,” Clint said, putting on his best hick accent.

Both Maria and Natasha glared at him. Clint pretending to be dim sometimes had its uses, but it wasn’t appropriate for a briefing.

“Okay, okay. What century?” he asked.

“The 18th. Louis the Sixteenth,” Maria announced.

Natasha raised her eyebrow in surprise. Did they have to choose a King who had come to such an untimely end?

“The monogamous one? Makes sense for a wedding,” Clint said, out loud.

His optimism was going to be the death of her.

“What’s the rest of my dream?” Natasha asked.

“To be the center of the event. So you should put Sharon and I in the ugliest bridesmaid’s dresses possible.”

Natasha grinned, seeing the bribe for what it was, and appreciating it. It would be tough finding something that looked bad on Maria and Sharon, but she was up to the challenge.

“You contact her tomorrow. Sort out the details of your covers between yourselves.”

Maria waved a hand in dismissal.

Natasha turned to Clint, and tilted her head. The usual meeting place?

Clint grabbed his folder from the table and headed to the door in a couple easy strides. Of course.

Behind her, Natasha could hear Maria muttering about telepathic assassins. Natasha didn’t bother to hide her smile as she followed Clint.

*snicker* Oh, Clint. The monogamous one - uh honey, no, most likely not. More like the one who got his head chopped off by his extremely disgruntled subjects. XD And I sooooo bet those bridesmaid dresses are AWFUL! Natasha wouldn't back down from a challenge like that.

For once, Clint gets to class early. Admittedly, it’s the first day of class, but still. Sliding to the floor in the empty hallway, he pulls his phone out of his pocket – there’s still a good 30 minutes before his “History of Ballet” lecture, enough time for a couple games of 2048. After three games, Clint finds himself with 20 minutes still before lecture, and a few people who’ve joined him on the floor.

The one closest to him is a redhead, leaning her head against the wall and watching the others in the small space. She looks familiar, and she doesn’t have earbuds in, or an open book on her lap, so Clint figures it’s probably alright to talk to her. As he stands up and moves toward her, her eyes snap over to him.

And read the rest of ao3, I guess: http://archiveofourown.org/works/2152419

I'm working on the title, I promise.

*hugs* I hope your Sunday is better.

Yeah, this was chapter 1 of a twisty fic, but it's like 7th on my list of fics to write at the moment, so I decided to just post it as its own thing.

No, Natasha definitely wouldn't back down from that. If I had fanart skills I would try to draw Natasha, Sharon and Maria in their outfits.

And Clint is a sweetheart.

Loved your reasoning for SHIELD to be handling this, loved the bridesmaid dresses challenge, loved the telepathic assassins.

But especially loved this:

Both Maria and Natasha glared at him. Clint pretending to be dim sometimes had its uses, but it wasn’t appropriate for a briefing.

FIC: The Map (rated G, no warnings)

[identity profile] crazy4orcas.livejournal.com 2014-08-31 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Co-Authored with [livejournal.com profile] franztastisch

The map was SHIELD legend. It had first hung in Coulson’s office; nondescript, no ornamentation or stylized writing, just an ordinary world map. And then one day Coulson noticed a dozen or so colored pins adorning his previously unblemished map. Over time the pins grew in number and color. All Coulson could glean from the placing of pins was that each marked city was the location of a Strike Team Delta mission or a solo mission of either Barton’s or Romanoff’s. Eventually his curiosity got the better of him and he brought in Agent Hill to see if she could provide any insight. Together they were able to determine that at least some of the pins had to do with injuries sustained on mission, but the color coding remained a mystery.

Excellent dialogue!

"Who comes to college to work hard?" -- I can totally relate to this comment. ;)

:D I actually worked ridiculously hard at college, but I understand there are people who don't, and I occasionally wish I had walked that path.

Oh, but now I want chapters 2-7, including the one where the Halversons panic and actually put the wedding on, and then Maria is like,

"Yep, that's binding alright."

"Can't be. It was fake."

"No it wasn't. Remember, I was there?"

"You wouldn't, Hill."

"Ha. Like hell i wouldn't. Not after that dress she made me wear."
