ATTF: Gadgets, Weapons, and Technology

[Today's ATTF post is brought to you by [livejournal.com profile] crazy4orcas, who was unable to be around to post in-person. Let's get a good discussion going for when she can chime in. :)]

Happy Friday! I hope everyone has had a great week and is up for having an even better weekend.

This Friday, I’d like to chat about Gadgets, Weapons, and Technology. We’ve seen some pretty awesome things in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and our favorite master assassins have gotten to use some of them. With the Age of Ultron behind the scenes pictures floating around lately, we’ve gotten some teasers about what new toys might be in the works.

[spoiler photos under cut]

Like Natasha’s motorcycle:

These pieces of spoilery eye candy have gotten me thinking about what other kinds of new gadgets, weapons, and technology we can hope/expect to see in Age of Ultron. Is there anything in particular you’d like to see Clint and Natasha use?

Do you have a headcanon for Clint and Natasha’s suppliers? Do they solely rely on SHIELD? Or Stark? Or do they have their own, private suppliers? Maybe they retrofit commonly available weapons on their own?

Do you have any recommendations for fic that includes our favorite couple using interesting gadgets?
So, first round of drinks is on me – Cheers!

Things to remember:
1) Always label NSFW (Not Safe For Work) stuff in the title and post under a cut.
2) Fic and artwork needs to have a rating and warnings (or you can say that you’ve chosen not to use warnings).
3) For people with annoying internet connections, say in the title if a comment is graphic/images/gif-heavy and post picspams under a cut.
4) Have a damn good time! (Because if that’s not happening then this post has clearly failed.)

All of the above? My headcanon is that they have their own suppliers for certain things, including those secret caches no one else knows exist, that they use SHIELD and Stark stuff heavily, and that they design/retrofit/cobble together their own all the time.

"All of the above." is a favorite answer of mine! So many possibilities!

I think Natasha's new uniform is new weaponry as well...apparently the entire thing becomes a taser now (at least that's what it looks like and people are guessing)...I'm guessing the new weaponry is Stark tech.??? Although I like to think she is borrowing those sticks from Bobbi lol.

I haven't seen too much about Natasha's new uniform -- other than the picture/poster series that was released at Comic-Con.

And I like the borrowing from Bobbi theory. :)

Well, my head canon jives with canon to some extent, namely that for sidearms they both use what we see in the MCU -- Natasha with her Glocks and Clint with a Heckler & Koch. As for the Widow's Bite, I don't have a particular canon I'm ashamed to admit, but would assume that Tony would have made certain improvements, once Natasha moved in.

As for Clint's arrows -- well, we know he has a gazillion trick ones, so I tend to think that he designs them, and then hands the designs to Tony to turn into something usable. (Tony sets aside his "I don't make weapons anymore" thing for his teammate, of course.)

Then I also have Q (yes, the Bond Q) make Clint a box full of Very Cool arrows, because he is smitten with both Clint and the idea of an archer in MI-6's line of work ... One of them brings down the helicarrier at the behest of Loki (...) and the other one ... well, you'll just have to read the stories! ;-)

Oh, and here's how that whole Tony-makes-arrows-for-Clint thing plays out ((in "The Skies Over Manhattan"):

"Clint is not what I’d been led to expect. So … smooth.”

Natasha considers this for a moment before she decides that, having already spent several weeks being misled by a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent under her own roof, Pepper deserves the truth this time. Besides, Phil trusted her and she’s an invaluable ally -- all that stands between Tony Stark and total anarchic megalomania. The truth it is.

“That wasn’t Clint Barton you just met. That was Grayson Waterston III, I believe. Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Berlin. Or maybe Colin Thomson, heir to North Atlantic off-shore oil interests, with a lucrative sideline in firearms.”

Understanding dawns in Pepper’s eyes, and a bit of envy.

“Oh, he has a party mode, does he? How … useful. I wish Tony could put on ‘agreeable’ as easily as that. Maybe I could get Clint to give him some lessons.”

The idea of Hawkeye giving a tutorial on social graces to Ironman hangs in the room for a shining, Dali-esque moment, before Natasha pierces the bubble.

“Speaking of whom. Where is Tony? I only got Clint to come on the promise of a highly technical discussion on arrowheads. I won’t hear the end of it if that doesn’t happen.”

Pepper sighs. “The Tony Stark version of party mode. Absent. Invisible. Probably hiding in his lab.”

But then she brightens, gives Natasha a conspiratorial wink and looks to the ceiling.

“JARVIS. Please tell Mister Stark that if he doesn’t get up here in the next five minutes, whatever sex he was hoping to have ever again will be indefinitely postponed. And I mean, indefinitely.”

Then, almost as an afterthought, she adds, “Oh, and also tell him Hawkeye wants to talk about arrow designs.”

She smiles sweetly at Natasha.

“The carrot and the stick. Works even on eccentric inventors. Besides, I always wanted to use that line. Can I get you a drink?”

I loved that bit so hard when I first read that fic, and I still do. XDDD

I'd love to be a fly on the wall when Clint and Tony get going on discussions about arrows. :)

"You sure about that, Stark?"

"Absolutely. Trust me."

"I think the last guy said that to me, I ended up with a black eye, no underwear and a set of encyclopedias."

"Oh, come on, Barton. Just fire the damn thing already."

"Tell me again why I should have faith in something designed by a weapons 'expert' who thinks you fire arrows?"

"Suit yourself. I'll tell JARVIS to post on Tumblr that the Great Hawkeye is really a chicken. Do you know how many followers he has?"

"Fine. You win. Give me the fucking thing."

"You won't regret this, Barton."

phhhh-twang

"Huh."

"That's all you got, huh? Come on. Surely you can do better than that? This is post-modern counter-terrorism at its most sophisticated."

"Okay, fine. I like the way it splits apart and goes after a dozen targets at once. I think I can work with that. And the flashing police lights are a nice touch. But could you have it play something other than I've lost that lovin' feeling?"

Bwahahahahahaha, Tony!

"I think the last guy said that to me, I ended up with a black eye, no underwear and a set of encyclopedias." Now THIS is a story I'd love to read about!

Trick arrows with musical accompaniment? That is genius!

LMAO this is awesome. And I keep picturing this guy as the the last guy who told Clint to trust him.
