NOTE: PROMPTING HAS NOW CLOSED, BUT FICS AND FANWORKS MAY STILL BE SUBMITTED THROUGH AUGUST 31ST. THANKS!
Welcome!!!! The time is now upon us. This will kick off a month's worth of prompting and fanworking and all the good things. Not sure what to do? Click below for our handy-dandy Promptathon Guide!
RULES ON POSTING SUBMISSIONS
(please read before you post! <3)
The Rules. Just follow these three easy steps!
1. Leave a Prompt.
Prompts can be anything--simple or elaborate, words or pictures, songs or poems, lyrics or phrases. Anything that, to you, inspires a C/N fanwork. Use your imagination. Go crazy. All I ask is that you keep it tasteful and warn for anything explicit or triggery. Also, try to be as specific as you can with your prompts--this is often very helpful to those creating the fanwork.
And leave as many prompts as you want. I’m serious. Keep coming back, y’all. We want all the prompts we can possibly get Also, be sure to leave each prompt as a separate comment.
2. Wait a week.
Tailgate and chitchat and keep leaving prompts. And mull over the epic fanworks you are creating.
3. Submit C/N fanwork like there is no tomorrow.
All submissions should either be posted here or linked to this post via a comment. The nitty gritty details of posting your stuff can be found HERE. Please read before you post
Timeframe:
Prompts will be accepted starting today, Friday, July 13th (!!!) and will remain open until Friday, August 10th. Submissions may be submitted beginning on Friday, July 20th and may continue to be submitted until August 10th.
What we hope to accomplish with all this promptathon-iness:
- A chance to get in the game. Been wanting to jump into the C/N fanwork scene but not sure where to start? Now’s the time. There’s no length requirement on the works submitted, you can focus on drabbles and vidlets and short and sweet projects (or do longer more epic stuff if that strikes your fancy as well). It’s really entirely up to you. We’re just hoping to provide a fun, no-pressure environment.
- Meet new and awesome people. Because srsly, I love everyone in this bar. It's a good damn bar. Don't be afraid to say hello
- Ship like you’ve never shipped before.
- Tailgate when appropriate. My motto is, if something ain’t a cocktail party, you just aren’t trying hard enough. In that spirit,
aurora_0811and I are hosting the tailgate section (which I think at this point just includes random chatter and ridiculousness, cheerleading and tomfoolery, because I doubt our comm’s talkative nature will be suppressed even during the prompting/waiting period.) So pull up a helicarrier-shaped lawnchair, crack open a cold one and settle in for the festivities. And leave prompts.
And most of all, have fun. :)
FIC: Agent Barton's Strictly Professional Interest (Part 4/4)
Barton looks up from the photograph, surprised. “Are you kidding? I’ve been going over this file for four days now.”
“Exactly. This file. No language skills, no location assessment. No weapons inventory either, which was due on my desk yesterday by the way.”
“Coulson, c’mon. You really need me to write ‘the usual’ every time I--”
“Yes, Barton, I do. It’s protocol. It exists for a reason. It forces you to prepare properly.”
The archer gestures to the file spread out in front of him. “This is preparation.”
“It’s somewhat single-minded.”
“She’s an expert assassin. A professional. You don’t think single-mindedness is a good idea?”
Coulson chooses his next words carefully. “You don’t think you’re taking more than a professional interest in this mission?”
Barton frowns, then laughs, bemused. “The hell? No.”
There’s a pause, as Coulson opens his mouth to speak, stops, closes it again. He changes tack.
“I want the weapons inventory and the location report on my desk before you leave in the morning. And I want you to do a risk assessment.”
Barton scoffs. “I can do that now. ‘Brief: take down deadly and highly effective assassin who’s been known to kill 27 troops using only a nail file. Risk category: high.’ Happy?”
“Not particularly. This woman is deadly and highly effective, Barton. And you seem to be more interested in enjoying her exploits than planning a mission to take her out.”
“Coulson, you know how this works. I need to know everything about a target: how she operates, how she’ll react, that she’s capable of killing 27 armed men with a nail file.”
“You seem unusually preoccupied with that detail--”
“Why aren’t you? You’re the one who wanted the risk assessment!”
“Listen to yourself Barton! I’ve been listening to it for a week now and to be honest, you’re starting to sound... Well, you sound...”
“What, Coulson?” Barton snaps, his temper fraying. “I sound what?”
“Fannish.”
It’s a moment before Barton can speak.
“‘Fannish’? ‘Fannish’--”
“--and I think it’s clouding your judgement.”
Barton glares across the table at his handler. Several seconds tick by before he takes a deep breath and shifts his attention back to the file.
“You’re dreaming it, Coulson. And you’re forgetting that I am also a deadly and highly-effective assassin. Relax. She’ll be dead by Sunday morning.”
Coulson seems to think about speaking, but thinks better of it and gets up to leave instead.
Alone in the rec room, Barton looks again at the Bucharest photo, at the redhead smiling so convincingly at her mark, and mutters to himself.
“Doesn’t mean it’s not a waste, is all I’m saying...”
Re: FIC: Agent Barton's Strictly Professional Interest (Part 4/4)
Also? 'Redactedville' is never going to stop being hilarious. Ever.
There is so much West Wing bantery awesomness here I can't even.

Filed under things I did not know I needed in my life and now cannot live without. Avengers+WestWingBanter = EPIC WIN
Because this story is freakin' GENIUS!
Total agreement! I loved it!
Re: FIC: Agent Barton's Strictly Professional Interest (Part 4/4)
Thankyou so much. *sealclaps* I am thrilled you enjoyed it! :D
Re: FIC: Agent Barton's Strictly Professional Interest (Part 4/4)
Re: FIC: Agent Barton's Strictly Professional Interest (Part 4/4)
Everything is redacted in Redactedville! Thighs can be a primary weapon! Clint jealous of her kill rate. The hypothetical with Coulson. Clint's obsession with the 27 people and a nail file! “I’m just saying it’s, y’know... above average.” Bwahahaha! And then Clint's weapon's inventary being 'the usual', ‘Brief: take down deadly and highly effective assassin who’s been known to kill 27 troops using only a nail file. Risk category: high.’, and I am also a deadly and highly-effective assassin. So. Much. Hilarity. And then, right at the end, wouldn't it be a waste... This leapt into my favourite fics, seriously, so, so good <3
Re: FIC: Agent Barton's Strictly Professional Interest (Part 4/4)
Screw dark twisty obsession fics! (I mean who wants to read that, srsly? ;P) But I swear, I don't think this prompt could have been written any better. The serious subtext is all still there but the humor is just divine, and it creates the perfect amount of levity. SO GOOD. ALL THE AWARDS.
Re: FIC: Agent Barton's Strictly Professional Interest (Part 4/4)
So much love, Bee. So much love and ALL THE HUGS. Seriously, though, you spoil me.
Screw dark twisty obsession fics! (I mean who wants to read that, srsly?
**waves hand in the air** ME!! ME!! Meeeeee! I wanna read 'em!!!! I'm just happy to have repaid a tiny fraction of the entertainment you've given me, my friend. And continue to give with said dark twisty obsession fics!
Re: FIC: Agent Barton's Strictly Professional Interest (Part 4/4)
HA! Well, I shall try my best to keep teasing the story out of the Cronenburgs. They're such fascinating peeps. *g*
Re: FIC: Agent Barton's Strictly Professional Interest (Part 4/4)
Re: FIC: Agent Barton's Strictly Professional Interest (Part 4/4)
And the bits you like - yay!! "y'know...above average" is a personal favourite of mine, as is the risk assessment and his obsession with the 27 people. I'm so glad they translated :) This is just the best reaction ever :D
This leapt into my favourite fics
:O ... so, we don't really know each other, but I hope you don't think I'm being overly forward when I say:
INCOMIIIIIING!!!! **RUNNING TACKLEGLOMPS YOU** hehe
Re: FIC: Agent Barton's Strictly Professional Interest (Part 4/4)
'above average' is such an unstatement LOL and I'm a Brit, so our humour tends to be like that, understanding and depreciating ourselves and everything else. I loved it. It was absolutely something I could see a secret agent type person saying and yet I'd never thought of them saying it and now, forever, in my head this is what secret agent types say of the best in the business - 'y'know, they're kind of above average' haha. And today's obession with risk assessments combined with what I am convinced is a shed-load of paperwork at SHIELD, just, 'of course the risk assessment is gonna be high! She killed 27 people with a nail file, just, YES *cracks up laughing again*.
*looks up at you somewhat dazed* Just don't grope me and we'll be fine ;)
*twirls you*
Re: FIC: Agent Barton's Strictly Professional Interest (Part 4/4)
Seriously though... gah and squee!!! You're way too kind but I'm so excited that you enjoyed this so much. I am grinning like crazy over here :D and as a fellow Commonwealth person (Australian, ahoy) I sooo hear you on the understated humour thing - I know we can be loud, but we definitely share your love of a dry wit. I'm so glad it actually reads like that. And I totally agree - the categories of agent quality in my head go something like: passable, acceptable, fair, above average :D Maybe it's a Bond thing... (speaking of which, you guys are doing an awesome job on the Olympics, v impressive opening ceremony) And because of COURSE there would be mountains of paperwork. I actually really love the idea of the mundane bits behind the superhero shenannigans, it's just inherently funny in my head, glad it is in yours too :D
Ok, I'm being obnoxious. I'm shushing now :) but thankyou, so much. And while I'm thanking you for things, thankyou for the awesome icons too - very much appreciated! :)
Re: FIC: Agent Barton's Strictly Professional Interest (Part 4/4)
Lol'ing forever over here. don't mind me.
Ok, I know I'm like creepy comment-crashing girl, but in my defense, since I did the original post, all the comments end up in my inbox. And well, sometimes people just say epic funny shit and it deserves to be commented on. So there. ;)
Re: FIC: Agent Barton's Strictly Professional Interest (Part 4/4)
And I know I said I was getting off LJ til after work... but in MY defence, it's lunchtime...kinda...
Re: FIC: Agent Barton's Strictly Professional Interest (Part 4/4)
(actually no one says that but they should)
Re: FIC: Agent Barton's Strictly Professional Interest (Part 4/4)
Also? Appropriate icon is appropriate.

I actually really love the idea of the mundane bits behind the superhero shenannigans Yes, me too! It's like all the things that we can relate too, but then twisted up or even more of a minefield when superheroes are thrown into the mix. Like in the Amazing Spider Man - I don't want to spoil you, so I'll just say 'the eggs'! SHIELD and paperwork, yep, huge hilarity. Have you seen the memo's from Fury on tumblr? HILARITY.
I went in prepared to take the mick out of the opening ceremony, but I think Boyle did a good job and actually I really enjoyed it. To be fair, he had me with children's literature *grins*. And I'm glad you like the icons, thank you! :D
Obnoxious? Bwhaha, hello person who has not known me very long: I can have LOOONNNG comment conversations. They are FUN :D But you're gonna have to excuse me whilst I hunt down all other fic that you've written and friend you and stalk you...with absolutely no groping, it'll all be above board, honest ;)
Re: FIC: Agent Barton's Strictly Professional Interest (Part 4/4)
Have you seen the memo's from Fury on tumblr?
....no! But I must see them!!!... tumblr intimidates me, I don't understand how it works! :S any links/crumbs you could throw my way?
As for the Olympics - from here, it looks like you guys are going through the same series of emotions that we all did when it was in Sydney: WOO WE GOT THE OLYMPICS; shit it's a really long way away isn't it; holy crap how much money are we spending on this thing?; ok, this organising committee is filled with incompetent bastards; no really, how much money are we spending on this you guys?; is anything going to be finished cos this could be embarrassing; tickets cost HOW MUCH?? yeah I'm not even going to bother; they're serously doing a national tour with the flame? c'mon, Hitler invented that, who gives a crap about--; OH MY GOD THIS TORCH RELAY IS GIVING ME FEELINGS!!!; I MUST BUY ALL THE TICKETS NOW!!; OH MY NATION LOOK AT THIS OPENING CEREMONY, IT IS CHEESY BUT IT IS AWESOME AND I AM SO PROUD!!!; FUCK YEAH WE'RE WINNING MEDALS NOOOOOW BITCHES!!!!; oh... it's over.; NO WAIT!! PARALYMPICS FTW!!!!! :D :D :D
Wow... that gag kinda got away from me there :) But hey, it's going great, you guys should be proud! Enjoy it!
Re: FIC: Agent Barton's Strictly Professional Interest (Part 4/4)
I LOVE long comment conversations. I love watching ideas and stories getting born in them, like watching clouds form. Thing of beauty. I'm always nervous about comment-rambling to people I don't know yet *grins* but no one has ever said 'sheesh, you couldn't have used fewer words?' so I'm getting better at it. Rambling Commenters Unite!
I'm not actually on tumblr either - there are too many pretty pictures, too likely to get addicted *grins* - but I dive in every so often. memos from Fury is what it says in the title and cracks me up often. You can follow on twitter to see when it updates, which is often. Other than that, check the recs tags for this comm. A few of us rec things from tumblr. There's a Clint/Natasha tumblr comm thingy and some folks that are on
Um, yeah, I have a reccing problem as well as a comment problem *grins*.
LOL that is EXACTLY how our Olympic journey has gone :D :D :D Apart from the Torch relay bit where a bunch of us where sat watching the news going 'but with all the crazy rain we have right now, how the hell is this thing staying lit?!'
Re: FIC: Agent Barton's Strictly Professional Interest (Part 4/4)
Thanks for the crazy internet cookies! My lj fandom adventures just predate Avengers. It's all Bee's fault, of course ;) I finally got around to watching BSG in January, and fell hook, line and sinker for pilots. And when it finished I was driven to the interwebs in search of solace - and I found Bee! ...who then pulled me kicking and screaming (except there was no kicking or screaming) over to Avengers/Assassins. I am incredibly grateful to have such a friendly initiation fandom! Can't help but feel I have found my people. ;) You're very kind re: teh writing. Actually, I was never going to write anything. But then I was never going to sign up for lj, comment on fanfic, or indeed even read fanfic in the first place. Slippery slope is slippery... and also a bloody fun ride! :D
(Oh and re: the flame? If I can quote Celine Dion from the Atlanta '96 opener: 'it is the power of the dream that brings [the flame] here [still alight].' #olympicsnerd #pointlesshastagging)
Re: FIC: Agent Barton's Strictly Professional Interest (Part 4/4)
Excellent fic! :D
Re: FIC: Agent Barton's Strictly Professional Interest (Part 4/4)
Sigh. Oh yes. Poor, poor long-suffering Coulson. Just can't get over the idea that there's still bureaucracy to be done, even in SHIELD... God knows how he felt when Clint showed up with her after all this! And I really love badass Nat too :)
Thanks so much! :D
