In short, I got to write the fic I wanted to write, and remix a fic I really liked when I first read it...so I consider this a win/win. Banner Challenge

We only had one banner entry for this month, so I was going to use that one, but the sizing didn't work :( Instead I'm using one of the unused banners from the last challenge set, by

frea_o. People in the Southern Hemisphere, have a seasonally appropriate banner!

If anyone would like to contribute a banner to the community, because it is nice when we get a shiny new banner at the start of each month, just send them in to be_compromised@hotmail.com If we have more than one by the end of the month I'll do a vote/challenge. No theme, unless you feel inspired by the time of year.

A few rules...
1) Everyone is invited to play, seriously, everyone, give it go!
2) Banners must be safe for work.
3) Banners must have a width of 800 and a height of 350 and preferably be a png or jpg file.
4) If it comes to a vote we will make your banners anonymous, so please don’t tell or show anyone what you’ve made until the end of the start of the next month.
5) When new films etc come out please don’t use images that could be spoilers until general DVD release. (If you want to use something and you're not sure if it counts as a spoiler or not, PM me or email.)

Author's Note: I really enjoy missionfic, where relationships get explored because of a situation and you can throw metaphors and "if things hadn't gone wrong this wouldn't be happening" stuff, and "well, now we've got a new relationship post-disaster, how did that happen?", and Alphaflyer's Warmth was a story that hit so many of my buttons I decided it had to be the one I wanted to explore. The story I ended up writing is, in some ways, a mirroring, where I've turned a frigid hotel room to a hot desert - but I wanted to maintain the journey that Alphaflyer took Clint and Natasha through, so that the endings would be very similar. I hope I've created something worth reading, because I think the original story is such a tidy bit of characterization that I'd love to live up to.

Author's Note I: So, as remixes go, I'd say that this one is firmly in the "Read the Fic and Let the Plotbunnies Go Wild" camp. For the most part, I was inspired by the title of the fic and of Natasha having to work within SHIELD's constraints to rescue Clint. Having recently OD'ed on Agents of SHIELD, and rewatched Winter Soldier, I started thinking about how things might be different now -- the constraints don't exist, but neither do the resources. And that gave me the perfect excuse to write The Story of Where Clint Was During the Movie, Why Natasha Didn't Seem Especially Worried About Him, and Oh Yeah That Damned Necklace. Because go big or go home, am I right? I do feel kind of bad that this story doesn't reflect the source material more, but I'm hoping that my recipient - and all y'all - will enjoy it for what it is.
Author's Note II: This is essentially a crossover with Winter Soldier and Agents of SHIELD, with spoilers for the latter through the season one finale.
Author's Notes III-V: The POV/tense shifts are Dan Simmons' fault. The man is a crazy genius and I made the mistake of rereading his Hyperion Cantos this summer. It ate my brain. The title is from "Mended" by The Autumn Film. And thanks to

Allisnow is somebody I have referred to in the past as "the Michelangelo of the Clintasha fandom". White Blank Page in particular is literally the best case fic I've ever read.

To recap - I sign up for something I've never done before and the person I get assigned is Michelangelo and on the list is the Sistine Chapel.

So I took a look at the other fics on the list and there was something about Out is Through that really spoke to me. I'm a sucker for Clintasha meeting stories, and telling Clint's part of that story seemed to fit the bill perfectly.

Author's Note: While I was working on my remix of Out is Through I decided to reread White Blank Page - primarily because I hadn't read it in a while, but also because I wanted to make absolutely sure I wasn't avoiding the potential to tell a story that was in me to tell. A lot of times when I'm inspired to write a fic it's because I've seen an "entry point" in canon that allows me to slide in, do my work and then leave.

I found that point in White Blank Page during my reread when I started drawing mental parallels between Kamala Menesh and Yelena Belova, Natasha's "sister" in the Red Room. What resulted wasn't a perfect "what if" by any means, but is definitely a story I am proud to say was inspired by allisnow's amazing storytelling.

Summary: Natasha, picking up the pieces.

In i_llbedammned's story "Innocence" (link above), Natasha reflects on her blood-stained past and on the role Clint plays in her present. It ends with Natasha recalling, “… the times when they just met in his shitty apartment and ate dinner together. The pain would just melt away into warmth. Maybe this was what innocence felt like.” I liked the idea of Clint’s place providing Natasha with an emotional anchor, and decided to explore this in the context of the events of CA:TWS.

This story is a companion piece to "Safe House" and "Recurve". Note that this apartment is not the Hawkguy place in Brooklyn, but rather my head canon one from my story “The Skies Over Manhattan”, which I started to write long before I ever picked up a comic.
