ATTF: Comm Annibirthday & 3 Sentence Fics

Hi All, this weekend is our community's annibirthday - we're 9 years old! That's nearly a decade of familiar faces and new faces and sometimes even familiar faces returning again; of all you lovely people making this corner of fandom what it is. Whether you've been around since we first set up shop on livejournal back in the day or this is the first be_compromised post you've read: hello you wonderful person and a very happy annibirthday to you <3

We've spread out a bit over the years, so if you're looking for a place to party here's a reminder that you can:
- post fic, creations, recs, events, and anything relevant to our interests to this dreamwidth comm
- join us for a chat on Discord
- browse and submit things to our tumblr
- plus check who's going by what handle where on our username database - and add yourself if you like!

And bringing back an old favourite All The Things Friday event to celebrate, let's start the weekend early with a 3 Sentence Fics Challenge!

How to play:

1) Leave a (short) prompt in a comment. You can leave as many prompts as you like, but please put each prompt in a seperate comment.

2) Reply to prompts with three sentence fics. Grammar can be suspect, but fills must be ONLY THREE sentences long! You can reply to as many prompts as you like and prompts can have multiple fills. You can even reply to your own prompts. Or reply to other people's fills. The more writing the better!

Prompts and fills can include any Marvel characters. And there's no deadline, just whenever we run out of steam.

3) Have fun!

Things to remember:
1) Always label NSFW (Not Safe For Work) stuff in the title and post under a cut.
2) Fic and artwork needs to have a rating and warnings (or you can say that you’ve chosen not to use warnings).
3) For people with annoying internet connections, say in the title if a comment is graphic/images/gif-heavy and post picspams under a cut.

anniversary

Natasha doesn't do anniversaries, in spite of her extensive ledger she cannot remember more than the small snippets that slip though her subconscious. The cherry blossoms floating in the river, the sound of her feet on frost hardened ground. Clint doesn't remind her, does not rub her nose in what she did - she grieves in real time as each shattered fragments makes the pain raw and real once more.

Kate took in the disaster that was Clint's kitchen -- the stack of dirty bowls in the sink, the splatter of purple something on the wall, the yellow goo smeared across the counters, the lumpy greyish mass sitting on a plate in the middle of the table -- and stared at it, horrified.

"Uh, Clint... I'm almost afraid to ask, but did you lose a bet to Natasha or something?" she asked.

Clint looked at her sheepishly and answered, "Kinda... Happy Birthday, Katie-Kate!"

"You can just say it hurts you know?" Bucky soothes the 5th time he hears Natasha's indignant exhale when he presses a little too hard on the graze marring her left side, "One of the joys of a life outside those four red walls. Clint has no problem expressing pain"

"Clint has no problem being loud" Natasha corrects grin creeping across her face "Hence the soundproofing - and why he got us banned from that bed and breakfast in Vermont"

Natasha smirked and lounged back against the headboard, shaking her arm to make the handcuff around her wrist rattle against the metal post at the same time it made Clint look up from where he was between her legs.

"I'm not sure why you thought these would have any real impact on me - anymore than they'd have an impact of James - what with my skill at getting out of them so easily and his super soldier ability to break them," she purred, rubbing a leg along his arm.

Clint chuckled as James' head appeared over his shoulder and he pressed an open mouthed kiss to Clint's skin before mumbling, "Because the fun part is what happens when you do."

Clint, ghosts

When Clint was little, his brother used to frighten him with lurid tales of the supernatural that tended to involve an unexplained or unavenged death, creaking doors, and goosebumps galore (assisted by Barney running threads over Clint's scrunched up scaredy-face).

As a teen, Clint had snuck into a Saturday matinee performance of Ghostbusters, gagging appropriately at the gallons of slime; the fanged hellhounds; and the idea that either Rick Moranis or Bill Murray might be considered appropriate mates for Sigourney Weaver.

He wipes the ectoplasm off his face now, nocks another proton energy arrow and - after reassuring himself that Natasha has in fact reverted back to her usual human form - declares that as ghost stories go, he much prefers Barney's approach.

Clint, Liho

Clint looks over at the cat draped across the windowsill and wonders not for the first time how she became his problem; he definitely isn't her owner and it's not like Natasha even has dibs on ownership so how DID he wind up with her?

He knows how, despite playing dumb, and in a weird way he even kind of likes it. At least with Liho here, he has a tangible reminder of her here in his life when she's away on a long-term, deep cover mission and he can almost - almost - pretend that she misses him as much as he misses her.

"Easy Tiger", Clint

"No, no, no, I can totally do this!" Clint says as he cautiously approaches the 600lb blue and green striped tiger-with-wings that is watching him warily.

"I'm not saving you if you get mauled," Natasha warns, her arms crossed and her expression dubious.

From behind them both, Steve rubs his forehead in annoyance and says with a sigh, "Fucking AIM."

Rain

The weeping willow's branches are forming a protective canopy, keeping them safe from the rain, the cold and their murderous pursuers.

"You think they've gone?" Natasha whispers, peering through the foliage.

Clint does indeed think so, but the way the leaves allow spots of light to dance across Natasha's autumn-coloured hair feeds a lovelorn hunger in him that will never be fully sated, so he signs 'five more minutes'.

"The things I do for you," Natasha says and, when Clint groans into the pillow he's clutching and pushes his naked hips up to meet her, adds "hold still."

"I love you and appreciate you and ohmygod, ow, ow, ouch...!" he moans, embarrassment finally giving way to relief.

"There you go," Natasha says, holding tweezers and splinter aloft victoriously, "pretty sure this means we're officially best friends now - just please: don't go sliding down any more wooden bannisters!"

Brazil, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Colombia, Indonesia, Were places that despite never visiting Natasha felt she knew all too well. She knew how to encourage custom with sweet smell of the freshly brewed Colombian blend, how to fit one a customer's 5 word order to one slip, how to use the Costa Rican blend for hazelnut lattes to add to the “nutty” taste, and for those who didn’t really like coffee, Ethiopia was the place to go, with its “chocolatey undertones” perfect for the customer with a sweet tooth and if you could up-sell it to a mocha sweetheart, that would be great.

Natasha knew the script and at no point were hot wet bedraggled guys meant to turn up and request a simple"black coffee - hot"

"Oh my god," James groans, voice muffled by the pillow.

"I told you," Clint mutters from the other side of the bed, "I did, I warned you, but nooo; 'stay' you said, 'don't bother get up' you said, because Mr Winter Soldier, Survivor of Russian Winters and Deep Freeze, laughs in the face of bed socks."

Curled up between them in the middle and warming up nicely, with Clint's arm around her waist and her icy feet tucked under James' thigh, Natasha smiles.

"You could have avoided all this mayhem if you'd just learned to say 'no'," Kate says, bow still in her hand as she looks upon Clint's utterly destroyed apartment.

"Nat and Bucky went on that job together and they are both my friends, I couldn't have promised to take care of just one of their pets!" Clint replies dismally, almost bowled over by a distraught Lucky who seeks comfort in his arms.

Hissing under the respective net-arrows affixing them to separate corners of the room, Liho and Alpine seem to question Clint's life choices just as much as he does.

Teasing

Bruce is likely the only one who remembers a Clint that would laugh easily and was the first to find the joke in a tense situation. There was a time when he didn't dare get between Clint and Natasha when they were in a teasing mood, finding his equipment in the strangest locations or silly drawings all over his white boards, likely obscuring some important calculation that could have changed the world if not for the poop emoji drawn over it. As he watches Clint now, he wonders if he's even watching the same person.

"Clint" Natasha starts in that smug all knowing voice she uses when she can sniff out Clints so-called stupidity "Why are all the targets in the shooting range covered in balloons?"

"I don't know, why are the targets in the shooting range covered in balloons? Not a joke?" Clint says sighing as Natasha meets him with silence "Fine - cause Fury's worries about the threat from killer clowns? No? Look it might be because it's your birthday and your gifts are inside - you have to shoot them out"

She loves it when he signs, when his hands take over to utter the words he never could or to emphasize the ones he can. They are more profound then she expects, even as his hands flow softly against her own. She knows her form is not perfect and his spelling needs work, but she has revived a dead Language before,surely they can bring their own to life.

"Tell me this is 'cause you lost a bet," Bucky says.

"How dare you, it's because I won a bet!" Clint replies, running a hand through his bright purple hair.

Behind him Natasha collapses into laughter at the look on Bucky's face.

Normality

When they're on leave together, they try to act as much like a normal couple as possible; they cook dinner together then clean up the dishes, Natasha washing while Clint dries.

Afterwards, they settle on the couch to watch television, which is such a mundane couply thing to do.

Except they can't help critiquing every little thing -from the hero's stance as he aims his pistol to the way the vigilante wields her knife to the absurdity of always going *up* to the roof where there are far less escape routes - because despite the domesticity of it all, they are still a pair of master assassins at heart.

"No, I don't know where my keys are," Clint grumbles as he crouches down in front of his apartment door and gets to work with a set of lockpicks.

"I'll take a window," Natasha says, already walking away. "Race you."

"You know, these RomComs would only be five minutes long if people only talked to each other," Clint sniffs as the wannabe-suitor on screen risks his future happiness on a hare-brained assumption that could be cleared up in a minute if he only picked up the phone.

"Yes, but then we wouldn't have anything to watch tonight," Natasha frowns absently, "unless you think Die Hard is an option, which it's not: Willis' talks way too much and his undershirt is filthy."

"Well," Clint says, "maybe we can work this out yet: you talk to me for five minutes and I'll take off my very clean tank top while you watch."

Farming

If there is one thing Clint has never gotten used to with this farming thing, it's all the different kind of shit things in produce in the country; telling them apart is nuts.

Now what were those little fecal pearls - deer, bunny rabbit, or... must be that size-challenged pterodactyl thing Van Doom had sent after him a couple of weeks ago, only to have Lila fall in love with it, feed it hot dogs and name it Pete?

"Lila, honey," he hollers, "do try and keep your apex predator away from the chicken coop, 'mkay?"

Clint, Natasha, and Bruce consider the snoozing stegosaurus.

"I guess we just... wait for it to poop your aids out before we send it home?" Natasha says, signing at the same time, while Bruce polishes his glasses and - from what Clint can garner from lipreading - mutters something about technology and fossils and not futzing with timelines.

Or, Clint signs, pulling a face, I could just ask Stark for a new pair.
