NaNoWriMo Clint/Natasha Support Thread

A bunch of us are doing NaNoWriMo this year, so I asked the Best Bartenders of the Best Bar how they'd feel about doing a thread where we can talk about our stories, ask for (and give!) prompts, work out plot-holes, flail, and talk about how much we hate our lives and oh G-d what were we thinking. (Although that last might just be me.)

They graciously gave permission, and Lo! this thread was born.

Here's what I have in mind:

1. Comment with a brief synopsis of a scene, chapter, or heck your whole novel. Feel free to ask for prompts, for help with a plot point, or just to ask someone to pet your head and tell you it will be okay. Whatever you want or need -- this is your support thread.

2. Comment and offer prompts or support to your fellow writers!

3. Lather, rinse, repeat.

NOTE! You absolutely don't have to be doing NaNoWriMo to play! If you are working on any fic, feel free to post for prompts or help if you'd like. And absolutely anyone and everyone can offer prompts, help, meta or discussion.

Oh man I need this so much, but I'm always wary of talking too much about a NaNo (or really any) project because it seems like it saps some of the impetus for writing it.

That said, I'm writing a sequel to White Blank Page (http://archiveofourown.org/works/503738?view_full_work=true) because all of my original story ideas sucked, and it's going pretty well. I got through an action scene with the whole team fairly painlessly, which was a concern of mine going - action scenes, meh - and so far the biggest challenge has been keeping various b-storylines and timelines straight and deciding how much foreshadowing I want to do. I know this is NaNo and it's supposed to be all about wordcount, but I hate rewriting with a burning passion so I'd rather do it as well as possible the first time :)

Oh, I know what you mean... I'm having trouble with trying not to do too much editing myself. (This is not helped by trying to also write fic to post at the same time that I do need to beta.)

Oh my God, I completely forgot all about Nano until this exact second. It's too late to start, isn't it? Is it? The month is a 3rd of the way over but this would be the first year in ages that I didn't at least try...I can't believe I forgot about it!

You know, I think it completely depends on you (and what else you have going on this month) -- but I don't think it is too late at all. Assuming you started to write today, you'd need to average 2500 words a day to make it, although you could bring that number down if you had a couple of days (weekends maybe?) where you really pushed.

I say GO FOR IT!!!

I feel like right now I have both too many ideas and not enough. I know I'm writing Clint/Natasha, and I mostly want to work on things for the same universe that Shot in the Dark and Compromised are in... but I have so many fics that I'm in the middle of, and so many different places it could go.

And frankly? None of them are reaching out and grabbing me right now. I want/need and idea that will run away with me, so I'm definitely open to prompts right now.

And also pats on the head. Guh.

Hey there!

I've read a lot of Clint/Natasha fic that mentions her deprogramming once she comes to SHIELD, but haven't come across anything that really goes into detail about what that process might have been. I kinda see this as a time where the first fragile bonds of trust between Clint and Natasha form, he's there for her in some way during the deprogramming. So maybe a fic that takes a look at the first year (or so?) of her time with SHIELD and how they come to trust one another? And one of my favorite scenes in any Clint/Natasha fic I've read is the one in Compromised where Natasha falls apart and all Clint can do is hold her while she shakes, so maybe we could see the first time she lets that happen -- that she can fall apart because she finally trusts him.

Although, I'll make the offer to bear your children if you would continue with Brown and Gold -- you know, just throwing that out there. =D

I'm writing an original fic as my main NaNo but have written a couple of fanfics I'll go back and edit at the end of November. My longest one so far is a 3.5k SHIELD and Disney Princess fusion that ashen_key prompted me with.

At the moment I kind of hate everything I've written for my original fic (~8,000 words). I think I want to go back to the start and rewrite it with a more tortured main character and some magical realism (at the moment the main character's motivations are 1) It's the right thing to do and 2) Revenge for the death of her friend's wife, which doesn't seem compelling enough).

And re: your original work, I don't know, that motivation seems compelling enough - and interesting! You don't see a lot of revenge for the sake of someone at a step remove.

Write your bliss! If that means starting over, you should start over. Keep the words for the word count, of course, but don't write something you'll hate by the end of the month. That never works well!

So very much not doing NaNo (tried once; it gave me panic attacks; wrisomifu is way more my speed), but my de-aged Natasha fic is looking like being between 20k and 25k when it's finished 0.0

Which, ahhhhhhhhhh, b_c, oh gosh I need help. There is Bruce POV. I do not get Bruce. I find him interesting, but I have no idea how he thinks or the beat of his voice, and my Bruce section is in jumbled, awkward pieces.

So! Anyone have any recs for meta on him, or good fics from his POV, so I might get some...ideas, instead of flailing?

Have you watched the movie w/Joss commentary? He has some good insights on Bruce, talks about things that he and Mark discussed about the character. I took notes :)

I'm doing an original but have been throwing in the words that I write on some fanfic when I get sort of stuck. RIght now, I'm just about a day ahead on the word count but I'm hoping to be at least three days ahead by the end of tonight.

So far, I'm liking what I've written. I've done a bit of plotting on some butcher paper and Sharpies (because if you're going to plot, you might as well do it big) and that has helped me figure out the first couple of hooks. I'm pretty sure I know the ending. What else does a writer need?

You know what I could really use? Some more "prompts" to use in each of the little "stories" (calling them chapters is scary) that I'm writing. When I use the term prompt here, I mean things like "someone dies unexpectedly" or "tie me up" or "blue mountain water". Just... phrases or partial thoughts. Things that can be worked in just about everywhere. I made a list of 30 things here (http://lar-laughs.livejournal.com/443382.html) but I don't think I can use everything I put there. Or I don't like them. One of the two.

Looks like I might be the NaNo veteran here, which makes me feel very... odd. I've been doing NaNoWriMo now for eight years.

Right now, I'm working on the second cycle in my Curse & Quanta universe, the synopsis which is:

Angie Guterman has been a spy for a very long time.

She has given her life and her abilities to her country, abandoning all other concerns and desires for being one of the best. The intelligence community calls her Polaris, and she has been as constant as that same star for over thirty years. Until the day that even her constancy is shattered.

Because everyone has secrets in a profession like hers. And no one gets to keep them forever.

Not when it means stopping the end of the World.

Again.

It's Bond meets Bourne meets high fantasy meets Catholic horror meets apocalypse fic. Yeah, I go all over the place. But it's fun.

It's also kicking my ass and I need to be reminded that I am not insane for starting a new quartet of books having just finished a trilogy.

So, I've been writing nothing but fanfic, and nothing but one shots. I had the best intentions of writing on my sequel to Stumbling Home (which itself ended up being 61k), but I keep getting sidetracked. Maybe next year I'll try to write one thing that's 50k.

I'm hoping to be at 25k before I got to sleep tonight, so there's that at least.

I lost 3000 words yesterday. I hate Google Drive so much that I can't even open it. For what I need, it's always worked well for me but this new "work offline and have it sync next time you're online" is total crap. Then I tested it again with what I thought was the RIGHT way to use the system and it didn't work either.

I'm not saying that those 3000 words were phenomenal or that I can't duplicate them, but it was so disheartening. Instead of being able to continue the momentum I had worked on, I'm back down to zero productivity. The words are in my head but I think I'm afraid to type them up.

In anycase, how awful! If I lost 3000 words (AVERT!) I'd throw the biggest fit ever seen on this side of the Mississippi. That just sucks balls.
