All the Things Friday - Merchandising

So. Chances are that if you are like me, you own a few ::cough:: Hawkeye and/or Black Widow pieces of merchandising.


There are my beloved Dr Pepper cans,


my stickers (okay, they’re more comics than MCU, but they count!),


and of course my personal favorite – the salt and pepper shakers I painted at a paint-your-own pottery event. ‘Cause awesome!


IRL, there are some fabulous items for us all to have. Share yours!

That being said, what about in the MCU? There is a shot in the beginning of the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot of Avengers action figures, and Black Widow is clearly featured (I think Hawkeye’s in there, but it’s hard to tell.) So folks in the Marvel-created universe do know who they are.

So I have a few questions –

1. What are the craziest, weirdest, coolest, most bizarre, extravagant, teeny, huge, (the list goes on) merchandising products that you have seen or heard of? Pictures and/or links are gold! If not available, descriptions make us all smile. :-) For instance, I love the fatheads (and here is hers). ‘Cause, again, awesome! (At $99 each, I shall not be purchasing either soon, but still – I would if I could!)

2. In the MCU, do you think Clint and Natasha get a cut of the action? (It is my head canon that Tony made sure of that.) Beyond that, though, what do they think about merchandising? Are they amused? Horrified? Other?

3. Share links that you have to any fanworks on this topic. For instance, I know that I read a fanfic – although I have no idea how to find it again – about how freaked out Natasha was by the idea of little girls emulating her at Halloween in their little store-bought costumes. She didn’t think that she was remotely worthy of such a thing, nor did she think that little girls should be dressing up like an assassin. This could probably extend to general adoration of them as heroes – I know we’ve all read fics where they discover fanfiction about themselves. While that’s not merchandising, it could be included in this discussion. I leave it up to you!

Things to remember:
1) Always label NSFW (Not Safe For Work) stuff in the title and post under a cut.
2) Fic and artwork needs to have a rating and warnings (or you can say that you’ve chosen not to use warnings).
3) For people with annoying internet connections, say in the title if a comment is graphic/images/gif-heavy and post picspams under a cut.
4) Have a damn good time! (Because if that’s not happening then this post has clearly failed.)

I know I want to put a good picture of MCU Clint and Nat on a cushion, I know there are places that do that, but can I find a good picture? nope hopefully avengers 2 will help with that

also, as the least visible of the avengers, I bet their merchandise, if there was any after the battle of NY, wasn't consistent in naming them (I bet Nat got called The Woman In Black or something)

until Tony stepped in and licensed official avengers merchandise and gave Fury an even bigger headache than before

but of course because of spy reasons the faces on the stuff aren't clear

and Clint thinks it's hilarious and Nat is a bit weirded out about it because she's so used to hiding in plain sight and she doesn't want to be famous

until after CA:TWS then she thinks fuck it and just goes with it because hiding now would defeat the purpose

Your idea about putting Clint and Nat on a cushion reminded me that at one time I had plans to do a lap quilt with a Hawkeye and Black Widow theme. I need to get back to planning that!

Or something.

Since I don't think outside of the box, I feed my obsession with things that come out of boxes. A company called Hot Toys distributes these amazing 1/6th scale figures. Limited runs, so when they're gone, they're gone. I've just gotten into Black Widow comics and have gotten The Name of the Rose, The Itsy-Bitsy Spider, and Black Widow Volume 1 The Finely Woven Thread (omg it's GORGEOUS!). Have to wait until February for Volume 2 The Tightly Tangled Web. :(

I have a fair collection of Marvel merch, the latest inclusion being the Hot Toys Black Widow figure for Cap 2 (I told myself I wasn't going to but it wasn't THAT expensive, all things considered, and I love Hot Toys, since I have their Tony one.) But I'm super into artwork, and I always try to buy something at whatever con I go to that's different and interesting. I bought a ton of new things at SDCC this year that I still need to frame...I think my walls are going to be overflowing soon. (My fav "merch" are the Avengers Ultron concept art posters. Ugh. Just so pretty.) But yeah, have the Funkos (whyyy don't they make a Hawkeye yet!), some mini figures, and for my birthday this year, my friend bought me the new Kotobukiya Black Widow statue for my birthday. (I'm pining for the Hawkeye one when it comes out this week.)

By far, though, my favorite purchase ever made was my Natasha plush I bought at DragonCon. I haven't put her down since I bought her, because I'm a very responsible and mature 30-something. ;)

Beyond the Hot Toys figures, the various smaller figures, the Matchbox-type cars, the stickers, the temporary tattoos, the "all the magazines I've come across that have any peripheral mention of Jeremy Renner," the Hot Topic Hawkeye hoodie, the badges and patches (and the jackets they now adorn), the shrinky towels, the "like Natasha's" arrow necklace, and the bow-and-arrow pendant, there may also be a titanium wedding band-type ring with a purple channel (http://www.colonialjewelers.com/wp-content/uploads/7b1g_xb_ano_purple.jpg) (not necessarily that model, but you get the picture). Don't ask me why that one's my "okay, you've really lost it this time" breakpoint, but that's what I said to myself when I decided I needed just such a ring.
