This weekend is our community’s annibirthday (6 years since we started out on LJ) and it’s the tenth birthday of the MCU (Iron Man was released in May 2008)! To celebrate we’re having a good old fashioned nostalgic REC-A-THON.

How It Works: You can pick and choose from the handy meme format below, or use all of it, or just get commenting with recs of ALL THINGS MARVEL. Rec your favourite Clint/Natasha and Clint & Natasha works, branch out and rec things that focus on other characters, pairings, and teams in the MCU, or go really wild and even rec things from the comics. It's party time and everyone's invited!

This is a spoiler free zone so NO INFINITY WAR recs, mentions, or anything. We are here for the last ten years of Marvel and a mountain of nostalgia :)

I've been searching everywhere for a fic I had read months ago, slightly AU. Clint had been... haunted? infested? with... something, and then Natasha caught it too, and it was like an inward voice calling them somewhere far away and telling them to infest the others too. I remember a scene where Steve or Thor sees something moving under Clint's skin and they freak out. And nothing else. *sighs* I should bookmark stuff more often, but then I'm afraid I'm gonna get lost in my own bookmarks...

Ok so I just read all your recs and wooooow there are some good ones here!! we clean up and now it's time to learn was really neat and fun, great to see the defenders interacting w my faves, and the clintasha was great - I don't usually like domestic clintasha, but this author really knew what they were doing and captured their dynamic well; like, if they were domestic, it would be like this.

Also, I have to give you mad props for The Fundamental Principles of Human Behavior. Excellent nostalgia-inducing overview of the MCU up to this point, everything perfectly in-character, great interaction, some fun ships (I've never read any Maria/Sam and it was really cute!), and I loved that you tied in Gamora there at the end. That's definitely one I'll be going back to to read again. Thanks for the recs!!!

Gateway Drug - rec one of the first Marvel fanfics you can remember reading: hmm don't remember exactly so I'm going to rec my oldest bookmark, between the shadow and the soul by viverella. I definitely read stuff before this, because I know I started writing my first fic ever in June of 2014 and this bookmark is July, but oh well, it's lovely :)

Golden Oldie - rec something from phase one/two/three: well I didn't even really enter the fandom until phase two (so I'm looking forward to some older recs!!) so I'll go with the observable universe by sarea okelani, which I assume everyone has read at this point but I just really love.

Master Assassins - go on, rec some Clint/Nat or Clint & Nat: HOW CAN I CHOOSE??? I literally don't think I can, and half of my favorites were written by one of y'all, anyway. I'll say the "somewhere you can't find me" universe by nyxetoile and olivesawl because that's where I learned that fic universes are huge and unending and can go anywhere you want

Marvel Rec - branch out and rec from any Marvel film, tv show,comic, crossover… any characters or pairing: Okay I have to plug Steve/Maria with deep as the scar that's under my skin by tielan--she's the reason the ship hasn't gone up in smoke, and honestly they're so great together and fun to write. Also, my best friend and I are self-appointed heralds of Steve/Matt Murdock (Daredevil, if you're not familiar), also referred to (by us) as "Daremerica." Okay I just finished reading these and first off thank you SO much for recing the observable universe - you said most people had probably read it by now, but I had not, and I enjoyed the heck out of it. I LOVE third-person perspective fics, plus their relationship was just so adorable and perfecly well-paced. That's certainly one I plan to read again.
Also - counterfeit and counterpart?? like?? wow?? thank you so much for hooking me on steve/maria, which I've never really gotten into before but hoo boy this could be the start of something. I've never read any of frea_o's stuff and she writes a darn good Natasha.
The only link I haven't clicked yet is and at night be warm. When I saw you reced it I swear I melted inside, because I've read it before and even just seeing the title brings a little smile to my face and makes the feels swirl in my chest. It is just so beautiful and soft and sweet and perfect and just angsty enough. I saved it to read last because it's actually one of the best fics I've read and a hundred and ten percent worth the re-read. So I'm going to emotionally prepare myself and go read it now. Thanks for sharing the clintasha love. :)

His Dream Girl by Luvya2103. Not the first one I read but the first one I LOVED. Basically when Clint is assigned to kill Black Widow, he recognizes her as someone he's met before. It's really cute and kinda fairytale-ish.

Golden Oldie - rec something from phase one/two/three:

Far, by weepingangelofnewnewyork. You can find it in her oneshot collection, Of Arrows And Arachnids. It takes place during Thor and Iron Man 2 (Clint in New Mexico, Nat in Malibu) and consists of voicemail messages they leave each other. It's kind of adorable.

Master Assassins - go on, rec some Clint/Nat or Clint & Nat:

Yikes, okay... I'll go with The Demon Who Joined Them for Dinner, by TortiQuercu. That's one I just keep on going back to. Clint is supposed to be Nat's extraction, but things don't go exactly as planned.

Huntingbird, A History by Sanctuaria. A really good fic that develops Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter's relationship from the time they first meet to when they see each other again in Season 2. I'm in the middle of re-reading it right now, it's a classic.

I'm big on whump, so I'll recommend Riot by Strawberrywaltz. Clint is poisoned and has some pretty horrific symptoms. Very well done.

There was a really good highschool AU I read once on ffnet. I think it got deleted because I can't find it, but maybe it exists on another platform? I think it was called Framed, basically Loki frames the Avengers for some vandalism at school and they all have to do detention together. Nat's a foreign exchange student and very closed off, and through the course of the story, she begins to slowly open up to Clint. Anyone happen to know if it's on ao3 or something?

Gateway Drug - rec one of the first Marvel fanfics you can remember reading: Oh, this goes back to the winter after Iron Man came out, so it's more Marvel than MCU, but it started myavalanche slide into the fandom: When the Lights Go On Again. Clint is the really young, early 616 version, which you don't see very often, especially now, post-Fraction/Aja. (This is technically Steve/Tony, but there's so much else going on that it's just one beat among everything else.)

Golden Oldie - rec something from phase one/two/three: The Last Great Bordertown Hotel, Clint/Nat backstory from the summer after The Avengers

Master Assassins - go on, rec some Clint/Nat or Clint & Nat: So, this is the best Clint & Nat, ever: Chance. Novel-length and perfectly detailed.

Gateway Drug - rec one of the first Marvel fanfics you can remember reading:
I got into Marvel competitively late, when my roommate started watching AOS Season 2 while I was in the room. The first marvel fic I remember reading (and it’s the first work in my bookmarks) is White by the_irish_mayhem. I honestly think this fic is what cemented my love for Clint and Natasha and whenever chapters are posted in the sequel I literally scream.

Golden Oldie - rec something from phase one/two/three:
The Alliterative Domiciles series by Vera_DragonMuse. Nice, soft, fluffy Avengers as a family fic series (that also made me ship Bruce/Pepper/Tony like nobody’s business)

Not so much a request, but to this /day/ I see people recing workerbees (sp?) ClintNat fics as being like, formative to the community and I never got to read them. I managed to pull one or two off of Wayback Machine at least.

There was also one posted….circa 2014? Where Nat was undercover and Clint played her motorcycle riding bad boy boyfriend for the cover. At one point they “broke up” so she could date the mark?

The Workerbee/Bob5 fic you're looking for is called "Five times Clint and Natasha made out like teenagers because reasons" and it was first posted/linked on this comm when it was on LJ, and I was very new to the fandom, and we all squeed when a new chapter was posted. It was followed by "Off the Grid" and "The equilibrists" and I *cough* may have them downloaded.

Arms and The Man by sam_storyteller / copperbadge which is Steve/Tony. Summary: His best friend keeps cockblocking him, his relationship guru is a computer, and he might be gay. The future is very complicated.

copperbadge is one of my fav authors that keeps writing in fandoms I like *grins* and I recommend a browse of their AO3, but while I'm here I'm going to point you at Leader Of The Free World (Clint Barton's presidential campaign started as a joke. It didn't end that way, except for Steve), If I Don't Wake Up Dead (Clint Barton -- subby, ex-carnie white trash, spy -- isn't the kind of guy Captain America goes for. Nobody informed Captain America of this.), and The Immortal Hawkeye (Clint's a little older than he looks, and his DNA has a few surprises in store, too.)

THORAZINE FOR THE LADY, KNIVES FOR THE GENTLEMAN (Clint/Natsha first meeting) and 10 THINGS PEPPER KNOWS ABOUT NATASHA (AND ONE THING NATASHA KNOWS ABOUT PEPPER) by okayophelia were some of my first Clint/Natasha and Natasha stories.

And in my AO3 bookmarks it looks like I also started following scifigrl47 pretty early, who never fails to make me smile and always delivers happy endings. I've recent re-read her Tales of the Bots series and am now once more making my way through another of her series In Which Tony Stark Builds Himself Some Friends (But His Family Was Assigned by Nick Fury).
