ATTF: Let's Show Joss Where To Go -- Scripts, Clips and Cameos
Hey there, dearest members of the Bar of Bars! I took the day off to do some writing (!), and now that I finished cleaning up the mess the enormous, fat raccoon that lives down the lane made of our garbage last night (yes, the can WAS secured ...) I thought I’d post today’s issue a bit early. Here’s hoping this will give our friends on other continents than the one I'm on a sporting chance to play while it’s still Friday there, too!
Right. Topic.
We just had another great Promptathon – but I just know that your creativity hasn’t been exhausted yet. Far from it! So I thought we could tap into it once more. Like this:
We’ve all been squeeing over glimpses of That Necklace in the stills from Cap2, the trailers for Thor2, and wondering what the MCU future holds for Hawkeye and Black Widow. If you’re anything like me, you’re hoping for a cameo, a post-credit clip, or a little snippet of script that might put some wind into the sails of our 'ship. Or you’re just a wee bitticked off concerned that there is still no sign of the Hawkeye/Black Widow movie they should be making, instead of in addition to the ones that are in the pipeline.
So here’s your challenge:
Give us your pitch, write up your script outline, your single-scene story board, your trailer – for the cameo, the one-minute clip, the extra-feature short, or the whole Big Damn Movie you’d like to see, starring our favourite assassins and their assorted BAMFy friends.
If you’re muse is on vaca today, there are some fantastically talented artists and vidders out there who’ve already done movie posters, clips and trailers – so rec away!
Just to get you going -- a while ago,
sunny_serenity posted this lovely piece of inspiration:

Things to remember:
1) Always label NSFW (Not Safe For Work) stuff in the title and post under a cut.
2) Fic and artwork needs to have a rating and warnings (or you can say that you’ve chosen not to use warnings).
3) For people with annoying internet connections, say in the title if a comment is graphic/images/gif-heavy and post picspams under a cut.
4) Have a damn good time! (Because if that’s not happening then this post has clearly failed.)
And … remember to have fun!!!

Black Widow lets herself into her apartment, still looking slightly disheveled after the final battle. An arrow whizzes by her head, embedding itself in the doorframe. She doesn't blink, but turns around, a smile in her eyes.
"So you're back. Have a good time with your mission?"
Camera focuses on a slightly bandaged Hawkeye, still in his tac gear, unfurling himself from the couch.
"The bots were a bit of a pain, getting smarter as you shot them. I think Stark may be building something to take them out once and for all.”
He walks up to her, invades her personal space.
“Heard you were busy, too."
Natasha shrugs.
"Yeah, but we managed. Hey, I got to slug Sitwell. In time, he may come to forgive me."
"Maybe not quite yet. He told me about you kissing Cap. Anything I should know about?"
She puts her arms around his neck, cards her fingers through his hair.
"Pure self-preservation. Although you were gone for a long time."
He looks down at her neckline, reaches for it with a calloused finger.
"Nice necklace."
They look deeply into each other's eyes, as the window behind them lights up in an ominous orange.
Screen fades to black, followed by the announcement:
"Avengers 2: The Age of Ultron. Coming May 2015 to a theatre near you!"

But I have been thinking lately that in addition to an end-scene...what if there is a great flashback scene where Natasha is talking about her past to Steve, and there is a lovely little montage, and of course "SHIELD sent their best to take me down." And clip of you-know-who.
Also I was thinking with the kiss scene...what if Natasha had a series of kisses throughout the movie? With Steve, with Bucky, with Sitwell (Lol, you know, for some sorta reason)...and then at the end of the movie, Steve is saying something profound and montage-y, and there is a clip of Natasha with a genuine smile on her face and a true, loving kiss with Clint.

That would do nicely! :-)

A thing I have realised: when the Master Assassin film happens fandom believes it will be called Budapest. A thing I suspect: it really, really won't be, if only because Joss Whedon will find this out and, being him, do something entirely different *grins*. What would you call a Master Assassin film?
Re: i come bringing recs
Look forward to seeing those vids -- three of them I haven't seen yet. Where do you keep/catalogue all this stuff??? I am totally in awe.
Re: i come bringing recs
My bookmarks are insane. No, really. I'm trying to organise them, but it's slow going. I used to have masses for older fandoms too, but when I got a new laptop about two-ish years ago my links didn't switch over, so I lost A LOT. Avengers I only started on after the new laptop though, so those are safe :) I need to collate my few links on AO3, my bookmarks, and organise them somehow rather than just having lists, meh. I kept meaning to do a big rec list, but too intimidating :S
Re: i come bringing recs
(If I were to get to name it, I'd probably give it some wanky arty sounding title. My head immediately came up with Ribbons and Leaves for no apparent reason. Though Different Call seems like a plausible alternative too)
Re: i come bringing recs
Yeah, I guess it depends on the mood - noir, Russian spy film, action-adventure, superhero film... I love that with these two superhero film isn't the first thing that springs to mind or really the theme film of choice. Different Call, can see that one, yes! Ribbons and Leaves...makes me thing of ballet slippers and leaves falling from trees where Clint is pracisting.

As far as we can tell from what we've been given, Clint and Natasha have none of this. No mention has been made of the Red Room (though this might change with Cap 2), and we know that Clint doesn't have anything like this in his backstory. So, the type of film they would get would be a spy story, rather than a superhero story in the traditional sense. *shrugs* Well, that's what me and my friend concluded. It's one of the reason that I'm holding out for a Captain Marvel film over a Black Widow film (and also I saw a really cool idea for a Captain Marvel film which involved her and Spider-Woman, which I really want to see. Though Captain Marvel has to be Katee Sackhoff. I accept not substitutes.)
HAVING SAID THAT; my Black Widow and Hawkeye films would go as follows.
It would be a trilogy, obviously. :P
FIRST FILM: Hawkeye.
You'd get his entire backstory, abusive father, becoming orphaned, running away to the circus (cos this is the best part, let’s not lie), Barney. Either you'd have this as a war story or a more traditional origins story, because you'd either end it with him being recruited into SHIELD after the events of the circus/the Swordsman/Trick Shot OR you'd have the circus bit being quite short and the majority of the story being set in the army, being recruited and then, at the very end, being handed the file about the termination of the Black Widow. Despite the fact that this would condense the circus storyline (which I love) quite a bit, I am very attached to the ending being Clint receiving Natasha's file.
SECOND FILM: Black Widow.
A more traditional origin story, focussed mainly on her work in the Red Room – missions and stuff, but then also then her slowly trying to get out of it. Lots of women so Yelena Belova can be the main antagonist? Something like that anyway. Apart from, near the end, she starts to get followed by someone. Obviously that’s Clint, but you don’t see him until the very very end. A sort of, she runs round the corner and finds an arrow to her heart BOOM END kind of thing. Seriously, he’s in it almost not at all. It’s Natasha’s story.
THIRD FILM: Budapest. Obviously.
With the pre-title sequence being one of those montages showing Natasha being brought in and her slow acclimatisation to SHIELD. It doesn’t even have to have a romantic subplot. In fact, I’d totally prefer it if it didn’t. It’ll be like the Avengers, though maybe with a little more UST. Or just buddycop banter. Though I don’t know what actually happens in Budapest. That’s for someone else to decide.
As for an end sequence for Cap 2, I want Natasha to be doing her post-op paperwork, and getting really pissed and bored and then an arrow lands on her desk. And she smiles, and turns and says “so psych finally let you out then?” and Clint grins and says “looks like. Coffee?” Screen goes black: THE AVENGERS WILL RETURN IN AGE OF ULTRON. MAY 2015.
I HAVE THOUGHTS OKAY? :P

Sorry. Caps Were Necessary. ;-)
The closest I've come to doing circus was in my five-times fic, but it's been bubbling in the back of my mind ... do read

Also, if your muse wants you to write a circus fic, who are you to deny it? ;) (please please please listen to that muse!!!!)

That said, I have ideas!
Snippet/ Cameo
At the end of Cap 2, Natasha getting home and Clint looking up from reading a book on the sofa.
"How was your day at work, honey?" (as an obvious joke, because he knows she's just spent a few days fixing SHIELD and dealing with the Winter Soldier.)
"Same old, same old" Natasha, body relaxing and face lighting up with a genuine smile when she sees Clint.
Then Clint says something offhand about the mission he was assigned to, which hints at an important plot point about Avengers 2 or Thor 2.
End scene.
(So pretty much alpha's snippet, now that I've gotten around to reading the other comments)

Movies!
I love Hawkeye, but summer blockbusters need another movie about an American white guy like they need a hole in the head. Needless to say, my pitch is for a Black Widow movie. Or really the ideas behind my pitch, because the pitch itself would be snappier.
The Black Widow's strength is being a spy, so it would be a spy thriller, but it would also have Marvel type elements. When the Black Widow does her job, it's not seen on television or in the newspapers, so essentially it would be a story of her fighting an extremely powerful antagonist/ group, without them realizing until too late. There would be fight scenes, and a boss battle where Natasha outsmarts the superpowered guy or girl, but at the end of the day it would be an intellectual battle.
And the reason why the other Avengers don't show up? 1) It's a sensitive situation, and having to go onto television and newspapers would be disastrous for a gazillon different reasons. 2) Superpowered baddie has plans in place for each superpowered Avenger, and underestimates normals.
At the end of the day you could introduce some interesting villains and groups from the Marvel universe, plus explore the Black Widow's backstory and MO. If you chose the villain and what plot correctly, it could help build towards whatever arc they're going for in the next Avengers movie.

As for the similarity of our cameo dreams - great minds think alike! Let's hope Joss Whedon is of the same calibre of greatness as we are ... ;-)
ATTF
Title: Behind the S.H.I.E.L.D.: Budapest
Set up: In my world, Hawkeye and Black Widow are already top agents at SHIELD when the Budapest incident occurs. They are clearly dispatched there on a mission as Strike Team Delta.
Footage: We see quick snippets of surveillance footage of the team in tactical scenarios, hand-to-hand combat, shoot-outs, and lots of running and ducking in the streets. We see them end up in a crowded marketplace with "the bad guys" frantically looking around for them. They covertly acquire local attire and throw it over themselves to blend in. As the hostiles move in, Black Widow looks to prepare for a showdown when Hawkeye grabs her and spins her around, meeting her eyes. He brings his head down for a show-stopping kiss. They remain lip-locked while the hostiles glance right over them and continue out of the marketplace. When the coast is clear, they pull apart and give each other a deep look, nod, and then take off in the opposite direction.
Soooooo, in Cap 2: Cap and Black Widow find themselves in a crowded mall and while the hostiles are closing in, Widow brings Cap in for a big kiss. Again, the hostiles glance over them and move out. When they part, Cap, of course, looks a little star-struck. Widow nods to him and turns back around to keep moving. But, you see a ghost of a smile on her face and hear her barely whisper, "Now I get it. That's how HE remembered Budapest."

That being said I think that they are wrong and that there is an audience for a movie for these two What I want more than anything is a movie about Hawkeye bringing in the Black Widow. I think they are going to cover her origins in Cap 2, or else I would prefer that story. I think you could have a spy thriller of them playing games with each other and going back and forth. The latest Bond movies have shown that people do have a desire for smart spy movies with emotional depth. Skyfall and Casino Royale breathed life into that franchise. While the Marvel franchises are anything but failing, I think that adding a slightly darker, less big explosions movie could be very well received.

And the reason we don't female led action movies isn't Electra and Catwoman, it's a complete lack of will from producers and the like. When you have mainly men telling stories, men are going to be the main characters. It's clear that Electra and Catwoman didn't make money because they were bad movies, as Green Lantern and most of the forgettable action movies of this summer didn't make money. Catwoman and Electra are an excuse, not a reason.
