ATTF: Let's Show Joss Where To Go -- Scripts, Clips and Cameos
Hey there, dearest members of the Bar of Bars!  I took the day off to do some writing (!), and now that I finished cleaning up the mess the enormous, fat raccoon that lives down the lane made of our garbage last night (yes, the can WAS secured ...) I thought I’d post today’s issue a bit early.  Here’s hoping this will give our friends on other continents than the one I'm on a sporting chance to play while it’s still Friday there, too!

Right.  Topic.

We just had another great Promptathon – but I just know that your creativity hasn’t been exhausted yet.  Far from it!  So I thought we could tap into it once more.  Like this:

We’ve all been squeeing over glimpses of That Necklace in the stills from Cap2, the trailers for Thor2, and wondering what the MCU future holds for Hawkeye and Black Widow.  If you’re anything like me, you’re hoping for a cameo, a post-credit clip, or a little snippet of script that might put some wind into the sails of our 'ship.  Or you’re just a wee bit ticked off concerned that there is still no sign of the Hawkeye/Black Widow movie they should be making, instead of in addition to the ones that are in the pipeline.

So here’s your challenge:

Give us your pitch, write up your script outline, your single-scene story board, your trailer – for the cameo, the one-minute clip, the extra-feature short, or the whole Big Damn Movie you’d like to see, starring our favourite assassins and their assorted BAMFy friends.

If you’re muse is on vaca today, there are some fantastically talented artists and vidders out there who’ve already done movie posters, clips and trailers – so rec away!

Just to get you going -- a while ago, [livejournal.com profile] sunny_serenity posted this lovely piece of inspiration:

Things to remember:
1) Always label NSFW (Not Safe For Work) stuff in the title and post under a cut.
2) Fic and artwork needs to have a rating and warnings (or you can say that you’ve chosen not to use warnings).
3) For people with annoying internet connections, say in the title if a comment is graphic/images/gif-heavy and post picspams under a cut.
4) Have a damn good time! (Because if that’s not happening then this post has clearly failed.)

And … remember to have fun!!!

I really wish they would get their own movies but I also doubt it's going to happen anytime soon. I think that unfortunately there is little support in the industry in letting a female lead an action movie, or even be a costar. We can thank the crap that was Electra and Catwoman for that. I think Joss Whedon has pointed out numerous times that previous tries at it were bad and so there isn't interest in it which is shame. Also, I think that Jeremy's foray into the Bourne series didn't inspire confidence in his ability to be a box office smash on his own. The movie performed well and yes it got a sequel, but those numbers wouldn't have pleased Marvel and so I'm not sure if they have faith in him to carry his own movie either.

That being said I think that they are wrong and that there is an audience for a movie for these two What I want more than anything is a movie about Hawkeye bringing in the Black Widow. I think they are going to cover her origins in Cap 2, or else I would prefer that story. I think you could have a spy thriller of them playing games with each other and going back and forth. The latest Bond movies have shown that people do have a desire for smart spy movies with emotional depth. Skyfall and Casino Royale breathed life into that franchise. While the Marvel franchises are anything but failing, I think that adding a slightly darker, less big explosions movie could be very well received.

I (regretfully) think you are probably right about industry perceptions about JR -- although two $200m+ movies under his belt as headliner should be helping. He would need a strong script to carry it off, and a strong co-star (SJ hasn't yet headlined her own film either, but together they might just pull it off -- let's see how Cap2 does with her as co-lead).

If they did a smaller scale movie (less effects, for example), they would be able to make a profit with smaller numbers...but like you say, I don't know if Marvel will want to go there. It would be nice if it happened anyway. I know Black Widow and Hawkeye are supposed to have nice significant parts in Avengers 2 (although I can't imagine them being too great, because of everyone else in the film too), and in my daydream, the next movie after that would be their film. I don't see it but it would be amazing. I know they were talking about a BW movie at some point, don't talk and not deliver Marvel!

But you have to remember, neither Chris Hemsworth or Chris Evans were stars before their solo movies. And even now they have less name recognition than Scarlet Johansson.

And the reason we don't female led action movies isn't Electra and Catwoman, it's a complete lack of will from producers and the like. When you have mainly men telling stories, men are going to be the main characters. It's clear that Electra and Catwoman didn't make money because they were bad movies, as Green Lantern and most of the forgettable action movies of this summer didn't make money. Catwoman and Electra are an excuse, not a reason.
