Summary: Winter of 1988, in the midst of the collapsing Soviet Union, a four-year-old, red-haired girl dies in a house fire with the rest of her family. Eighteen years later, Natasha Romanoff visits the grave. The brief first life of Nataliya Romanova.

Author's Note: I've been sitting on this story half-fished for a while and, as I haven't been very active in the fandom lately, I figured it was about time I just got the thing on paper and shoved it out into the world to see whether or not it can fend for itself.
