Hi All,

Just a heads up that we've updated our welcome post and community rules, to make them shorter, clearer, and to include a note on AI.

Our community rules apply to all members of our community and to anyone who takes part in any of our community events. If you have any questions, if you're unsure about anything, or if you have any problems please message a mod. Your mods are [personal profile] inkvoices and [personal profile] gsparkle (AKA quidnunc-life), with [personal profile] franztastisch (AKA CloudAtlas) helping out. We're available accross all platforms that the comm operates on, but the fastest way to get a reply is to message us on Discord. Alternatively, leave a comment in a ‘questions/general comments’ thread at the top of event posts on Dreamwidth.

Thank you!

Your Mods

With the Black Widow movie due out soon, please be aware that this dreamwidth community is a spoiler free zone until annouced otherwise. If you want to post links to fic, fan art, etc. that contains spoilers you can do, but please place them behind a cut in the post with a very clear warning above the cut. We may do a post for spoiler-free discussion and one for discussion with spoilers, if people would like to chat here rather than/as well as on the discord?

The discord communidt currently has a 'spoiler' channel for discussions.

On the community tumblr anything suspected to contain spoilers will be tagged as ‘#Black Widow spoilers’ or ‘#Black Widow movie spoilers’. I’m trying to avoid spoilers myself, so I’m erring on the side of caution! Movie posters, general excitement, etc. will not be tagged. Any gif sets, interviews, speculation, or content that might have spoilers will be tagged, often without me having read/viewed it.

If you have any questions, comments, or feedback please feel free to let us know in the comments! (Otherwise your best bet for contacting a mod at the moment is inkvoices or franztastisch for dreamwidth, [personal profile] inkvoices for tumblr, and gsparkle / #5137 ([profile] quidnunc_life) for discord.)

Hi All,

Just a reminder that you have until Sunday 22 December to complete your Halloween Trick or Treat prompts if you're playing. No pressure if you don't have time :)

The submission date for the Secret Santa Exchange is also coming up in 3 weeks on Sunday 6th December (midnight whatever your time zone). Submission instructions will go up in the next few weeks. In the meantime, if you're looking for a beta reader or would like to volunteer as a beta reader or pinch hitter, please comment on this post you stars.

We will, of course, also have to arrange some New Year fun...

In the wider world wide web, Marvel Big Bang 2020 and Marvel Big bang Reverse 2020 fanworks go live in November and December for your entertainment, and if you'd like to do more creating Hawkeye (comics) is an option in this year's Yuletide (along with a whole heap of other fandoms).

Comment with anything else you think we'd like to hear about, or comment if you just want to have a chat :)

After some chat on the [community profile] be_compromised Discord Server (apparently nicknamed the Best Bar Backroom, which I LOVE as a name <3) and some issues I had creating the masterlist for the AU Exchange (find it here), I have decided it would be useful to have a post that collates people's usernames across various platforms. This is primarily for the mods' benefit (and when I say mods, I mean me really - y'all have very different Tumblr handles and it's confusing, my dudes!) but also so you can find each other across platforms.

The main platforms required are DreamWidth, AO3, Tumblr and Discord, those being the main platforms over which [community profile] be_compromised operates (and by required I don't mean you need to be active on those platforms, only that if you are, I'd really like to know your handle). However, if you would like to share your Twitter handle, or your LiveJournal account or... I dunno, your DeviantArt, there is space for you to share those usernames too.

Please copy the following into a comment and then fill in as many of the blanks that apply to you. Anonymous commenting is, as usual, allowed here, so having a DW is not necessary.

I especially ask that people who take part in [community profile] be_compromised events (e.g. Promptathon, Exchanges and/or Secret Santa) please, please fill this out so I can correctly credit your work when posting both here and on Tumblr. This is especially relevant if you're new to the comm, or have signed up to events through your AO3 account without having a DW at all.

Please do not reply to any of the comments on this post, other than the top QUESTIONS AND COMMENTS one posted by me. Comments on DreamWidth can be edited, but only when no one has replied to them. Not replying to these comments means that people can come back and edit or add information as and when it changes. Also, please be aware that putting an at symbol (@) at the beginning of a username, a default for both Tumblr and Twitter, autocorrects the text to a DreamWidth account.

Hi All, following our last post please see below for an ATTF sign up post:

What is this All The Things Friday of which you speak?
All The Things Friday is a post on Friday with something fun that lasts until the following week or until it runs out of steam. It can be a call a discussion or chat, an ask for recs, picspams, meta, thinky thoughts, squee, dance parties, mini challenges, ANYTHING that you would like to see on this comm. You can take a look at any of the tags with 'Friday' in to see the kinds of things that we've gotten up to before. If someone has already used your idea, don't worry; repeats are fine, because there are always new fics to rec and ideas to be had :)

Who can host?
Anyone! And if you have suggestions but don't want to host you're very welcome to comment with suggestions for other people/the mods to use.

What does hosting mean?
Being the person that writes the party post and then joining in with the fun that happens. It's not writing War and Peace, just something to get things going, like questions to get people thinking about meta or a theme for fic recs.

It's moderating something?
No, don't worry. If you have any problems throw it to the mods as normal. It's more like chairing a gathering, being the DJ, yelling for drinks all around. It's as much or as little work as you want it to be.

How does hosting work?
You write a post about what kind of Friday you want it to be, opening up the floor, and you post it at any time on a Friday. For people worried about timezones, really, any time. At the bottom of your Friday post we'd like you to copy and paste this reminder:

Want to get involved? Comment with what Friday/s you'd like to do and what you'd like to do and we'll add you to the sign up list below. Check in to see what upcoming Fridays we have and to suggest more ideas. Get excited!

Hi folks, it's a strange old world we live in at the moment. We hope this community be a bit of sunshine for you lovely lot - with support, a morale boost, and fandom fun. We'd already had a chat about fun things to do as a community and this seems like a very good time to get started!

TOMORROW: watch this space for a recathon launch! This will run for 2 weeks.

SHORTLY AFTER: one of the most popular suggestions was a remix exchange, so there'll be a post asking for your vote/input on how we run that with sign ups following after.

AFTER: Once remix exchange is finished we can sail into another one (AU was also popular?) or a mini promptathon or another idea - check out this post and comment below with other ideas, ideas you like, and any thinky thoughts!

ONGOING: running alongside all of this we'll also restarting weekly ATTFs (All The Things Friday) - a chat/game/challenge started on a Friday that lasts until the following week. For a bit of fun and a natter :) ANYONE can host an ATTF. GO HERE to sign up, so we can avoid any clashes, or to make suggestions.

Comments are also open in this post for general chat, fun links, and virtual hugs.

All the best and take care,
your be_compromised mods x

Hi All, we hope you enjoyed the Valetine's Mini Promptathon! The next big events we have in the calendar are THE BLACK WIDOW FILM in May, the comm annibirthday also in May, and the big summer promptathon. Until then the comm is looking a little quiet so we're asking you: what would you like to see here in the next few months?

Past events have included an AU exchange, a hometown fic challenge, a remix exchange, last year's Fix-It Fest, and smaller events like recathons, unfinished fic and writing chats, three sentence prompts... and as ever we're open to new ideas!

Comment with what you'd like to see. Comment to other people's ideas so we can see what's popular. Comment with things from the wider world wide web relevant to our interests. Help us to keep our little corner of the fandom lively!

Thanks as always to everyone posting recs, fics, art, and fun things here and to the tumblr. Sharing is caring and keeps the fandom going :)

Hello and welcome to [community profile] be_compromised!

We're a community for fans of Clint Barton AKA Hawkeye and Natasha Romanov AKA Black Widow both as individuals and together, as well as the broader Marvel Universe (MCU, comics, TV, and games), which started on LiveJournal in 2012 and migrated over to Dreamwidth in May 2017. We have a corresponding Tumblr, as well as a Discord server (link on how to join) which is where the majority of fannish interaction happens now. As a result, this DW account serves primarily as the hub for community events and exchanges, as well as a record of important announcements. All types of fanwork are welcome here but, as AO3 has largely overtaken DW as the place to host fanworks, we primarily use the Community: be_compromised tag on AO3 as a way to collate fics written for and by the community. There is also our masterlist tag for comm events.

If you would like to join us here at [community profile] be_compromised, welcome! We're excited to meet you. We just ask that you adhere to the rules below, which are the result of policy discussions between mods and community members over the years. They apply to both community members and anyone who takes part in any of our community events.

Also, if you do decide to join our community or even just take part in community exchanges, please add your name to the Community Username Database. It will help the mods immensely, and ensures you are correctly credited when crossposting masterlists across platforms.

Rules and Handy Links behind the cut... )

We are currently in the process of importing the community to Dreamwidth (where it is also be_compromised) as on the discussion post people seemed in favour of at least backing up the community there. Please be aware that the queues for importing are currently long and then there will be coding that will need amending. We are also still dicussing our options, as in how we're actually going to use the Dreamwidth side. So please don't use the Dreamwidth community for anything just yet! Although feel free to join it as a memember :)

In the meantime, we'd still like to hear your thoughts on this discussion post. We're listening and we're using this to discuss as mods what direction the comm takes.

Thank you!

For those who might not be aware, since the start of 2017 there have been changes to Livejournal with servers moving to Russia and, most recently, a change in LJ Terms & Conditions.  We would like to share with you some of our thoughts on this and then we would like the community's input, with a view to possibly making some changes. Your mods may be manning the bar, but without all of YOU there is no community. Your views are important so please do comment after reading. Thank you.

Please be aware that your mods are nowhere near the likes of Tony Stark in technical knowledge and futurist thinking, however: never asumme that information you post on any social media is entirely private. Social media companies hold the rights to your information (see: instagram owns all your photos, see: you can never completely delete your Facebook). In addition, unless you are very, very good there will be someone better than you who can crack your security; we can take precautions but we are not immune. This has not changed with LJ. It's just that instead of LJ being in Trump's America it's now in Putin's Russia. Your opinions on those administrations and on your online rights associated with companies located within them are your own.

Our Position: Your mods are not panicking, but we are wary of these changes. They do not at first glance impact the main activities of this community - a main change in the T&Cs concerns politics for example - but with things such as this and Russia's LBGTQ rights record we are wary. We also, of course, have to take into account our members. If the majority of you move elsewhere then it would make sense for the community to follow the community.

Dreamwidth: An alternate social media site that we could host the community on is Dreamwidth. It is relatively easy to import a community there from LJ. There are pros and cons to Dreamwidth vs LJ and these are different for personal journals and communities. KEY POINTS: we could import the entire community including all of the comments to Dreamwidth. You can't crosspost on communities and future comments would not crosspost, although we could re-import the community on a semi-regular basis. Dreamwidth has an OpenID log in system so that you can comment there using an LJ, and other, online identities - you do NOT have to have a personal Dreamwidth account to post to a Dreamwidth community (although it makes it easier). None of your mods are familiar with Dreamwidth and there may be stumbling blocks that we wouldn't know about until we trip over them.

Options under consideration:

1) We keep the community on LJ. We back it up on Dreamwidth and re-import to Dreamwidth on a semi-regular basis to keep it current. We do not moderate or use the Dreamwidth version. It remains inactive unless needed in the future.

2) We keep the LJ community AND have a Dreamwidth community. How this would work: we re-import semi-regularly to Dreamwidth, we comment on both, we moderate both, we keep both active. Dreamwidth would have BOTH LJ and Dreamwidth posts. LJ would just have LJ posts. Dreamwidth would (hopefully) end up with the comments from both. LJ would just have LJ comments.

3) We move the community to Dreamwidth and maintain a presence on LJ. Dreamwidth would be the main community but monthly/ on a semi-regular basis we would post a summary post to LJ with links to Dreamwidth posts and activity, so people on LJ would know what was going on and could either comment/chat on LJ or use OpenID to comment on Dreamwidth.

4) We move to Dreamwidth completely. We archive the LJ version and don't use it at all.

For easy commenting you can copy and paste the following. Or you can just comment with whatever you think about all of this. The important thing is that we have a discussion as a community, so please do comment. There is no deadline for this post and we open to changing our minds (again) in the future. However, if you could comment before MONDAY 17th APRIL that would be helpful.

PLEASE NOTE: please be respectful of other people's opinions, emotions, and countries. Think debate, not argument. Thank you.

COMNUNITY BANNER: this one is from [livejournal.com profile] allisnow, an oldie but a goodie for our favorite assassins. If you’d like to make a banner for the top of our community please do – we love having new banners every month! Send them in to be_compromised@hotmail.com

A couple of things to note:
1) Everyone is invited to play, seriously, everyone!
2) Banners must be safe for work.
3) Banners must have a width of 800 and a height of 350 and preferably be a png or jpg file.
4) When new films etc come out please don’t use images that could be spoilers until general DVD release. (If you want to use something and you're not sure if it counts as a spoiler or not, PM me or email.)

CIVIL WAR: has now been out everywhere for over a month at least, and so we're lifting our spoiler ban -- that is to say, you are free to post all the things! Please do continue to be courteous in your discussions, but anyone who wants to talk about the film no longer has to use the discussion post to do so.

ALL THE THINGS FRIDAY: You can sign up to host, suggest ideas, and see what’s coming up at our sign up post. No hosts on the post means not ATTF, so do come and play – we have spaces for most of the summer!

IN OTHER NEWS: THE BIG SUMMER PROMPTATHON is fast approaching -- can you feel the excitement?

Speaking of summer, how's everyone's going so far? Anything you've come across that's super wonderful or that you want to share with the comm? Have you found super awesome post Civil War fic or meta or anything else? Feel free to share in the comments!

Hi All, we're looking at kickstarting All The Things Fridays again, which means we're once again on the look out for volunteers to host our Friday parties!

What is this All The Things Friday of which you speak?
All The Things Friday is bascially a day where we have a post that kicks off a party. That post can be a call out for recs, discussion, picspams, meta, thinky thoughts, squee, dance parties, mini challenges, ANYTHING that you would like to see on this comm. You can take a look at any of the tags with 'Friday' in to see the kinds of things that we've gotten up to before. Although if someone has already used your idea, don't worry; repeats are fine, because there are always new fics to rec and ideas had :)

Who can host?
Anyone. You can host on your own, or as a team, or with a mod. If you have suggestions but don't want to host you can comment with suggestions, and if you're not sure about hosting you can chat about ideas in the comments.

For people worried about timezones, really, any time (we tend to party on into the weekend anyway). At the bottom of your Friday post we'd like you to copy and paste this:

Want to get involved? Comment with what Friday you'd like to do and what you'd like to do and we'll add you to the sign up list below. Check in to see what upcoming Fridays we have and to suggest more ideas. Get excited!

Hello, best and brightest bar! Our ATTF for today is something fun and a little different, so get ready...because your mods are super excited and happy to announce the first CLINT/NATASHA AU EXCHANGE!

What is an AU?

An AU (alternate universe/alternate reality) is a fic trope in which canonical facts, settings, circumstances or characterizations are deliberately changed. AUs can be written in a variety of ways, from changing the outcome of a story, to keeping characterizations but changing the setting, to putting your characters in a different situation completely. You wanna write Clint/Nat in a world where AoU never happened? Go for it! You want to write Clint/Nat as owners of a saloon in the early 20th century, where maybe Laura shows up for kicks? Go for that, too! The sky's the limit in what you can explore.

How This Works:

Sometime tomorrow, we'll open a sign-up post with screened comments (don't worry, there will be a form for you to fill out, as usual.) We'll then list all the sign-ups as anon in another post with screened comments, and we'll ask everyone pick no more than three requests that they'd like to be matched with, in order of preference. We apologize if this process sounds slightly complicated, but since AU requests tend to be specific and there are a lot of varying opinions about the state of our assassins post-AoU, we want to make sure everyone who decides to participate gets matched with something that they'd be comfortable writing about.

Fics should be a minimum of 1000 words. Also, since this isn't an anon exchange, feel free to talk about your assignments/ideas if you'd like.

As per usual, please remember that the
normal comm rules apply.

**AS A REFRESHER, we invite you to remind yourself of our post AoU stance. Any questions, PM us!**

Dates:

Sign-ups will open tomorrow, June 6 and stay open until Thursday, June 11 at midnight ET. The list of choices will be posted on the comm Friday, June 12 and you will have until Wednesday, June 17 to comment with your preferences. We will send out matching by Sunday, June 21.

Posting:

Fics will be due last week of July, and we'll provide more information on specific dates as we get closer. We'll also be posting a sign-up sheet mid-July for posting dates. Choose your date and then post your fic to the community (and AO3, or wherever else!) at that time!

Feel free to use this post to squee, ask questions, share ideas or even start writing about things that you might want to explore. This should be a really fun way to get your brains working for promptathon, among other things. :) Have fun!
