The deadline for Secret Santa 2022 is on MIDNIGHT SUNDAY 11 DECEMBER (that's midnight in whatever time zone you live in) so here's some REALLY IMPORTANT INFORMATION THAT YOU REALLY NEED TO READ aka your three step guide to submitting your Secret Santa gift. Paying attention to this post will make the lives of you, your mods, and any pinch hitters so very much easier.

If you have any questions at all about anything please just ask, in the comments or ask inkvoices or franztastisch. There will be a questions thread at the top of the post where we will unscreen comments to reply, otherwise all comments will be screened.

There are three things you need to do: finish, submit your gift by email, AND comment to this post. Read on to find out how...


STEP ONE: Get It Done

Complete your Secret Santa gift by the deadline of SUNDAY 11th DECEMBER. That's finished, beta read if you want, all polished and ready to be gift-wrapped. And make sure it meets the exchange rules and the community rules - such as: you fic should be at least 1000 words long, should have a rating, and should have warnings, 'no warnings apply', or 'choose not to warn'.


STEP TWO: Submit Email

Send your gifts to be_compromised@hotmail.com as follows:

The subject line of your email should be: (your DW username/online handle) Secret Santa Gift for (giftee name)

Please copy and paste the below into your email and fill it out with the relevant information:

A Gift From: your dreamwidth user name, your tumblr username if you have one for future masterlist purposes
Title:
A Gift For: your giftee’s dreamwidth user name as provided in your assignment email
Rating: you can use AO3 ratings or film ratings
Warnings/Choose Not To Warn: please include any warnings here (which could be the AO3 warnings or anything you think is relevant for your fic), OR please state if no warnings apply you choose not to warn
Summary/Prompt Used:
Author's Note: anyone you want to thank or any additional information, but please keep it anonymous!

Please submit your fic as an email attachment, preferably as a Word doc. (If you would like to use another file type please ask.)

All fics will be posted as submitted, so make sure you’ve formatted for bold, italic, line breaks etc. You can either do this as rich text (ie as if you were using rich text in dreamwidth or AO3; the formatting will look as written) or basic html (ie again as in this function on dreamwidth or AO3). If you have any questions please just ask in the comments :)


STEP THREE: Comment To This Post

PLEASE CAN EVERYONE COMMENT TO THIS POST BY MIDNIGHT SUNDAY 11TH DECEMBER with the following:

My gift is for: (your giftee)
Submission: (I have submitted/I have an extension until X date/this is a submitted pinch hit/this is a pinch hit due on X date)

We will use this to double check that we’ve received your submitted fic (they have occasionally gone astray) or your different deadline, if you have an extension or are a pinch hitter. All comments are screened.

We won’t be making any fic banners this year, but if you would like to make your own banner for your gift or a header image please feel free. Remember to keep them anonymous and please submit a link in your submission email that we can use in dreamwidth.


PROBLEMS: We Know They Happen

If for any reason you think that you won't be able to submit by the deadline of Sunday 11TH December please let us know as soon as possible. We don't yell, we just want to make sure that everyone who participates gets a gift and that everyone taking part in all ways has as few worries as possible.

If you can't submit by the deadline a pinch hitter will automatically be assigned.
- If you then manage to submit by an agreed extended deadline the pinch-hit will become a community gift.
- If you don't submit by the agreed extension we will assume that you have dropped out. In that case, the gift for you will be reassigned as a community gift and your pinch hitter’s fic will become the fic for the person that you were assigned.
- If you haven’t contacted us at all by the 11th December but do still complete a gift, we will not be able to accept late gifts as part of the exchange.

What Happens Next

This is an anonymous gift exchange, so please don’t post or upload your gift elsewhere until after the reveals.

We will post gifts in the week leading up to Christmas (exact dates to be confirmed depending on how many people submit on time), then once all gifts have been posted (which will be before December 25th) there will be a masterlist on dreamwidth and the comm tumblr, reveals of authors, and an AO3 collection for this year’s exchange if you would like to cross post.
