I see this as an AU version of the 'Hawkeye' part of the MCU timeline... or something like that.

"You sure about this?"

"I'd do anything for you, you know that."

Of course, he does, but even Clint is aware there are limits with most people. With Natasha, he probably should have guessed that wasn't ever going to be the case, especially where the two of them were concerned.

"So, on the count of three," he tells her, his arm tightening around her waist. "One, two..."

"Three," she says for him, pushing open the door before either one can change their mind.

Her smile is as fake as his own, but at least she is with him, at his side, having his back, just like always, even as the hordes descend.

"Tell me again why we agreed to this?" he asks her over the horrible din of yelling and the flashing lights going off constantly.

"Because your little protégé begged and neither one of us can resist the patheticness of the Kate Bishop pout," Nat reminds him, "but hey, it could be worse. You could be at this horrendously ritzy party full of Avengers fans without me."

Looking across at her, Clint finds a more genuine smile. "Did I mention that I love you?"

When she smiles back in much the same way, he doesn't need her to say a word, and the evening suddenly seems less of a trial.
