THE HAWKEYE INITIATIVE
"How to fix every Strong Female Character pose in superhero comics: replace the character with Hawkeye doing the same thing."  - gingerhaze

From ponymagus: As far as I’m aware, the Hawkeye as a Strong Female Character thing probably traces back to Jeremy Renner’s
fine booty and predisposition towards Strong Female Character poses:

In conclusion! BUTTS. And also, the Internet is a wonderful place.

But thats.. kind of the whole point. It's showing how ridiculous and hypersexualised all these female superheroes are drawn. You never get men drawn like this. Really, the fact that it is Hawkeye is secondary. The whole point of this was as a showcase of how female characters are treated by many comic artists. I was, in fact, the person who posted about the James Gunn article on here. And I feel the difference between the two is the fact that this is clearly tongue in cheek.

But of course, you are entitled to your opinion and I respect that. I'm sorry if I upset you in any way. :)

Thanks! No -- you didn't upset me, don't get me wrong. :-) Just voicing a different opinion ...

And yeah, I get that THIS was meant to be funny. But then again, acording to Mr. Gunn, so were HIS original comments -- didn't he claim his stuff was meant to be tongue-in-cheek too? So I guess my point is just, I don't find this kind of imagery funny no matter how it's intended, or in whose direction it's pointed. I probably dropped my sense of humour about this somewhere on the human rights/gender equality/sexual eploitation circuit that I walked for a number of years. Don't mean to spoil anyone's fun, but, to quote a certain redheaded assassin in a tight-fitting suit, "I just don't see how that's a party." ;-)

to clarify
It's good that you're upset; it's supposed to be upsetting.

The point is to raise the question in (mostly male) people's (specifically the artists') minds "why do I find this upsetting when the pose is done by Hawkeye, but think it's fine when done by female characters?"

Re: to clarify
Yes, I totally get why this was done. And yes, it's a good idea if it stimulates intelligent discussion (like the one we're having). :-)

So let me reiterate: I'm not upset that this is being done to Hawkeye. Frankly, I moved way past "upset" when I negotiated the UN Protocol on Trafficking in Human Beings which addresses the commercial and sexual exploitation of women, children and men, and met some of the victims. So if anything, my state of mind now is "sensitized".

What I do find interesting, and the reason for my initial comment, is that some of the same people who complained about Gunn's sexualization of women now actually drool over very similar poses of Hawkeye.
