If it was real? I would like to think it would be something small, related to their past. Like something from their hotel room in Budapest, along those lines. To everybody else it would be meaningless, but it would be a memory shared just by them.

Ladygris over on FFN currently has a secret santa thing going on in her story "Home for Christmas". No pink socks though.

I doubt Steve is mad that the socks are pink, he's probably more angry at the swastikas....seeing as how he fought Nazis and saw their evil first hand. Steve doesn't strike me as someone who subscribes to assigning gender to colours.
