Hi, and welcome aboard! :D Good to meetcha. The challenge I'm talking about is explained here (clickable text, if it doesn't show up on your comp as that) (http://be-compromised.livejournal.com/210788.html), but in brief:

I issued a silly challenge to the members of the community to write a fic set in their hometowns -- because writing one set where you know is a super interesting exercise (in both writing and reading)!

The other fics you've been seeing posted by cybermathwitch (or Koren) with little banners are part of an anonymous exchange (until reveals) that can all be found under the Secret Santa 2012 tag (which is here! (http://be-compromised.livejournal.com/tag/secret%20santa%202012))

Just post it here to the community, :). This challenge is informal, so there're no extra steps.

Most people put a header that looks a bit like this at the top of the fic (sorry if you know all of this already, I am a thorough person at heart).

Title:
Rating: (Gen/Teen/Mature/Explicit is the most common system, but the one used for movies in the US is also pretty widely used)
Warning: Any warnable material -- so anything in your fic that might cause harm to someone who's experienced it or the fallout (don't freak out if someone asks you to warn for something and you didn't -- you'll remember to next time :)). The normal warnings include: character death (including miscarriage); consent issues (so any fic where it is not clear in-text that both characters want to have sex prior to any sexual content starting; this can be warned for as "rape," or "dub-con/non-con" --mthe dub-con/non-con distinction really changes from person to person, but the general idea is that dub-con involves manipulated emotions or circumstances and that non-con involves physical coercion); torture/violence; self-harm or self-harming thoughts; suicide and suicidal thoughts; underage sex; incest (sexual or romantic relationship between two people who are related, either through blood or by being raised together). That looks like a big list, and it is, but just go through and check if your fic has those in it -- if it does, warn for it, if it doesn't don't (and if you aren't sure if it 'counts,' warn for "things reminiscent of " or something similar). If you don't see anything to warn about, just write that down and be open to if people ask you to add one :). If you want to avoid spoilering the plot with warnings, google how to do the html for a "spoiler cut" which will hide them from people who don't click it :)

In this comm, I am pretty sure everything is optional except for the ratings and warnings, but I am definitely not a mod.

Then you post your fic -- it's polite to hide your fic behind an LJ cut, which you can also google the html of, or whhen using the rich text editor you just select the text and hit the LJ cut button.

Actually, I'd meant to post something about membership over at AO3 for awhile now. I'm pretty sure that everyone who is currently a member got one invite in the last couple of weeks. If there's anyone who still needs an invite after we give them out, I think (although it was a few weeks ago that I read it) that a moderator of a collection (?) or something like that at AO3 can ask for a specific number of invites, as well.

Golly, I don't know where that info came from because I don't have an invite. I'm going to track it down again. grrrr.... that's what I get for not commenting on the link right away!

I haven't been around the bar much lately, but I'm always so impressed by everybody here. Lots of people are complaining lately that nothing happening on LJ and that everyone's moved off-site to Tumblr or whatever, but this bar is always hopping! You guys really know how to run a comm!

I can only agree. I was under the impression LJ was pretty much dead and it always hurt because, while I enjoy tumblr, my heart lies here. I might be a bit old school about it, but LJ was my first blog-love and it always will be. So when I found this place I basically started to jump up and down like a mad woman *laughs*

I personally am really not a fan of LiveJournal, because its administrators do not care about accessiblity and are ableist jackasses. (Paraphrases of things they have actually said: People requiring screenreaders can't use our website? Their fault for being visually impaired! People with migraines triggered into nausea and splitting pain from our design? Aw, just pop a few aspirin you whiner.) But if people stay here instead of moving to DreamWidth, this is where we must be :).

I'm glad you're here! And thanks for joining the sourcing of invites, haha -- it makes me feel way less stressed about not being able to provide for everyone.
