2014 ATTF Sign-Up Post #1

Info for all:

What is this All The Things Friday of which you speak?
All The Things Friday is bascially a day where we have a post that kicks off a party. That post can be a call out for recs, discussion, picspams, meta, thinky thoughts, squee, dance parties, mini challenges, ANYTHING that you would like to see on this comm. You can take a look at any of the tags with 'Friday' in to see the kinds of things that we've gotten up to before. Although if someone has already used your idea, don't worry; repeats are fine, because there are always new fics to rec and ideas had :)

Who can host?
Anyone. You can host on your own, or as a team, or with a mod.

What does hosting mean?
Being the person that writes the party post. Usually then joining in with the fun that happens. You can know what you want your topic to be in advance, or come up with it on the day.

It's moderating something?
No, don't worry. If you have any problems throw it to the mods as normal. It's more like chairing a gathering, being the DJ, yelling for drinks all around. It's as much or as little work as you want it to be.

How does hosting work?
You write a post about what kind of Friday you want it to be, opening up the floor, and you post it at any time on a Friday. For people worried about timezones, really,any time (we tend to party on into the weekend anyway). At the bottom of your Friday post we'd like you to copy and paste this:

What if I have a topic, but I don't want to host?
Let us know what topics you'd like and someone else will host it! Ideas are gold.

You keep saying anyone and anything, but what are the rules of this thing?
Have fun. That's an important rule. Otherwise, it's an all the things friday and we really mean that :)

Well, I was thinking that we could open up prompts on 2/07 or 1/31. A week to prompt, a week to write. Or go the week before 1/31 to open up prompts? I don't know. I can handle spreadsheeting if you and AlliSnow want to curate the rest of it?

I'd love to do one but I have a horrible travel schedule for the first three months and would likely be horribly unreliable. I do promise to chime in from odd time zones and air port lounges though!

Black Widow movie speculation? Like fic prompts, a plot/ scene you'd like to see?

I could talk about a Black Widow movie all day though, so YMMV.

Other ideas: Non-fandom inspiration, so pictures of dresses or whatever that you link to Clint or Natasha, quotations that always make you want to write, etc? Though that would get image heavy pretty quickly.

whoops ... sorry ... kinda pre-empted that first one yesterday ... :-( Although we didn't get a lot of actual plot prompts/ideas, it ended up more like freeform discussion.

How about ... tropes? People can whinge about ones they hate or extol the ones they love; make fic recs; write ficlets exemplifying (or utterly subverting) their favourite or least favourite trope; do a short version of the trope bingo?

I think this one has already been done, but it might be fun to do again. We could do Clint and Natasha on vacation, whether that means a visit to the tropics or downtime with a book somewhere.

I know, what about a Winter theme? Most of us are struggling through the Northern Winter at the moment (I feel like I'm in hibernation). Other people could bring in stuff and speculation from the Winter Soldier press tour (although has that started properly?) and trailer, under spoiler cuts of course. You could have fan art, fics and all sorts of fun meta.

If that's already been done, maybe a competition of some kind? IDK.

I like the idea of a general winter theme, but I think we're going to have a separate ATTF for the Winter Soldier release. I would be all about discussion of assassins sharing warmth and playing in snow etc, though. Would you want to host that?

I'm thinking 'hidden gems:' a chance to rec good fics that have flown under the radar and deserve more readers. Those fics get more attention, people in the bar get more fic to read, everyone wins!
