ATTF: New Year's Resolutions and Wishes
Happy new year, everyone! I hope you've all had a great start to 2014.

Because I'm betting I'm not the only one still picking up the pieces of my brain after the holidays, this week's ATTF is really simple. Our theme is new year's resolutions and/or wishes for the new year (if resolutions aren't your thing).

So:

1. What are your resolutions or hopes/wishes for 2014?

and

2. Do you have a head canon about our favorite master assassins and new year's? Do they celebrate it? Does Clint make the same resolution to take a nap every year? Please share/flail/write comment fic/have a general awesome time.

And as a final aside, check out this gorgeous promo Phil Noto posted on tumblr. Black Widow #1 comes out next week, and so far I think that's one of the most exciting things about 2014!

Things to remember:
1) Always label NSFW (Not Safe For Work) stuff in the title and post under a cut.
2) Fic and artwork needs to have a rating and warnings (or you can say that you’ve chosen not to use warnings).
3) For people with annoying internet connections, say in the title if a comment is graphic/images/gif-heavy and post picspams under a cut.
4) Have a damn good time! (Because if that’s not happening then this post has clearly failed.)

Happy New Year.

Same to you!

My resolve for this year is pretty simple: stop putting things off, and seize the day!

So far as putting that into practice goes, I've discovered I'm fantastic at finishing up a million little things when I'm desperately trying to avoid that one really important thing that also needs to be done.

Happy New Year, everyone! :)
[identity profile] enigma731.livejournal.com on January 4th, 2014 03:08 am (UTC)
Those are good resolutions! And I agree with the second part. I find that I generally only clean when I have another deadline. But hey, productive procrastination is still better than doing nothing!
[identity profile] happilydancing.livejournal.com on January 3rd, 2014 08:59 pm (UTC)
Happy New Year!

My resoluations are to write some fanfic...even if it sucks, I can't get any better unless I try, right?

Also, no eating after 6:30 most days. And no sneaking candy into bed b/c I am paying the piper with dentist bills, ugh.

Yay! for fic writing! Happy to act as cheerleader/enabler if/when required!
[identity profile] happilydancing.livejournal.com on January 3rd, 2014 11:19 pm (UTC)
Haha, you will also be the editor/re-writer as needed ;)
[identity profile] alphaflyer.livejournal.com on January 3rd, 2014 11:35 pm (UTC)
I live to serve. :-)
[identity profile] enigma731.livejournal.com on January 4th, 2014 03:12 am (UTC)
Yay for writing fic! One of my resolutions is to write more and overthink less this year. :)
[identity profile] spyforaday.livejournal.com on January 3rd, 2014 09:14 pm (UTC)
Cheers to all in 2014!

It seems I aged a decade in 2013 and I won't stand for it. So… *points to icon*

If anybody has an inspirational Nat/Clint training or workout fic or art they'd like to share for inspiration and/or motivation -- I'll probably be needing it around early February when the soreness sets in and the novelty wears off. For now, though, let Fury know I'll be reporting for @ss-kicking duty very soon!

*No workout on Fridays. That's reserved for relaxing with a beverage and enjoying ATTF*

[identity profile] happilydancing.livejournal.com on January 3rd, 2014 11:22 pm (UTC)
LOLLLLL...I love this b/c when I go to bodypump (which I seriously LOVE)I always pretend I am at SHIELD acquiring Clint's muscle...Although I'm not sure why I aspire to be a man, and have a feeling that man wasn't pumping iron to Kelly Clarkson (although who knows, really).
[identity profile] spyforaday.livejournal.com on January 4th, 2014 12:17 am (UTC)
Well, the thought of Clint pumping iron to any genre of music is just fine with me. ;)

And I do think using the "training for (or as) the Avengers" is a great motivation tool. Whatever works!
[identity profile] i-llbedammned.livejournal.com on January 3rd, 2014 11:54 pm (UTC)
I have to say, the whole reason I work out is because I go "Well I want to be like Black Widow so I need to start somewhere"
[identity profile] spyforaday.livejournal.com on January 4th, 2014 12:19 am (UTC)
Exactly!! It's all about the motivation. Keep up the great work!
[identity profile] enigma731.livejournal.com on January 4th, 2014 03:14 am (UTC)
Yessss this!
[identity profile] enigma731.livejournal.com on January 4th, 2014 03:13 am (UTC)
I'm gonna need an icon like that too. ;) Not gonna lie, I've totally pretended kickboxing was actually SHIELD training before.
[identity profile] spyforaday.livejournal.com on January 4th, 2014 05:57 am (UTC)
That's why I love this place!
[identity profile] enigma731.livejournal.com on January 4th, 2014 05:58 am (UTC)
I also sometimes think about actors having 4 am hair/makeup call times when I'm feeling sorry for myself about getting up to go to work. :)
[identity profile] hufflepuffsneak.livejournal.com on January 4th, 2014 06:59 am (UTC)
I'm going to start training harder as well, as I let my workout routine slide a little in the last half of 2013. Let's try and hold each other accountable, yes?

And a rest day is absolutely necessary. Mine is Sunday, but I might move it to Friday for the beverage/ ATTF :)
[identity profile] spyforaday.livejournal.com on January 4th, 2014 06:44 pm (UTC)
Yes, that would be great! I haven't had a regular workout schedule in an embarrassingly long time, so accountability will be huge for me. Count me in to help keep you on track!

In fact, I was thinking of motivating myself physically and creatively by chronicling my workouts by coming up with really short SHIELD or Clintasha stories that I make up based on my day's success/failure. Like: "got to the gym late and missed Agent Barton toweling off after his martial arts class. Thought about just blowing off my class, but I see that Agent Romanoff will be running it, so I'm sure he's sticking around. Will be worth it to catch a glimpse of him after a great workout." ...or something like that. Perhaps that's taking it just a tad bit too far. But, like I said, it's all about what motivates! ;)
[identity profile] hufflepuffsneak.livejournal.com on January 4th, 2014 07:23 pm (UTC)
Whatever works for you! I'm going to try to increase my running speed, so I need to do a lot of intervals and hillwork. How do you want to do it? Documenting every workout on our ljs seems obnoxious.
[identity profile] enigma731.livejournal.com on January 4th, 2014 07:29 pm (UTC)
My family's been talking about doing a shared Google doc, because we want to have a workout competition this year too. :)
[identity profile] spyforaday.livejournal.com on January 4th, 2014 09:21 pm (UTC)
Sounds like an awesome family. My family sits around and talks a lot, but the topics of Google docs and workout competition have never been uttered. ;)
[identity profile] enigma731.livejournal.com on January 4th, 2014 09:28 pm (UTC)
I dunno, it remains to be seen whether we're still speaking to one another after this little experiment. ;)
[identity profile] hufflepuffsneak.livejournal.com on January 5th, 2014 06:41 am (UTC)
Maybe a be_compromised google doc? If enough of us have google addresses. A spreadsheet to document workouts, and a word doc for goals?
[identity profile] spyforaday.livejournal.com on January 5th, 2014 07:17 am (UTC)
Excellent idea. I have a gmail and have used some of the shared docs before. I like where this heading. The more, the merrier!
[identity profile] hufflepuffsneak.livejournal.com on January 5th, 2014 07:48 am (UTC)
Great! We'll see who else shows up in the next day or so, and exhange emails? Mine is sneakyhufflepuff@gmail.com
[identity profile] spyforaday.livejournal.com on January 4th, 2014 08:59 pm (UTC)
I'm impressed and already somewhat intimidated. But that's good -- more reason for me to push.

My goal is less quantifiable, I think. No need to lose weight, but I do need to tone, improve flexibility, and, for the love of Thor, lose this muffin top. I'd like a six pack (ironically, "six packs" could also be part of the problem...).

Is there a way to use enigma731's suggestion? As usual, I'm tech-challenged, so I defer to those more savvy than I. And totally agree that constant workout posts on lj would get obnoxious. For everyone.
[identity profile] hufflepuffsneak.livejournal.com on January 5th, 2014 06:44 am (UTC)
I replied to enigma's suggestion. Maybe alphaflyer would like to join us? And the key with working out is competing with yourself, 'cause everyone's bodies and talents are so different.
[identity profile] enigma731.livejournal.com on January 5th, 2014 06:47 am (UTC)
Yeah, I definitely think it's important to judge success by adherence to one's own goals. I mean, I would like to lose weight eventually, but right now just sticking to an exercise regimen during a really busy semester is my main goal. And I would totally be up for a group shared doc, if that's something people want. :)
[identity profile] spyforaday.livejournal.com on January 5th, 2014 07:25 am (UTC)
Putting my workouts in writing in front of peers will help keep me in line, for sure. I love the enthusiasm being generated.
[identity profile] hufflepuffsneak.livejournal.com on January 5th, 2014 07:46 am (UTC)
Yeah, sticking to my workout plan is my major goal at the moment too. So there's you, me and spyforaday. I'll guess we'll see if anyone else shows up, and exchange emails?
[identity profile] alphaflyer.livejournal.com on January 3rd, 2014 10:25 pm (UTC)
Happy New Year, Best Bar on Earth!

Do I have resolutions? Well, I need to lose the 4-5 kg I gained back (of the 10 I dropped in 2011) which means DISCIPLINE and/or joining a gym, methinks. Watch this space ... Editing my life will be necessary this year -- our house is filling up with STUFF we don't need.

Hopes? I'd like to get that assignment in Europe this summer, after being tragically passed over in 2013 (which would help the aforementioned life edit -- nothing like an inter-continental move to make you dump stuff you don't need). I'd like hubby to be healthy, child to be happy, and a new left knee and a right shoulder for myself.

As for Clint and Natasha, well, I think NYE is a prime time to eliminate targets (parties, lack of general awareness ...) so they may have a contest going who can get to their mark first, so they can down tools and go clubbing as themselves. At least that's always the intention; usually they just end up in the hotel room raiding the minibar and drinking overpriced piccolos of champagne in bed while making crank calls to Coulson.
[identity profile] i-llbedammned.livejournal.com on January 3rd, 2014 11:55 pm (UTC)
I kind of like the idea of them going to parties, having some fun, and then doing missions at the same time. It's rather fitting for them.
[identity profile] enigma731.livejournal.com on January 4th, 2014 03:15 am (UTC)
I can also totally see them people-watching on NYE, can't you?

Best of luck with all your goals this year!
[identity profile] slytheringurrl.livejournal.com on January 3rd, 2014 11:13 pm (UTC)
Happy New Year everyone!!

My new year resolutions are to write everyday, even one sentence. Just something. Then my more personal resolution is to continue to fit into size small clothing and not gain any more flab and try to train for a 5K run since I really hate running.
[identity profile] enigma731.livejournal.com on January 4th, 2014 03:20 am (UTC)
Ugh, I hate running too. But I really like your writing resolution. :)
[identity profile] i-llbedammned.livejournal.com on January 3rd, 2014 11:53 pm (UTC)
Happy New Year everybody.

I generally don't make resolutions on New Years for myself. I don't wait until the end of the year to change things.

I don't think Natasha makes any New Year's resolutions. She generally doesn't have that sort of hope within her that she can change and I think would shun the idea a bit as being too conformist. I can see Clint making a few, but never keeping them. He would get distracted and fall back into old habits, but not beat himself up over it too much as he kind of knew that he wouldn't be able to keep his resolutions.
[identity profile] enigma731.livejournal.com on January 4th, 2014 03:28 am (UTC)
I tend to make resolutions by the semester, since my life revolves around the academic calender. :)

I can totally see Clint making the same resolutions every year and then just being like 'oh well, try again next year' and waiting the whole year to make another attempt.
[identity profile] sugar-fey.livejournal.com on January 4th, 2014 12:40 am (UTC)
Happy New Year, bar!

Finishing my thesis isn't a resolution so much as an Absolute Fact, so my hope is that it turns out okay. *fingers crossed*

My big resolution is to get a job that enables me to save enough money to go traveling and buy all the exciting new comics that are coming out this year!

Same to you! :)

Happy New Year! My resolution is to be more in control of my life :)

That sounds like a perfect resolution :) I will just copy that ;)
