Fic Rec Friday: First Meeting.
Welcome to the Holy Grail, y'all.

So I've had first meetings on the brain a lot lately, and the more I ponder, the more I think this is probably the single biggest fanon/canon moment for the Good Ship BlackHawk (aka, C/N, aka Clintasha, aka Assassins).  Bigger than Budapest even.  It's kind of the moment that changes everything for both of them, even if they don't know it yet.  And we've had soooooo much good fic on this, so many different ways I've seen it play out, and although I have my own headcanon on the subject, I love love love seeing it constantly imagined and explored.  I don't think this genre will ever get old.

As always, give us a link and a rating (and any warnings, if necessary) and brief descriptions of why you like it.  And all fanworks are welcome-- not just fic-- so long as it's related to the topic.

And chatting is always encouraged.  As are hijinks and tomfoolery.  Happy Friday, y'all.  ;)

PG-13

One of the very first I read, and still the gold standard in my mind. I love the language and the phrasing and how it does so much in so few words. This one just left a burning imprint on my brain in the best possible way.

Past and present collide in a village outside Novgorod. A story of endings and beginnings. Half "he made a different call", half something else.

Aww, thank you! That was pretty much all the headcanon I'd been collecting (kicked off by the 'Thorazine for the Lady' story I recc'd above) and then poured into a fic so I'd have it all in one place. ;)

Here's a vid I found only today and I love it to bits. Brilliant storytelling, with using Natasha's talk with Loki as voiceover: Sweet Dreams (http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&feature=endscreen&v=PcevlKRgoWQ), Natasha-centric with Natasha/Clint.
Not rated but I'm guessing something like PG-13.

MOAR RECS
Chess Pieces
(http://tulipfic.livejournal.com/74738.html)by [livejournal.com profile] rayruz
Rating: R
Warnings: none

This is not just beta-bee pride talking; I love their first meeting in this story. The exchange of notes, the dancing (they are always dancing in my head, IDEK), the game, the chase. And it goes on to beautifully develop their relationship too. Such good stuff.

Indebted
(http://archiveofourown.org/works/440522)by [livejournal.com profile] sablier_bloque
Rating: M/NC-17
Warnings: mentions of underage sexual abuse/rape, graphic decriptions of violence

This fic explores the very tricky concept of a younger Nat/older Clint and follows the evolution of their relationship over several years-- and the author does it with thoughtfulness and a lot of care. A really beautiful love story.

Hot and intense and not at all how I imagined their first meeting would go but wow. Love it.

I know! I love it. I love the age dynamic and how it evolves over the course of the story. So well-handled.

Indebted was going to be the one I recced, and I agree with [livejournal.com profile] franztastisch: instant head canon. I can't wait to see if she writes more. <3

Seconding everything recced so far :D I love Biting The Same Bullet and Indebted is a great look at a younger Natasha meeting Clint, Leon or Hanna style.

I'd like to add the body in the machine by [livejournal.com profile] trysts (R, 3780 words) which is wonderful in many, many ways, account rendered by Syria on AO3 (617 words) which is Clint lying about his first meeting with Natasha in the debrief, saying a lot in a small space, and Chrysalis by [livejournal.com profile] sugar_fey (R, 1028 words) which has their first meeting as the punch line to Natasha's backstory.
[identity profile] workerbee73.livejournal.com on June 22nd, 2012 08:16 pm (UTC)
Oh that's right! I forgot about the last line in Chrysalis. Good call.

Blindsided (http://archiveofourown.org/works/439235) by otterosync
Rating: teen and up
Summary: Obviously, she'd lost it. Listening to the man who tried to kill her is already crazy enough, but actually tending to him after causing his somewhat fatal wound is downright bat-shit insane.

I just wanted to say thank you for recc'ing both of these. The first one was such a great imagining of their first meeting and the second... well, the second just melted my brain in the best possible way. :)

Liars and Killers, by Lena Liz Carter (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8149620/1/Liars_And_Killers)

This is a little-known one that I think deserves more recognition, because it's really good. It's a much slower development of their friendship (and, the author promises, eventual romance), and it works well. It's still in progress, and is updated quickly.
