banners 2014: the times they are a-changin'
Hello, hello, hello and welcome to a new round of banner making! Read carefully folks, because this post has two challenges to sink your teeth into.

FEBRUARY'S QUICK AND DIRTY CHALLENGE

That is, the banner making, not the assassins *whistles innocently*.

You have until 5pm GMT Tuesday February 11th to submit banners with a theme of love so we have something shiny for the top of our comm on February 14th.

Banners must: be safe for work, have a width of 800 and a height of 350, be a png or jog file, anonymous, and contain both Clint and Natasha. You can make up to TWO banners each for this challenge! Please submit either the actual image or a link to the image to be_compromised@hotmail.com (If you have problems submitting by email let me know)

And then we're going to try something new for banner challenges this year, based on feedback and tweaks. Let's see how this works out...

How the new banner challenge works: each challenge will have three categories, two of which are themes and one which will be creator's choice. People can make a maximum of TWO banners, but the second banner must be for a different category. Banners will be sent to be_compromised@hotmail.com (So banner posts will no longer have screened comments and I can reply to you when you more easily when you add questions etc with submissions. If you have problems with submitting by email please let me know.) Banners will then be saved to the community's photobucket, so they'll be anon and you don't have to worry about hotlinking. Then we’ll post all of the banners anonymously and everyone in the community can vote for their favourite (including the makers).

You'll have longer to make your banners because we'll then vote for the next three months worth of community banners (in a similar way to how we voted for January's banner - voters will pick their three favourite banners in order of preference).

Hopefully this will mean as we only need a minimum of 4 banners every three months we don't have to beg, people have more time to make banners, and we still get a new banner every month! It was also suggested that we have something tutorials/tips orientated, sound good?

The Rules:
1) Everyone is invited to play, seriously, everyone, the more the merrier!
2) Banners must be safe for work.
3) Banners must have a width of 800 and a height of 350 and preferably be a png or jpg file.
4) We will make your banners anonymous, so please don’t tell or show anyone what you’ve made. Once the winner has been chosen though you’re free to share your banner wherever you like.
5) When new films etc come out (Iron Man 3, Thor 2, Agents of SHIELD) please don’t use images from those until we say it’s safe so no one gets spoiled! (If you want to use something and you're not sure if it counts as a spoiler, PM me.)
6) You can submit no more than TWO banners.
7) Banners should contain both Clint and Natasha (unless challenged otherwise).

SO THIS IS WHAT THE FIRST BANNER CHALLENGE LOOKS LIKE:
FOR MARCH, APRIL, AND MAY

(so the next challenge will be set in March for June, July, and August's banners)

Category One: scenery - it's all about where they are. Put our assassins on a mission in Budapest, on holiday on a beach, training at SHIELD, at home... Location, location, location.
Category Two: shades of grey - black, white, grey, greyscale, but no colours. Saturation zero.
Category Three: creator's choice - anything goes

Deadline: when we get this rolling over properly you should get nearly three months for banner making, but for this first one the deadline is Monday 24th February.

So, questions? Shoot! Theme suggestions? Gimme! Any feedback? Love!

So, just to clarify, I could do a banner for Category 1 and 2, or 2 and 3, or 1 and 3... I think you get the picture :)

Exactly! Yay, it makes sense :D

like the idea of rationalizing submissions to reduce begging. ;-)

But how come only two entries, if someone is willing/able/talented enough to produce three? (Not that I have even the slightest hope of producing ONE.) Just asking, if one of the objective is to ensure there is always at least one?

I don't like begging :(

Because if we're picking banners for the next three months we could end up with all three banners being by the same person and I think it's good to shake things up a bit, to make sure we get some variation in styles, and to have more than one person win each batch. If it went off willingness and talent I would set no limit at all on number of banners!!! Awesome bar is awesome :D

The objective is to give people more time to make banners and reduce begging, whilst still having a new banner every month and getting as many involved as want to. Hopefully this way we only really need two people with four banners between them made in three months for there to be voting. And then newcomers know they still have a chance, between top three banners get to win and no one person can have all three months. Note the 'hopefully' *fingers crossed*

am hoping to enter the banner challenge but am currently stuck tutoring someone in the library away from my beloved Photoshop...

*hopefully* I'll be home in time to enter something!

It would be fantastic to see more of your wonderful graphics :D No time panic though, I've just posted that we'll leave it now until March 27th, so you have a whole month now to enter!
