ATTF Winter Soldier Discussion
Hello bar, and happy Friday!

It's finally time to discuss Captain America: But It's Really A Black Widow Movie Winter Soldier!

So, what did you think? Come flail, discuss your head canons and your hopes for future MCU installments.

Please note that on this post all spoilers are fair game, so read the comments at your own risk!

ETA: Go here to rec or list Winter Soldier related fics. :)

Things to remember:
1) Always label NSFW (Not Safe For Work) stuff in the title and post under a cut.
2) Fic and artwork needs to have a rating and warnings (or you can say that you’ve chosen not to use warnings).
3) For people with annoying internet connections, say in the title if a comment is graphic/images/gif-heavy and post picspams under a cut.
4) Have a damn good time! (Because if that’s not happening then this post has clearly failed.)

Re #1: Concur.

#2: YES. That is my headcanon. Steve and Natasha are totally comfortable with one another (as friends) and she ribs him about his non-dating life because she is doing so from a position of comfort, being in a secure thing herself. And Steve knows it.

#3: Absolutely. Totally agree with that reading! That kiss at the end? Was so utterly chaste and sisterly as to squash any thoughts of shippability (at least for me, and I have grown quite fond of Steve and how he and Natasha relate to one another).

Re #4: There is only so much "back story" you can throw out in movies before it gets complicated. The comics are layers upon layers of this stuff, not always consistent, and the Steve/Bucky back story/tragedy is pretty compelling without needing to be cluttered up by others. Those are the editorial choices filmmakers must make, and if the MCU ends up more streamlined (and less confusing) as a result, I have no issues with it.

I've been fond of Steve and Natasha friendships fic (heck, all the Avenger friendship fics are win!) but now I'm even fonder *grins*.

After all the talk that was happening with Bucky being in this film that Nat would be with him, and then we had promotional images showing Nat kissing Steve so surely she must be with him, I find that I'm not just happy in my fandom heart that these two possibilities appear to have been ruled out in favour of Clint in the MCU but also very, very happy that this film focussed on Natasha getting to be her own woman, becoming friends with Steve, having a backstory with a 'villan' that had nothing to do with relationships or sex, doesn't need Clint around or any man to do her job, save the day, function. I think this film treats Natasha's character excellently and I love that.
