TITLE: back, back down the road I'm goin'
AUTHOR: [livejournal.com profile] ashen_key
PAIRING: Clint Barton/Natasha Romanoff
RATING: G/PG
WORDS: 819
NOTES: Written for [livejournal.com profile] sugar_fey's prompt Clint/Natasha, let's see how fast this thing can go over at the noir ficathon. Title comes from the song Rollin' Stone, by Muddy Waters. I've never written noir before in my life, and this is an attempt to capture the mood and tensions of the genre, rather than be the more hardboiled crime fiction angle most people associate with it. No promises on the success of this.
EXTRACT: She makes quite the picture, a red-haired girl in a white-and-red dress leaning against a red Cadillac, lighting up a cigarette with tension disguised as poise. She's pretty as a summer day's con, and about as reliable. Still, Clint regards her with something that's best described as fondness.

“Nice car,” he says. He doesn't ask, is it yours.
