ATTF: Remix Cheerleading Party
Hey everyone! Remix posting's just a few weeks away!

Today's ATTF is a cheerleading party dedicated to your remix fics. How are you all doing? Is your fic already done? In progress? Fighting you tooth and nail? Remember not to give away too many specifics, but feel free to flail, vent and support one another. If you're not participating in the exchange, stop by and cheer others on, or just have some general chat. I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with! :)

1) Always label NSFW (Not Safe For Work) stuff in the title and post under a cut.
2) Fic and artwork needs to have a rating and warnings (or you can say that you’ve chosen not to use warnings).
3) For people with annoying internet connections, say in the title if a comment is graphic/images/gif-heavy and post picspams under a cut.
4) Have a damn good time! (Because if that’s not happening then this post has clearly failed.)

Mine is kinda fighting me tooth and nail and refuses to be written. I have the whole story in my head, but I need to still write it all :/ I'm excited for the project, though, don't get me wrong. I'm basically turning the original fic on its head and yeah, it's intimidating. I don't know if the original author will appreciate it and then I have general trouble getting into the writing spirit at the moment.

So - help??? Can someone give me the peace of mind to just concentrate on writing it and getting it beta'd?

They will probably love it. One of the things I remembered when creating mine was how I felt about receiving remixes for my fics. Initially, I'd be trepidatious. What did they do with my fic? Then I realized I always loved it because it was essentially fanfic of my stuff. I had someone write fix-it fic of my work and I still loved it. Whenever I think of how I would react, I can shove the giftee back out of my headspace and write more comfortably.

Thank you, that really helps :)

I've never participated in a remix exchange, but I'm totally excited for the results. Yes, I'm concerned for my own fic, but I'm also curious what my remixer turned it into. So maybe this really loose adaptation of the original fic I'm planning is for the better?

I like loose adaptations. :grins:

I do too :D

I think an important thing to keep in mind about remixing is that it's not really about rewriting the original, it's about what the original inspires you to do. So to me it's less a response of "what did they do to my fic???" and more curiosity at seeing what parts of my fic stood out and were interesting to another person. Maybe it's what I'd expect or maybe it isn't, but it's fun to see either way. :) (P.S. feel free to message me if you want to hash things out in more detail)

Exactly, and that's what I thought about too. I let myself be inspired and I'm curious to see how it resonates with the original author.

Crazy4orcas was a really awesome sounding board in the early stages, but don't mind if I take you up on your offer ;)

*blushes*

You've got a great, solid fic in the works. I don't think the original author will have any issues!

Let me know if you want to bounce ideas around again -- you know I'm game. :)

*blushes too*

Thanks to you I do and I hope they're fine with the route I took.

Bouncing ideas with you is always awesome, so be sure to expect some screeching for help when I actually start writing, hahaha. :D

You can dooooooo it!!! :-)
[identity profile] shenshen77.livejournal.com on June 7th, 2014 04:22 am (UTC)
Yes, I can :D Thanks for the encouragement, I need it, no matter how excited I am for this.
[identity profile] alphaflyer.livejournal.com on June 7th, 2014 04:29 am (UTC)
Did I mention how happy I am to see you back playing here? :-)
[identity profile] shenshen77.livejournal.com on June 7th, 2014 04:52 am (UTC)
No, you didn't, but I'm happy about it too :D I missed you guys *loves on you*

I have heard that about remixes, though I can't admit to being able to make my head do that when I read a fic I'm going to remix. I guess there's this canon-compliant part of my brain that keeps making it hard for me. Which is a pain because I could really use an "inspired by" reaction to the fic I'm eyeing right now.
[identity profile] shenshen77.livejournal.com on June 6th, 2014 08:37 pm (UTC)
Reading AUs really helps :D I love canon-compliant fics too, but AUs are awesome as they open up a whole new series of worlds. And if you need help figuring out what to do with the second fic you're eyeing, I'm offering my help :)
scribblemyname[personal profile] scribblemyname on June 6th, 2014 08:52 pm (UTC)
I do like AUing canon-canon, but I've never wrapped my head around doing it to a remix. Hm...

I think I'll email you later tonight maybe.
[identity profile] shenshen77.livejournal.com on June 6th, 2014 08:56 pm (UTC)
If you can AU canon-canon, you can AU a remix :)

Give it some thought, I'll be happy to hash it out with you.

Happy to serve as an idea bouncing board (unless you got me, of course ... ;-) )
scribblemyname[personal profile] scribblemyname on June 7th, 2014 03:23 pm (UTC)
Thanks. I'll probably be in tooth and nail mode tomorrow and need all the help I can get.
[identity profile] alphaflyer.livejournal.com on June 6th, 2014 09:56 pm (UTC)
Yes. This. I didn't know that this is how it COULD work, so I was sitting there quietly fretting until [livejournal.com profile] inkvoices and [livejournal.com profile] franztastisch let me in on the secret. I found the idea that inspired what I'm writing now and it's a missing piece of my own head canon, actually, so now all I need to do is find the time to finish writing it.

I've been on training these last two weeks and it's been a major intellectual drain (all positive, just nothing left in the tank when I came home). Hopefully the weekend will bring closure ...
