Promptathon 2014
The Good Ship C/N Promptathon
of Magic and Joy: Round 3

Break out the confetti canons!!

RULES ON POSTING SUBMISSIONS
(please read before you post! <3)

The Rules. Just follow these three easy steps!

1. Leave a Prompt.
Prompts can be anything--simple or elaborate, words or pictures, songs or poems, lyrics or phrases. Anything that, to you, inspires a C/N fanwork. Use your imagination. Go WILD. All we ask is that you place anything NSFW under a cut or link, use trigger warnings when appropriate, and place anything spoiler-y under a cut with a warning. As this is a Clint/Natasha promptathon, your prompts and fanworks can include other characters, but the central focus must be on Clint and/or Natasha. If you’re posting large images, please be mindful of members with slower Internet connections and place the image under a cut or link.

And leave as many prompts as you want. I’m serious. Keep coming back, y’all. We want all the prompts we can possibly get Also, be sure to leave each prompt as a separate comment.

2. Wait a week.
Keep leaving prompts and plan your fanworks! This is a time for celebration and creating all of the things. Work hard, shippers.

3. Submit C/N fanwork like there is no tomorrow.
All submissions should either be posted here or linked to this post via a comment. We will make an official post about rules in the time leading up to submissions. Please read it before posting, as responsible partying is to be encouraged at all times.

Timeline

Prompting starts today, August 2nd and will remain open until August 9th. Submissions will start on August 16th, and will remain open until August 31st.  It is, in fact, A WHOLE MONTH OF PROMPTATHON.

If you can’t complete your fanwork by August 31st, that’s okay. You’re still welcome to post your fanwork to the community! However, the promptathon masterlist will only include fanworks from August 16-31.

What we hope to accomplish with all this promptathon-iness:

  • A chance to get in the game. Been wanting to jump into the C/N fanwork scene but not sure where to start? Now’s the time. There’s no length requirement on the works submitted, you can focus on drabbles and vidlets and short and sweet projects (or do longer more epic stuff if that strikes your fancy as well).  It’s really entirely up to you. We’re just hoping to provide a fun, no-pressure environment. If all you want to do is post prompts and share in the squee, that’s fine too!

  • Meet new and awesome people. Newbie or lurker? Here is the perfect opportunity to say hello!

  • Ship like you’ve never shipped before.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact the mod team.

Have fun, everyone. Now fly, my pretties, fly!

SUBMISSIONS ARE NOW CLOSED.

Thanks to everyone who participated!

There are a fair amount of stories about Natasha not being interested in sex because of her past, or using it as a tool rather than for plesure, or bing used by other for it, an so on, and then the ones were she's regained it... and I thought, what if Natasha saw this more as language that she's been taught, self-taught, practised, and become fluent in? What if Natasha uses sex and not the other way around. Sometimes she doesn't know how to be demonstrative, or she can't find the right words, but comfort, desire, trust, love, anger, fear... Clint knows Natasha so well because she speaks to him in her language and he's learnt to understand it.

YES!!!

I don't mind fics written on this trope if they do it very, very well, but it doesn't feel right to me. This is a woman who uses her body and had a very longtime lover in the comics (Winter Soldier) besides having no obvious hangups about sex anywhere in canon. There's a line in a fic somewhere, "Every part of her body is a tool." And she does seem so fluent in that, my headcanon is that she has no hangups and has no problem expressing herself in whatever form. After all, that's what her work depends on.

:realizes I got up on the soapbox: :gets back down: :looks sheepish: But yes! Want to read!

I know I've done it, written that sex is a tool and every part of her is a weapon. I'm flexible on a lot of character interpretation dependent on the story, infinite variety is fun and good, and I think it does depend whether you take into account comics or not. I hadn't read Black Widow comics before Avengers and I still wouldn't say I've read that many now *shrugs*. But sex as a tool, sex as problem, pleasure, useless function...I have no certainities when it comes to Natasha and I find it kind of curious, because isn't sex this big debate for women anyway? Wanting it, not wanting it, and how that makes women viewed, by men, in society *insert feminism* but yes.

I'm just thinking what if sex isn't a tool as such, or a hang up, or a thing, but a function, of communication. A language. Which, you know, is a thing I guess sex can also be. Sorry for incoherency, 'tis late for me here :)

You're less incoherent than me. You said what I meant to say. :grins: I'd write it just...

I have 28 WIP fics sitting in my queue to write for this promptathon. I think I better stop collecting prompts.

Oooh, this is very interesting (I totally get what inkvoices is prompting and I would love to read that fic!), but this comment is interesting because...I actually feel the opposite? Now I have never read any of the comics, but when I first started reading fanfiction, what you described, is what I mostly saw. But then I started reading the fanfic that said no, she just used sex as a means to kill someone and didn't get pleasure out of it, and I thought, "huh". And THEN I started scratching my head b/c I can't imagine Nick Fury or Coulson or anyone in SHIELD actually suggesting she has sex (maybe I'm naiive) for any reason whatsoever. Play the honeytrap, yes of course. But having sex? I just don't see it.

Now RedRoom, who knows? I'm assuming in the comics its directly stated she would have sex with someone (more than just doing the honeytrap) in order to gain trust/info whatever?? My opinion, from what I have seen of MCU, is that Natasha started at SHIELD in her early 20s at the oldest (she would have been 23-24 during Iron Man 2, I believe) so she might not have the same history of being in a romantic relationship (although very possible) as in the comics. And this is just a personal thing, but I think if she WAS expected/coerced/whatever to have sex with guys (or women) who are essentially marks, she wouldn't have enjoyed it more than "I got you, you sucker" kinda way. If she even did any of that. I am wondering if it will ever be answered.

So all that to say I think its possibly she might not have any hang-ups about sex (although she seems to have them about love) but I just can't wrap my brain around her being ok with being coerced by anything the Red Room expected her to do. Maybe she didn't realize it at the time, but now I think she would.

Wow, that was a big tangental response, sorry about that. Its just all so fascinating to me. And I want to know more about MCU Natasha!!! Give us a Black Widow movie dammit!

This is fantastic! I love the idea of another take on that issue, and this is so wonderful.
