ATTF: Hobbies
Hello there,

So we are all a fan of the super spies/assassin and can all basically agree that they are certified badasses when it comes to their work. But they can't always be working, right? I mean even the most dedicated spy, once broken free

Do you think that they have any hobbies or do you think work takes up a lot of their times?
Do you think that they keep any hobbies consistently or do they always try new things?
Do you think they share any hobbies or do they have very differing tastes?
Do they have hobbies that they share with other teammates?
What do you think they like to do for fun?

Personally I tend to think that Natasha doesn't really know what to do with spare time. She like music, but when she first broke free of her orders she was left a bit hollow and confused about why people would do things other than train. With time I think she took to quiet hobbies like reading to keep herself occupied, but she still keeps doing things like dancing even without the conditioning (old habits are hard to break after all). She doesn't really share her hobbies and just kind of does them to recuperate by herself.

Clint on the other hand I picture having a lot of hobbies. For some reason I always picture him being able to play the guitar, acoustic, and then will pick up other hobbies at random. Like he will see someone juggling and go "That is badass, I should learn how to do that" and then train until he gets good at it. Then he will get bored once he gets good at it and find something else he can set his sights on. All of his hobbies are big and flashy though, a remnant of his circus days. I can see him showing off for Natasha and her humoring him and giving him snark about whatever he is doing.

Things to remember:
1) Always label NSFW (Not Safe For Work) stuff in the title and post under a cut.
2) Fic and artwork needs to have a rating and warnings (or you can say that you’ve chosen not to use warnings).
3) For people with annoying internet connections, say in the title if a comment is graphic/images/gif-heavy and post picspams under a cut.
4) Have a damn good time! (Because if that’s not happening then this post has clearly failed.)

Clint writes bad thriller noir novels for fun.

Natasha reads all of them and then doesn't tell him about it for months.

(though on the serious, I think Natasha would regard different forms of martial arts as hobbies. She's trained as a weapon, but I don't know—I think she'd find different fighting disciplines, and how each of those styles deals with entropy— fascinating. Clint would probably also find any type of weaponry fun to play with, on an academic level)

HA. I think I read a fic about that once ...? Except, I remember them being GOOD thriller noir novels ... ;-)

Natasha's biased. :)

Yeah I remember reading a fic like this too!!! Like Clint would always be writing something and Natasha was so curious what he was doing.

I was teasing Frea. She wrote it ... :-) "The Woman in the Crosshairs" is one of my all-time favourites.

Haha, I am so bad with remembering fics. I'm always like "oh there was that thing that happened in that story once! damn, I want to read it again" and do a mad google search.

Hahaha, teasing me and you got in trouble for it. My revenge is complete. ;)

I really like the idea of them using battle as a hobby. Like something that is not their primary form of fighting would just be fun and playing for them, so I can really dig that.

I think my only headcanon is that Natasha dances and reads books and that Clint is not attached to his hobbies but certainly picks them up easily.

Beyond that, I love playing around with hobbies, just picking something for a fic and running with it.

I think they both hate down time. As in, "Vacation? You gotta be fuckin' kidding me. I'd lose my edge!"

Such spare time as they have -- and yes, they DO have it, they just characterize it as levelling out or getting ready for my next mission -- is spent watching cheesy action movies, and criticizing people's styles and assumptions about what spies do. ("No, seriously. Climbing through the window? Who does that? Just hack into the security network, and open the front door! People never suspect the ones who just saunter in.")

They also (especially while levelling out) enjoy reading papers and magazines (and internet commentary) about what people think happened in that op they just completed.

"Hey, Clint, listen to this. Senator dies after dish of mussels. Doctors suspect allergic reaction. Do they have any idea how hard it was to get him to swallow his own tongue? I had to listen to him read his entire election speech while he was wearing that velours bunny suit."

LOL

But yeah, I forgot that one. I totally think they watch movies on downtime and don't DO vacation.

Haha. I wonder if sometimes they get ideas from movies. ;)

I could totally see Clint suggesting they try things and him and Natasha making a contest out of it.

I agree with dance for Natasha and music (guitar, singing, etc) for Clint. I do think Natasha likes reading (I think that is from the comics, right?).

I think Natasha likes to cook (stole that from Scarlett's headcanon, thank you Scarlett lol)...I think Clint likes to walk around naked. But that's not really a hobby, more of a preference. ;)

My headcanon is also that Natasha likes to cook, thanks to Scarlett Johansson's headcanon. I think she likes cooking because preparing something purely for her own enjoyment was something very new for her. It also helps her feel more at home, which again is a new feeling. She mostly cooks for herself and very few others, like Clint and Fury and Maria. If Natasha prepares a meal for you, then she really likes you.

I love these thoughts!

I was watching some Emily VanCamp interviews, trying to get a read on her (so far all I got is she has an amazing body and is the sweetest person ever...may need to watch an ep or two of Revenge) and she was saying how much she loves to cook and now can picture Nat and Sharon in the kitchen together, cooking and relaxing.

I have them both reading. But I have everyone reading so I think that's more me than an actual headcanon.

I like the idea that Natasha is quite cultured, and enjoys museums and art galleries and ballet and opera and theatre etc etc. And Clint likes some of these things, but pretends he doesn't. :P But mostly I think Natasha likes quiet and/or solitary hobbies; reading, going to exhibitions, ballet, puzzles. I think she likes quiet - but not introspective quiet. Like, quiet activities. Partly because I think, while she finds differeny fighting styles and new weaponary very interesting, they're too close to her job to be hobbies. She also likes Sigur Ros, because I like Sigur Ros. :P

I like the idea that Clint is into sci-fi - especially "classic" sci-fi like Asimov, which is weird because I don't like that kind of sci-fi all that much - and also history. But not academic history, more like "you know about the thing! You will tell me about the thing and then I too will know about the thing!" I think Clint knows a lot of really random stuff because he's good at remembering, and I think Clint enjoys learning, though not academically. I think he's pretty good at occupying himself when he wants to be and has, thanks to the circus, a plethora of random tricks with which to do just that.

YES to the reading. Clint spends hours on stakeouts making up for the fact that he hasn't gotten a formal education. Most of the stuff he reads is related to missions, like when he was sent to Central Asia he read "The New Great Game", just so he can get some context for just why he is being asked to kill someone. Natasha does like the Russian novels -- it's the only time she feels like claiming her Russian heritage.

I am suddenly reminded of Walsh in the Unusuals reading trivia on stakeouts.

But yes to so much of this. I swear your fics give me more headcanons...

Ohh, I like your headcanons for both of them. :D Especially about the quiet-not-introspective hobbies for her and the picking up random knowledge for him.
