Because I just looked at my Avengers writing folder and realized that I have sixteen WiPs (not including the co-authored ones I'm working on with my partner-in-crime). Now, some of these more documents with ideas that may never get any further, but-

Sixteen.

So, I am declaring this a support post for flailing and ranting and capslocking and asking for help (be it just 'IS IT A GOOD IDEA, WHAT AM I DOING' or 'so, anyone know where I might find out how exorcisms are done in Russian Orthodoxy*') for everyone in the comm who may need it.

Because I can't be the only one suffering from an overly-active Clint/Natasha muse.

Right?

:D?

**coughs* which I may need. for reasons. and a spn!au fic

Mmmmm, roooooooope *coughs* And oh, man, I know the 'brain is bouncing between different modes' feeling, too. Which ends up with me that I don't write in either of the moods, because I can't settle.

Ahahaha, yeah, I don't blame you on that! I need to go and catch up with date!fic. Sadly my own fic-recovery period seems to be 'start blankly at things for a night. then next day, write ficlet'.

*cheerleads and sends flowers for recovery*

I hear ya. When I get ready to hunker down on a fic, that's when I start doing reeeeeally intensive outlining and chatting with my beta peeps. I always have to talk about a fic first before I can make sense of it (and also identify potential plotholes and WFT-ery). Saves a lot of trouble down the road, and I dunno, helps me feel more confident in what I'm doing. And keeps me from getting stuck on stupid things. This is why my beta thanks on my stuff is always obnoxiously long; for me, it's a huge part of my writing process.

Heh. I'm kind of the other way... if I talk about a fic too much, some of the excitement and immediacy goes away and I'm actually less likely to write. That said, the current epic epicness made me run to [livejournal.com profile] madjm to corroborate a couple of assumptions before I got too far into the plot :)

See my comment to Ash below. There's definitely a moment where it's too early in the process for discussion. At least for me. It's like the idea isn't ready to stand on its own yet and it can totally fall apart.

*nods* Sometimes it's kind of like feeling your way through a dark room :)

I try not to outline too much (if I know too many things before I write, I get bored and won't write it), but with longer things I generally try and rough an outline and write random scenes so I don't lose them. It's a work-in-progress, my trying to work out the best way to proceed. But I absolutely do the 'bunker down and research' thing.

And then I get stuck and then babble at friends - your way sounds more sensible *g*
[identity profile] workerbee73.livejournal.com on June 30th, 2012 07:41 pm (UTC)
I have no idea about sensible (my betas would probably say no *g*), but yeah, it works differently for everyone. And there's also a moment where you're not ready to talk about it yet-- where an idea can totally fall apart if you try and talk it out to early. It just kind of has to sit there in your head and hang out until it's ready to be social.

What is this writing thing? IDEK.

It's madness. MADNESS!
[identity profile] workerbee73.livejournal.com on June 30th, 2012 07:53 pm (UTC)
You want madness? The Renner tag on tumblr is madness. I barely made it out alive today. Can we have a support group for THAT please? Like, I feel we should tie ourselves together like old-fashioned mountain climbers in case one of us goes over the edge.
ext_36286[identity profile] allisnow.livejournal.com on June 30th, 2012 07:57 pm (UTC)
Yeah, except I sort of think once one went over the edge the others would be like HEY I WANT SUMMA THAT TOO! and then, bam, there go the rest of us. Honestly, tumblr is a great way to get a little fix when mama needs some Renner. I actually resorted to rewatching MI4 last night because THAT MAN'S ASS.
[identity profile] workerbee73.livejournal.com on June 30th, 2012 08:01 pm (UTC)
HA! I was just following up on your comment to Ash on the VIRTUES OF MI:4 (aka, That Movie Dedicated to Renner's Ass and His Magic Ability to Just Stand There In The Background Not Doing a Damn Thing and Manage to Steal the Entire Fucking Film.)

It's only right... I mean, a butt like that DESERVES it's own movie.

And the flippy awesome hands-are-faster-than-the-eye gun thing? UNF my ladyparts.

OMG THAT SCENE. IT DOES THINGS TO ME.

(And right before that with the yelling? It also ... does things to me.)

Yessss.

And then they swoop in at about 10pm and go "WRITE ME, WRITE ME, WRITE ME" and you don't get released until about 2:30 and *headdesks*

Writing. Writers. We're all mad here, really, because we do this to ourselves.
