Because I just looked at my Avengers writing folder and realized that I have sixteen WiPs (not including the co-authored ones I'm working on with my partner-in-crime). Now, some of these more documents with ideas that may never get any further, but-

Sixteen.

So, I am declaring this a support post for flailing and ranting and capslocking and asking for help (be it just 'IS IT A GOOD IDEA, WHAT AM I DOING' or 'so, anyone know where I might find out how exorcisms are done in Russian Orthodoxy*') for everyone in the comm who may need it.

Because I can't be the only one suffering from an overly-active Clint/Natasha muse.

Right?

:D?

**coughs* which I may need. for reasons. and a spn!au fic

I love this idea! I've always wanted to talk to someone about my ideas, but never really had anyone to talk to (mostly because I'm too nervous about approaching other writers).

I've got a fic wandering around in my brain that involves a vamp!Natasha and slayer!Clint, of all things. He's sent to kill her and they end up working together to go after a second vampire (coincidentally Nastasha's master and also trying to kill her). It's dark and full of things going bump in the night and, at the heart of it, about two monsters who look at each other and realize they're not alone anymore. I have pieces of different versions here and there (believe it or not, parts have been written on a typewriter), but I would love help to straighten it out and make sure that they stay in character. You know, if anyone's interested.

I heartily approve of this idea. Like WHOA. Like, I need this in my life. :)

:D It's really exciting to hear that! I rarely do long fics, but since it's been hanging on for three or four weeks now I feel I should give it the chance it deserves.

I just need some help to do that. Whoops.

Sorry I'm so abysmally late in responding, but let me know if you need to chat about anything. I'm always happy to talk character/headcanon. :)

Would you? That would be absolutely fantastic! :) I think that talking it out is going to really help. What's the best way for me to talk with you?

PM is fine. :)

That's a fascinating idea! Considering that they're both Master Assassins and Natasha's 'transformation/reclaiming' themes...ooo, shiny! I can see them staying in character for this and it would be a brilliant read :D

Thank you! It's inspired by an art post I spotted on Tumblr, so I can't take full credit for the idea. I'll admit, I'm most worried about making sure they stay in character (especially since it looks like it will be much longer than what I usually write), which is why I'd love a beta, or just even someone to talk to briefly.

And I hope it will be! The scariest part of telling people about it is thinking that it won't live up to the expectations.

If you want someone to check if they're in character according to the films, I'd read through and chat, no worries! I wouldn't rely on me for comics details though and my Buffy background is a handful of episodes and a heap of Angel. (A couple of my friends and me are having a summer dvd swop soon - I'm lending out Dollhouse and Firefly, and should be getting Buffy in return. I keep meaning to watch it all the way through, but could never afford it or have the time, so fingers crossed!)

But yeah, disclaimers aside lol, I can do the reading and talking thing :)

Thank you so much! :D It feels like there are a dozen different ways to go with Natasha's character in particular, and I don't want to reach the point where she's unrecognizable. There are a lot of similarities between her film and AU backgrounds, which you would think should help, and yet I keep second-guessing myself.

I've never read the comics, so my basis is entirely film-related. I haven't had the inclination or the money to get into them - which, when I'm talking to comic 'verse fans, always makes me feel a little guilty.

I'm actually not basing the 'verse in Buffy, because I've never actually watched the series. (Now I feel like a terrible Whedon fan.) I guess saying 'slayer' is a bit misleading, but it feels like the best term for the job that these guys do. Sorry for any confusion. >___>

I think it's fun that we have the space to play though when it comes to Natasha's background and characterisation :) When it comes to writing I work off motivations - why is this character doing/saying this and does that why fit in with what I know about them? Probably because I will read anything as long as the writer makes me believe in it, so bad characterisation for me isn't a character doing something I wouldn't expect from them, but there being no basis for it, no fic set up, if that makes sense?

I'm not hunting down Avengers comics, although I might dabble. I think a lot of comics art is naff to be honest and whilst there's lots of snarky dialogue a lot of the plots and writing are as well. I've been spoilt by Neil Gaiman's stuff and the Joss Whedeon X Men comics, heh.

Haha, I've not watched most of series either, just odd episodes and got info through osmosis. There is a grand dvd swap going to happen this summer between me and a few friends, so I may be getting Buffy to catch up on :) Don't apologise though, because if anything that makes it sound more intriguing :)

See, that's actually very helpful to hear, because my tendency is to see the end point (whether that's how she is when she meets Clint or how she acts at X point in time) and try to manipulate the circumstances to shape her so she ends up like that. When I put aside my notion of what she'll be like later, and focus on what she wants to do now, suddenly everything becomes much easier. The character can drive the action and the consequences, and later chapters are always rewriteable. I've stopped jamming her into a corner, I guess.

I snagged Sandman from my library and read all of it in under a week. It was brilliant. The best part is, I get the feeling I didn't completely understand everything the first time through, so I can reread it over and over and catch more new things.

Osmosis via internet; definitely had that happen before. If only it worked for my classes too...

Hey, I have a fic!idea with both Natasha and Clint being hunters - I think something about them calls to things that go bump in the night and redemption and protecting people - so, her actually being a vamp? All. Over. That.

Sadly, I can't offer to talk about it over email, as my head isn't in the best space and I'm very much Miss Flake right now, but *cheerleads*

And, dude, typewriter *_______________*
[identity profile] sweetwatersong.livejournal.com on July 2nd, 2012 11:33 am (UTC)
They would make awesome hunters, damn straight. Is this perhaps that SPN AU you mentioned in the original post? :D

Thank you for thinking about it! Let me know if there's anything I can do to help you; it's no good when you're out of whack.

(I was wondering if anyone would mention that. It's so much fun to type on; I love it!)

It is, and I have so many plans, muahah. But I have a number of fics to get out of the way first *firm with self* (and I admit that before that was a brief idea of Natasha being a dhampir, but I'm going to stick with hunting.) But, you know that SPN!Fury would have lost his eye in some epic demon-related battle and I adore this 'verse in my head waaay too much. Is there going to be a SHIELD in your AU?

<3 Combo of mental and physical health misbehaving, alas, but thanks for the offer! :)

(I love my backspace and the ability to move sentences around as I see fit too much to swap out my laptop, but that is so. damn. cool)
[identity profile] sweetwatersong.livejournal.com on July 2nd, 2012 10:36 pm (UTC)
I suppose I should support your self-control instead of nosing about, encouraging you to write SPN!Avengers... *sigh* Oh, man, he totally would have, and probably going toe-to-toe with Azazel or someone else equally bad ass. Are the Winchesters in your AU?

Yes, SHIELD will exist! As I figure it now, it acts as the base of operations/organization for the Slayers. The police/local hunters take care of reported/local cases of magic and monsters, so SHIELD tracks the unreported monsters/the ones that cross state lines/the big bads who are too much for the regular law enforcement. The Slayers are similar to mercenaries in that they get to pick the jobs they want and get (mostly) free rein to take care of it however they want. They do have to take on any cases they've been assigned/selected for, though. and take direction from the higher-ups. Speaking of Fury, if you're high on the ladder at SHIELD, you climbed over a lot of bodies (hopefully just monsters) to get there.

You're welcome! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. :)

(Yeah, backspaces are convenient. Fortunately, I can do all the spelling corrections and editing I want when I get around to putting it into my laptop. I love using it because I'll write a lot just to hear the banging and clanging and watch it work. Everyone else within a 100 feet might not be so fond of it because I only have free time late at night... whoops!)
Ashen Key[personal profile] ashen_key on July 3rd, 2012 11:11 am (UTC)
The Winchesters are! If only for the hilarious image of Dean hitting on Natasha, and Clint kinda smirking in the background going "ahahah, yeah, buddy, she's sure as hell not interested in you" in his head. Not sure about the Big Plot with the yellow-eyed demon - I really have to rewatch seasons one and two, and pick up three (and that's as far as I'm going).

ooooooooooooooooooooooh *grabby hands* Do. Want.

(Ahaha, whoops indeed.)
[identity profile] sweetwatersong.livejournal.com on July 3rd, 2012 11:56 pm (UTC)
Oh, man, I would love to see that. *snicker* And the Supernatural mythology is loose enough that you could probably slot Fury in anywhere you wanted, but I heartily approve of rewatching seasons!

:D Now I just have to actually deliver. I've started spinning the scenes of their histories out - Natasha's especially - and that's proving to be very helpful. If the main fic is as long as it wants to be, I might write the backstories up and post them as bonuses. I don't know, we'll have to see. *secretly super excited*

(I REGRET NOTHING.)

Yesss, so do I. SHOW MY SHOW (at least when it was about two brothers cruising around America killing things. Then it got delusions of grandeur and Went Weird And Full Of Angst, and so I went D: and bailed)

Yessssssssssssssssssssssssss. It'll be brilliant.
[identity profile] sweetwatersong.livejournal.com on July 7th, 2012 12:20 pm (UTC)
I stayed with it until the end of season five (because hello Castiel) but haven't seen it since. I'm kind of waiting for the fallout to decide if I can emotionally afford to watch anything from 6/7/8. But yeah, in my head it ended with Swan Song.

:D *crosses fingers*
