ATTF: More Clint Barton in MCU 2k15
So, anyone who's on tumblr is probably already familiar with the tag I stole to title this post. Even if you're not, you've probably shared the sentiment, right?

Well, today this party is all about your head canons and wishes for Clint in MCU going forward. What are your guesses for where he's been this whole time? What do you think it was like for him moving into Avengers Tower, and how has he been adjusting to living there so far? And, most importantly, what do you want for him going forward, both on-screen and off?

*If you discuss anything from the Age of Ultron promotional materials or interviews, please be courteous to your fellow bar patrons and use a spoiler cut on your comments!

Things to remember:

1) Always label NSFW (Not Safe For Work) stuff in the title and post under a cut.
2) Fic and artwork needs to have a rating and warnings (or you can say that you’ve chosen not to use warnings).
3) For people with annoying internet connections, say in the title if a comment is graphic/images/gif-heavy and post picspams under a cut.
4) Have a damn good time! (Because if that’s not happening then this post has clearly failed.)

I don't really think his absence in CA:TWS needs explanation. It's a big organization and he was probably working, just not right there at that moment, which fits with the cut scene.

I want all the backstory and feels and I feel like they've hinted at giving a lot of that in AoU, so there's that.

What I really would love would if they brought in his deafness. I don't expect it though, and I don't want it if they can't do it justice and make it matter/mean something.

Also, that line the trailer? I'd love to see him in a mentorship/advice-giving role because in the comics, regardless of his issues "making his own stuff work," he tried and he was very good at teaching others how to do that. He's a pull himself up by the bootstraps type character, so hoping that shows up.

And I totally like the idea put forward in interviews that he integrates fine, but he's really only close/trusting with people he's known a long time. I notice in the trailer, he was sitting close with Maria, someone he's known waaay before the Avengers. I think he fits in, he's comfortable, but the trust is more there with Natasha and Maria than the Avengers proper.

If tyhat happens ill be screaming from New York.

I have Auditory Processing Disorder and Clint being Deaf really helps me relate to him so it will me everything to me if they do.

YUUUUUUP. Me too, to all of this spoiler-y stuff. I'm so fascinated by Clint's relationship with everyone.

One thing I would love to see in the MCU which is so far fetched is his relationship with Melinda May and Phil Coulson. I still headcanon to hell that Philinda were his mentors when first joining into SHIELD and recruited him in the MCU. I'd like that to be a reality.

Alas I think the only backstory we are seeing is Nats

and the only interaction we'll probably see is if Clint goes to AOS.

I really do think he may show up in AoS... because Bobbi.

I think this too. I am desperately (and by desperately I mean I am enjoying the hell out of it) catching up with AoS. Just watched season 2 episode 1 yesterday (SO EFFIN GOOD) so I'll be all set going into Avengers 2 and hopefully a Clint ep somewhere at the end of the season...
[identity profile] alphaflyer.livejournal.com on March 20th, 2015 07:21 pm (UTC)
Well, I think he's been in Afghanistan (that throwaway line in Cap2 about the parking spot?) ...

And YES to deafness showing up. There was a scene somewhere of him being on a gurney on the Quinjet or something, if I recall correctly, which makes me think that this would be a good time (so to speak) for him to lose his hearing. Then not hearing could become the secret weapon against Ultron ...

Also, that whole farm scene with the dinosaur in the window and the kids' drawings. I say, Scarlett Witch-induced alternate reality, created to give the Avengers a safe haven for a bit, and which Clint has to give up for the final battle. (I kinda have a fic brewing on that one, which I hope to get written before the movie starts...)

pls to be clarifying (since I"m not using a cut, I'll be vague) about pictures?? I've not seen/noticed it....

I agree with you about the throwaway line in Cap TWS. I've watched and backed up several times to try to get clarification on that line and haven't been able to quite catch everything, but I agree I think it's a reference to Barton.

What line are you guys referring to?
[identity profile] happilydancing.livejournal.com on March 21st, 2015 04:29 pm (UTC)
I think she is asking about the drawings on the windows?
[identity profile] helikedmyshoes.livejournal.com on March 21st, 2015 05:06 pm (UTC)
Sorry, I meant about the throwaway line in Cap2. I'm trying to remember it and drawing a blank.
[identity profile] happilydancing.livejournal.com on March 21st, 2015 06:02 pm (UTC)
Ah got it! I don't remember the exact like but there were 2 Shield agents talking and one said something like "I've been parking in his spot for about 2 weeks, where is he anyway?" and the other one said "last I heard Afghanistan". Or something like that.
[identity profile] alphaflyer.livejournal.com on March 21st, 2015 07:04 pm (UTC)
Yes, that's the one!
[identity profile] delle.livejournal.com on March 21st, 2015 10:04 pm (UTC)
right as Cap is coming in to make his Big Announcement to try to get the Shield agents to refuse to launch Insight.

The scene I was referring to was mentioned in the Empire article about AoU, now that I remember, rather than in a trailer. (Sorry, that article is not available online to link to, but the magazine is still for sale -- in Canada at least -- and worth the hefty cover price!)

Yes! A thousand times "Yes!" More Clint Barton.

So, I’ve been waiting to dump these thoughts out and I think now is a good time.

Here goes…

Ok, first off, here is a head canon that I just can’t shake. If I can get my act together and flesh this out, I want to write it before the movie. According to the conversation being held in the scene outside of “the farmhouse” where Tony and Cap are splitting logs, we find out that Wanda showed everyone their dark side/deep, dark secret/some hidden feeling/yada yada yada. I think Clint pitched a fit and didn’t want any part of it – totally in character for him, yet why fight it when everyone else has done it? At first, I thought maybe he’s hiding the fact that his hearing is compromised. But, then… What if we get to see glimpses of him bringing Nat in, having them develop a romantic relationship, having it fall apart, BUT having it revealed that he’s still in love with her. If (IF) she’s moved on – especially considering what we see of her and another team member – he doesn’t want to interfere and he sure as hell doesn’t want the whole team to know. …Sigh…

AoS spoiler… This is so elementary and obvious, but again, what if… given the revelation at the end of the latest AoS, there exists two sides to SHIELD that will coincide with the sides in the upcoming CW? I would love to see Clint show up, go in and try to recruit Bobbi to whatever side he’s going to be on. When she declines, he tries to “reason” with Hunter and the three of them have a very entertaining, snarky conversation about what it’s like to have been married to her. She ends with a comment to the effect of “I don’t know how I didn’t see it before! You two don’t need me – the two of you are perfect for each other!” This halts all discussion and earns her deer-in-headlight looks from both men.

Ah, feels good to get that out in the open!

Oooh, I like! Please ficcify at once! *waves the wand of enablement*

Ok I have tried responding to this twice and my computer was being dumb yesterday).

Like most everyone else, I want the deaf-storyline to be a thing in the MCU.

I also want to see his interactions with the other Avengers, want to get a taste of his history, want to know everything about his past, present, and future with Nat ;), and would love a Barney mention, although not expecting it.

But what I'm most curious about, and I know we will get, is just to know his personality. Clint in the comic books is one thing (and even that varies), but I think MCU Clint will be a bit different.

What we know from the interviews is Clint is a bit of a snarky grump (which we have already seen), and he isn't a big company man. He respects and is loyal to Fury and Cap. I kind of get the sense he has a dual nature...likes spending time by himself, is a bit sarcastic about how he sees the world. But also likes collecting people ;) in the best possible way. I think Loki's "you've got heart" wasn't just a throwaway line.)
[identity profile] delle.livejournal.com on March 21st, 2015 10:05 pm (UTC)
oh, nothing Joss writes is throwaway. I agree, I think that line links directly to the way Renner and Joss see Clint.
