Hello all and welcome to All The Thing Friday Image Fest!
We haven’t had any recs for pretties in a while, so today is a day to feast your eyes on images, funny gifs, fanvids, picspams, icons, banners, and all things images. Share and rec all the things!
Anything not safe for work please put NSFW in the comment subject box, just in case ;) Anything that’s an Age of Ultron spoiler, be kind and stick it behind a cut.
Not sure how to share?
The easiest way to share any link is to copy the address of the webpage in the address bar at the top of your internet browser. Simple!
Want it to look tidier? Then you can make it so that when you click on text it leads to your link by doing this:
Want an image to show in your comment or post? Then there are two ways of doing this. The easy way is to right click on an image and select ‘copy image address’. Then do this:
If your image turns out to be HUGE then livejournal has a handy way of making it smaller, just do this and substitute the percentages for whatever you like (but be aware this will affect your image quality because you’re squashing it):
(Just so you’re aware this is called ‘hotlinking’ and is generally frowned upon as a bad thing if your link is going to be viewed a lot, so if you were going to use it as an icon or a banner for example. Hotlinking means displaying an image on a website by linking to the same image on another website so that when the image is loaded it’s loaded from the other website. Which uses the other website’s bandwidth. And if they run out it goes crash.)
The way of doing it if you expect your image to be viewed a fair amount and to avoid hotlinking is by right clicking on the image and selecting ‘download image’. You then go to somewhere you can upload it, such as photobucket or your useful livejournal scrapbook. You can find your scrapbook by going to home > my journal > scrapbook You can then upload your image and even create albums to keep collections of images in. Then select the image, so it appears in a pop up window or open it in a new tab, and right link to ‘copy image address’ or copy the image address from the address bar, and do the thing:
Livejournal also has this ‘add to post’ clicky button now as well or when you’re writing a post there’s an option to add images – if you hover over the little icons in either visual editor or html mode it’s the ‘insert photo’ one that lets you upload images you’ve saved or select images from your livejournal scrapbook.
Fun fact: you can use all these methods for gifs as well! Wondering where to find gifts? Doing a google image search and including ‘gif’ in your search often finds some gems.
‘But what about videos?’ I hear you say.
If someone has posted the video in a livejournal/dreamwidth/journal type post the easiest way is to select the address of that web page and link to that, like at the very start of this how to.
If the video is on YouTube you can use their handy embed code. All you have to do is where it says ‘add to’ and ‘share’ under the vid title and vidders name, and click on ‘share’. Then select ‘embed’. This will give you code in a box. Copy all the code in the box. Paste the code in your lj post or comment. And voilà!
And now you’re ready to get sharing :)
Let get this party started!
Things to remember:
1) Always label NSFW (Not Safe For Work) stuff in the title and post under a cut.
2) Fic and artwork needs to have a rating and warnings (or you can say that you’ve chosen not to use warnings).
3) For people with annoying internet connections, say in the title if a comment is graphic/images/gif-heavy and post picspams under a cut.
4) Have a damn good time! (Because if that’s not happening then this post has clearly failed.)
