Re: recs
I think I kind of got annoyed with the 'oh, wife and mother, how boring' attitude that always seems to pop up, because my subconscious came up with this whole life for her that I would really like to get written down, so we'll see how that goes.

Re: recs
I think it was that there's so much we don't know, and that there's space for that to be other or as well as the role of wife and mother. I want to write SHIELD Laura and carnival Laura, and I want to read military Laura and farming Laura and university Laura and...all the possibilities! Look forward to seeing what you've come up with.

Re: recs
Oh, I like carnival-Laura -- one of the acrobats for all that extra flexibility and strength, ;D

RE: Re: recs
Ha, I hadn't actually thought about that. Hmm... ;)

RE: Re: recs
I decided, the first time I ran into that "ugh they wrote a housewife" type of comment that making the assumption she was a housewife (not that there is a thing in the world wrong with her being a housewife and mom) said a hell of a lot more about the people making the comments and their ideas than the movie or her character. :D

And then I "realized" that (headcanon) she totally works for SHIELD. ;)

Re: recs
Hah, my first reaction to the 'just a housewife' attitude was 'clearly, you have never actually met a military wife, especially a Special Forces one' (which I think we can roughly correlate to a SHIELD-spouse) because they would have chewed you up and spit you right back out for *that*.

I thought about her being SHIELD (because she certainly rolled with it all, even not!dead!yet!Fury in her barn) but my brain ran off with it being her farm and hasn't come back yet. :D

RE: Re: recs
It all circles back to the lack of female representation in films I think - having Laura be 'just' a housewife and then show us how important that is, because it is, would be excellent - but when you don't also have other shades of female lives you get the 'just a housewife, ugh' reactions going on and then I feel the urge to make Laura more than that. (Which, we have other ladies, but minimal screentime to date.) And then I wonder if that's also a bad reaction and I should write the thing where she is 'just' a housewife, because sod that noise.

I think the canon is most likely to end up with her being a Military Wife, and I think that'd be interesting to explore. I'm not familiar with this though, so I've wondered off into 'she works for SHIELD' and other territory...but have ended up researching the US military anyway because I wondered if mayb she was military herself before SHIELD. Oh, the black hole of research *grins*.

RE: Re: recs
THIS. While it would've been great if we'd seen Laura produce some valuable intel or something in the movie, the way fandom has been talking about her annoys me.

Especially the people who've been saying "OMG, Clint leaves his wife and children for long periods of time to do a dangerous job? How irresponsible! What a horrible husband! Their marriage must be awful!" Uhh, what do people think happens in real life military families where one partner is on active duty????

(and why are people using "Ugh, Clint is being so irresponsible" to bash Laura???)
