ATTF: Patriotic Celebrations
HAPPY WEEKEND, BEST BAR! Here in the U.S., we’re celebrating 4th of July -- or if you’re Canadian, maybe you recently celebrated Canada Day. Either way, the important part is that this means barbeques, fireworks and hopefully a long weekend.

But even if you’re not in America or Canada, we’re still going to bring some holiday spirit to the bar with ATTF: Patriotic Celebrations! (And no, we’re not talking about Captain America…unless you have a totally awesome headcanon of Clint and Nat celebrating 4th of July by making it a day about Steve.)

But how DO Clint and Natasha celebrate 4th of July? Does Clint hold a barbecue and invite Natasha and everyone else because he’s ALL about the good ol’ American holidays? On a slightly heavier note, given Natasha’s from Russia (and still doesn’t quite feel she knows where she belongs) would she have reservations about celebrating a holiday focusing on American freedom? Or would she decide that, because Clint is the person that’s made her feel like she has a home for the first time in her life, she can focus on that?

And I know we’ve probably done variations of this before, but since this is a holiday weekend, what's your stance on assassins and their holiday celebrations in general? Personally speaking, assassin downtime is one of my favorite things. But they don’t necessarily need to be doing nothing in order to be festive. Because they’re always traveling and working, I like to think that they’ve totally spent 4th of July in a firefight. Or they’ve spent the long weekend being stranded somewhere that they can’t get extraction, and Clint is totally upset because he’s missing hot dogs.

Share your recs, headcanons, fanart and whatever else you want below!

Things to remember:
1) Always label NSFW (Not Safe For Work) stuff in the title and post under a cut.
2) Fic and artwork needs to have a rating and warnings (or you can say that you’ve chosen not to use warnings).
3) For people with annoying internet connections, say in the title if a comment is graphic/images/gif-heavy and post picspams under a cut.
4) Have a damn good time! (Because if that’s not happening then this post has clearly failed.)

Great topic!!

So I think the Avengers WOULD make the day about Steve, if they happen to all be together...not because he is Captain America, but because its his birthday, isn't it? And of course they would have fun with ALL the candles on the cake. Dum-E would be nearby with a fire extinguisher. ;)

Yes, I do think Clint would host a bbq and invite everyone. I think he loves the 4th, he loves bbq, and he loves people (even though he is introverted...but he gets enough alone time on missions usually that he is up for a big bash quite often). Half the guests are in their Captain America t-shirts, just like how half the US will be in their Captain America tees tomorrow lol.

I think Natasha has fun at the bbqs but doesn't have the same feeling of tradition or sentimentality as some of the others...or rather, she does, but in other ways...more of a new tradition, and maybe more sentimental about being amongst friends. And she is always up for decorating the top of a cake with blueberries and strawberries in shape of an American flag, or whatever to help out.

And when they are on missions away from home, Clint still bbqs (although sometimes its a rodent on a stick over a fire), humming patriotic songs (or Springsteen, which frankly is as patriotic as anything ;))

...for at least one Independece Day (well, it started as one but then it kind of became traditional) the other Avengers (Clint swears it wasn't his idea) decided to sort of prank Steve by all wearing Captain American t-shirts (Natasha's the reason they managed to pull it off) only there was an incident (a bad guy type incident) and it wasn't technically Independence Day any more (being two in the morning) when they all started shedding their mission gear and armour back at the tower and still had on underneath these (now rather messed up and sweaty and gory) Captain America t-shirts (apart from Bruce) and Steve stared and thankfully found it funny and ended up doing this sketch of Team Captain America (that Pepper had framed, behind protective glass in case of further incidents) and, yeah, so it's a thing.

I am all for inclusiveness and love thinking about Steve being included. My favorite things to think about are Avengers hangout times (like, the party and hammer scene in AoU was my favorite scene ever).

And omg, I LOVE that image of everyone in their Cap shirts at Clint's BBQ.

This would be when they find out that Clint can cook (well, he can char flesh). He learned on a lengthy mission to Tbilisi that the world's best BBQ is NOT actually from Texas, but from Georgia and came home with a bag of spices. So when he makes steak (because, let's be real, what else would you want to eat?) he does that Thing he learned from the baboushka in the guest house, and everyone raises their eyebrows because it's GOOD.

Natasha and Kate always bring salad (because otherwise, there wouldn't be one -- Clint doesn't do "rabbit food," his concession to vegetables is to nuke some potatoes and then throw them on the BBQ for a bit of char); Steve and Bruce bring the beer. Tony usually forgets all about it and then has to fly in, which was awkward for the first time because all of Clint's tenants were there and he had to hover until there was a clear space for him to land.

But as for patriotism, Clint couldn't really care less. The Fourth is just an excuse to hang with the gang and eat steak.

Completely agree about the rabbit food. But come on, there has to be some hamburger next to the steaks! This is 'merica! ;)
