Ant-Man: Discussion Post
Happy summer, best bar!

Between the AU exchange and Age of Ultron, we’ve had WAY too much on our minds lately…so much so that it was brought to our attention we never did a discussion for Ant-Man. And I know, our assassins weren’t actually IN the film, or sadly, even mentioned (unless you count the general Avengers line.) But some of you have asked if we would have any kind of fandom discussion, so we’d like to open the floor to anyone who wants to chat!

So, if you’ve seen the film, what were your thoughts? I know a lot of us (myself included) were a little wary about the film as a whole, but I actually really enjoyed it. It’s not my favorite Marvel movie, but I didn’t expect it to be. And I found myself pleasantly surprised by how nicely it slid into the Marvel Universe, as well as by the humor.

Did you like Scott? Are you excited, at least, that we hopefully get Hope in future MCU movies? (I’m clinging to this.) Was THAT cameo the best thing about the movie? And on a related note, where were the assassins? I’m sure there will be a lot of fill-ins between now and Civil War, but if you have any ideas of where Clint and Nat might be or even what side they might go towards in the next film, we’d love to hear your thoughts.

So discuss away! And I’m pretty sure at this point most people have seen the film, but none the less, please use the requisite spoiler warnings anyway just to be safe.

Things to remember:
1) Always label NSFW (Not Safe For Work) stuff in the title and post under a cut.
2) Fic and artwork needs to have a rating and warnings (or you can say that you've chosen not to use warnings).
3) For people with annoying internet connections, say in the title if a comment is graphic/images/gif-heavy and post picspams under a cut.
4) Have a damn good time! (Because if that's not happening then this post has clearly failed.)

So, if you’ve seen the film, what were your thoughts?

After "Age of Ultron" (which made and still make my cry for so long now [because of Pietro for reasons!]) I was totally unsure about it. But the trailers made me laugh. So I hope the movie will also. And, it really did. I think this is now another feel-good-movie for me. The scene with Wasp made me cry. But after all I left the cinema with a big smile. *-* (Probably also because of the scene with Bucky. BUCKYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!! *LOL*)

Did you like Scott?

Totally, yes. ;D I also think you really can see what kind of person he is when he get back into the houses to give all the stuff back he stole in the first place.

Are you excited, at least, that we hopefully get Hope in future MCU movies?

She was okay but I didn't care much about her. It would be cool to see her again but I wouldn't cry if she would not. :o)

Was THAT cameo the best thing about the movie?

Do you mean Stan Lee? If yes: It was okay.

I was more excited about Sam Wilson. I really didn't know he was in that movie. I only once saw the trailer about 2 weeks ago and decided to watch the movie. ;D I knew they made this movie. But I totally missed the trailer. Also the date. *LOL* So I was really excited to see him again. ;D He is so cool. :3 I loved the fighting scene so much. I laughed so much. *LOL* And I hope the 2 other people in cinema weren't annoyed too much about my laughing. *blushes*

And on a related note, where were the assassins? I’m sure there will be a lot of fill-ins between now and Civil War, but if you have any ideas of where Clint and Nat might be or even what side they might go towards in the next film, we’d love to hear your thoughts.

After "Age of Ultron" I think Clint might probably not have much scenes in "The Civil War". And if yes I hope he will survive. Pietro died because of him. So he better stay alive for him. -_-

Isn't a movie planned about Natasha only? I read something about it after "The Winter Soldier". So maybe they do it now? I didn't check the timeline to tell if this is true. *LOL*

But - I think she will have a part into the "The Civil War". Maybe something about Bucky and her? They share a history in the comics. So maybe this will it be? I don't know.

I really don't know where Natasha was in that movie. But I'm pretty sure Clint was with his family. Maybe also Natasha because of the new baby? She was also not fine in the end of "Age of Ultron" because of Bruce. So maybe she deals with it now? Or maybe she tries to help the new Avengers? It would be awesome if she would with my bb Wanda. *-*

[ARGHS. English mistakes. So sorry.]

I liked AntMan. It's light and fluffy, and didn't aim for anything more. What it did seem like to me was a bit of connective tissue between AoU and Cap3, and in that it succeeded. That scene with Sam at the Avengers' facility? And Peggy? And "if they're not busy dropping cities out of the sky?" Nice. Bit like fanfiction, really!

I didn't swoon over Hope either. Does that make me a traitor to my sex? But I just didn't find she was all that well fleshed out as a character (nobody was, really, except Scott). My favourite by far, actually, was Luis, the crook with the heart of gold and the IQ of a cucumber, who went totally gaga over getting to be one "of the good guys". I can just imagine him wandering into an op with Black Widow and Hawkeye...

Yes! I really liked Luis! The character reminded me a lot of Merton from Big Wolf On Campus, digressing from the subject and being super excited to just know someone "special". I love love love that his family goes to wine tastings and art galleries in their spare time. :)

I think Hope would have been done more justice if they had revealed more about her relationship with Hank. The original Ant-man Hank was a dark, angry dude. It reflected in his tactics and in his personal relationships outside of work. That head-slam against the conference table was the tip of the iceburg. How much did Hope witness as a child? It has to be considered if we want to examine the tenuous relationship they have now, and that is the main context we see here in the movie. I just don't know if the MCU really wants to. What makes me sad is that the movie seriously sets up a Wasp movie, but it is missing from the list for the next however many years. :(

Oooh, thanks for posting this topic!!!

I loved Ant-Man. It was Marvel fluff. And that's what I really needed apparently. I was feeling so down about Marvel in general after AoU (and not just b/c it sank my ship but b/c other than the twins and Vision, it basically sucked all around), and had NO expectations for this one...I was SO surprised. It was funny and delightful. It was the most "Disney" out of all of them, but very cute.

Luis was my favorite too!!! I want him back in more movies. Watched this with thalassix and we were laughing so hard the entire time with tears in our eyes.

I was also surprisingly happy with Michael Douglas. I don't recall particularly noticing him in movies before (except being like, hey there is Michael Douglas) but I didn't realize what a nice voice he has. Really helped all his voice-overs.

I liked Hope. She didn't stand out to me too much, but I still liked her. Funny thing is, I didn't realize it was Evangeline Lilly (whom I don't think I have ever watched before) and for some reason thought it was Kate Beckinsdale. So the whole time I was thinking "Hmm, Kate Beckinsdale looks different." lol.

I was surprised at the kiss at the end, but I liked it. I think I kinda ship them now. I def want to rewatch this.

I don't know where Clint or Nat is but maybe they are grieving over Laura's death. and yes, I do like Laura. But she has got to go. ;P

I really enjoyed Ant Man. AoU kind of...I walked out going, "I guess that was ok? Sort of?" and realized it has just pretty much left no impression on me. This was such a quality bit of fluff. I think it would have been improved if the Wasp reveal had come in the way of Hope donning the suit and coming in at the final battle, because this really was a movie where she could have been the central character and I bought the justification at the same time as I would have preferred things done differently. I hope she appears, and I hope the tease about the first Wasp being freed from the quantum zone is true. As a whole, the movie made me laugh and I walked out happy.

It wasn't the best Marvel film for me, but I enjoyed it. It was a good laugh. I appreciated Cassie's lines (I hope you don't catch him) and the whistling (It's A Small World, ha) and Sam's scene was hilarious. It was a bit light on the ladies - yes, we had Hope, but that's kind of it and she seems...deliberately pushed back so that at the end we can have the reveal that yes, you too can be a superhero with a vagina *shrugs*. Shame we didn't get Jan. But yes, fun.

Y'know, I wasn't really thinking about where Nat and Clint were during this, but now you've asked it... Nat's training with the New Avengers right, so when Sam says, "Cap can never know about this." Well. Either Natasha's listening in, in charge of the base whilst Steve's away Solider hunting, or Natasha's with Steve or on her own mission but she will find out about this shit, Sam, because she knows everything. And then she may blackmail you into cooking her scrummy food. Or pratiscing air catches that make even you terrified. Or maybe she'll just let it hang over your head and smirk at you every so often because she knows.

(And maybe when Scot Lang and Bucky start getting up to tricks, Natasha knows what's going on there too.)

("Got his ass kicked," Natasha says cheerfully, sitting sideways on the sofa legs crossed, stretching out.
"Aren't you supposed to be training him in how not to let that happen?" Clint dumps his daughter's latest broken toy on Nat's knee, because Auntie Nat of the 'sparkly bracklets' is the one who fixes these things.
"Pft." She holds out her hand in demand for the tiny tool kit. "Everyone needs their ass kicked by someone smaller than them as a starting point. Reminds them not to underestimate enemies they perceive as weaker."
"Yeah, but ant-sized though?"
"I know, right?" Natasha grins.
"You're a cruel woman." Clint passes her the tool kit and lifts her legs so her can sit down, letting them fall back into place on top of his lap.
"Hmm. I brought the footage from the security cameras and Sam's headset."
"And this is why we love you.")
