Clint's car?
Today I just happened to go past a bookstore and just happened to buy the tie-in comic Fury's Big Week (which I'm going to use most of, and ignore other bits, but anyway). One of the panels had Clint driving a car, and given he got woken up in the middle of the night and told to drive, I'm going to guess that it's actually his.

Also, it doesn't exactly seem like a SHIELD company car...

My question is: anyone have an idea what kind of car it is? I've done some poking about and looking at cars, so my guess is possibly an old Pontiac, or maybe an old Thunderbird, but I'm the opposite of a car person, so I have noooooo clue.

Any ideas?

And the more I look at it... what car was Clint driving at the end of the movie?

I'm pretty sure it was a black SHIELD car of some bland, company-car-fleet appearance, but I cooooould very well be wrong there.

I thought so too because of the matte finish and "generic" look. But would Clint EVER drive something generic? I have thoughts about this. Many, many thoughts.

Pretty sure it was one of the new Acura sedans (TL maybe?) b/c Acura had a placement deal for the film. The convertible Tony and Bruce drive off in together is also an Acura concept car.

And how much do I love that we're all sitting here geeking out about cars?

I LOVE THIS FANDOM.

And then I posted the question over on my Facebook so I've been geeking out about cars there, too. I always get the best ideas from conversations like this!

Those TLs are NICE CARS! I just want to pet it (http://www.freecarforum.com/wp-content/uploads/acura-tl.jpg). I still think there are very Hawkeye-specific modications under the hood. And because Coulson asked so nicely, he might have tinkered with his "standard issue" car, as well.

Because there is a picture in my mind of Clint with a smudge of oil on his cheek.

I wish I could participate, but I know nothing about cars. *weeps*

You don't have to know anything about cars to just appreciate how pretty they are! *grins* I'm right up there with the "It's blue" knowledge of most anything with an engine. But a well-built car is a thing of beauty!

What Lar said. For me, it's pretty much point and stare at the pretty ones. ;)

I am going to be very boring and go "he probably has a fair amount" *g*

A) for his own personal car, nice cars cost money. He works for the government (or, at least, he works for an organization that has a lot of similarities to a GO, even if it's an NGO) - his pay is probably decent, but it wouldn't be amazing. So, if he has a car from late sixties/early seventies? It is his fairly expensive baby.

B) On the job, again, probably a fair amount - SHIELD don't want attention drawn to them, so even if they have really nice cars in their fleet, they are going to blend in unless you know cars. Or he's actually hiring a car from a car-hire place (and putting the bill on SHIELD), and he'd probably just...roll with it. Again, don't draw attention, blend in and be bland at people.

But then again, I see Clint as a fairly normal guy when he's off the clock, he's good at just radiating 'normal' at people except for being an archery nut. *g*

And because he doesn't have money, I"m sure he's spent a fair amount of time under the hood. Yes, it's guzzled quite a bit of money over the years but he's bought each new part when he could afford it.

The car itself? He jacked it when he first left the circus. Sure, he feels bad about it now but he actually tried to find the previous owner now that he's legit and damn it all if the man didn't hand him back the keys after he heard his story. "It's yours now, son. Changed my life the day you took it from me. Sounds like it changed yours, too." He sent the guy a Christmas card the year before he died of lung cancer.

His SHIELD car (and there's only one he ever let's be assigned to him) looks unassuming but it can go zero to 120 in 3.4 seconds, thanks to the modifications under the hood. Oh, he used SHIELD dime for these parts but Fury agreed to every single charge because he gets to use it whenever he wants to. It does other things, too, but there's a lot more rumor to truth in those stories.

For normal, he's got the truck. It's what he drives around town. It helps him blend. But for those late nights when he can't sleep, he's got Maggie. Yeah, he named his car Maggie. Not many people have high enough clearance to know why.

Archery nut? Have you been talking to Tony again? No, Clint prefers the word "enthusiast". It makes him sound a lot less like someone who saw The Lord of the Rings and decided to pick up a bow because Orlando Bloom made it look cool.

*hangs head* When people ask me what I did this weekend, I'm going to have to tell them "Trying to get in the head cannon of a cool guy with a muscle car" and they're going to look at me funny.

Again.

Oh, his actual car? I'm absolutely certain he's fiddled with things.

But the company cars probably come and go, I figure for my headcanon (due he was driving a company car in New York, and I have him in my headcanon as living in San Diego.)

Aahah, but it's really interesting headcanon! And. Kinda makes me want to go and do something silly like "let's all write drabbles about our headcanons re: Clint and his car", but I've just woken up, so I'm a touch loopy <.<

San Diego. Interesting. Because of the beach? Or was he Navy?

Drabbles? Pish. There will only be short stories about a boy and his car. *grins* I'm ALWAYS working on something promised when these sorts of ideas come up.
Ashen Key[personal profile] ashen_key on July 7th, 2012 11:11 pm (UTC)
Former Army Ranger! (like Coulson, in my headcanon, which is one of the things they clicked over, despite Clint being ex-enlisted and Coulson ex-officer) and. I cannot remember why San Diego now, except now that I have a SHIELD office in that city. But he does hang out in Balboa Park and watch people.

Drabbles, ficlets *waves hand grandly* similar thing! <.<

And I'm...working on way too many fics, too, but still.

You forgot to add "baked pastries" to the list of possible creations. *grins*

My sister and I have always figured him for ex-Navy Seal but that's because we're Navy brats.

I HEREBY ADOPT THIS HEADCANON AND AM TAKING IT HOME AND NAMING IT GEORGE.

And we need lots of ficlets on this. Preferably involving grease smudges....
http://lar_laughs.livejournal.com/: Marvel - Clint[identity profile] lar_laughs.livejournal.com on July 8th, 2012 03:54 pm (UTC)
Hooray for George! I am smushing him all to bits, I love him so much!

I used to be a drabble queen. You needed 100 words of anything, I was the person who could do it for you. These days, I can't seem to write anything less than 1000 words. I'm working on something but it's going to be a few days. Others will have to come and fill in the slack!
[identity profile] workerbee73.livejournal.com on July 8th, 2012 03:59 pm (UTC)
I actually think we're going to be doing a comment ficathon/whatever around here soon-- and whether drabble or longfic, I'd love to see either. I'm also thinking that old muscle cars and grease smudges and George might just make an appearance in the prompts list....

Have to! Have to have to have to HAVE TO!

Grease smudges... *faints dead away* You know, a year ago I would have told you that I don't have any kinks.
