*bangs on your door* Trick or treat!

From a role reversal fic that never really worked out. Pepper Potts is Rescue/Iron Man and Tony Stark is her (terrible) PA.



It made sense, really. Pepper couldn’t continue doing the job she had been doing. Not now, not after recent… developments. She’d talked to Sam about it and he’d agreed. Coming out, in a manner of speaking, to the press had done wonders for Potts Industries on the stock market; stabilising prices and enticing new investors who wanted the dubious privilege of investing in a company co-managed by a superhero. But practically, she couldn’t run a world class R&D department and keep up with her… extracurricular activities. And she had been very firm to Sam about not giving them up. She’d grown a conscience, and she was damned if she’d let it go now.

No, she had to do something about her position. She could… she could promote Tony, she supposed. But Tony was an idiot. A genius, yes, but also an idiot. Pepper looked across the basement lab to where Tony sat, alternating between working furiously at his large bank of computers, and trying to get screwed up balls of paper into the bin from three meters away. She smiled fondly. Whoever would have guessed that years later he’d still be following her around – that she’d still let him? He was irresponsible, loud, abrasive and promiscuous. And a terrible, terrible PA. But he had a good heart. And, damn, did he know his way around computers.

“JARVIS?”

“Yes, Ms Potts?”

“Inform Mr Stark that he’s just been given a promotion.”

“Of course, Ms Potts.”



Stane and The Ten Rings had mistakenly thought that kidnapping the female head of Potts Industries R&D department would be the easiest way of getting what they wanted; that because Virginia ‘Pepper’ Potts was a woman, she would be easier to scare, easier to intimidate, easier to subdue.

Pepper has spent six weeks in a cave in Afghanistan, and had come back with an intolerance for showers, a machine in her chest, a tin can suit and a conscience. Samuel Potts may be the CEO of Potts Industries, but they would be nothing without Pepper’s engineering genius. Her parents had known this, her brother knew this, Tony knew this, most of their investors knew this. In fact, the only person who hadn’t seemed to know this was Obadiah Stane.

OMG, I LOVE Pepper Potts as Rescue/Iron Man!

I spent so much time thinking about this and trying to work everything out so it would all fit (it was going to be a series of fics, following the films, and the only thing different would be that Pepper was Rescue and Betty was Hulk and Peggy was Cap and Jane was Thor) and I just couldn't get it to work how I wanted. Betty as Hulk actually worked out best in the end. Peggy as Cap just didn't work at all and... well, Jane/Thor would be easier now that it's happened in the comics but. Yeah. This one was scuppered in the end.

Oooh I love this idea! I had a similar one about Gwen being Spider-man or at least engineering herself similar powers to Peter's after TASM, but also couldn't make it work.... and now, of course, Spider-Gwen is a thing XD Oh well.
