So this is an extract from the...dark bit of a WIP which should be the third Demon AU fic. When it's finished ;) Happy Halloween!

Her hands are slick with blood as she removes his bonds, her uniform dark with it, and still he reaches for her as he stumbles. Bracing himself with one hand on her shoulder, the other catching at her hip. She takes hold of it and laces their fingers together; a binding of a different sort.

“You’re kind of a mess,” he slurs.

“I have not created such slaughter for a long time,” she informs him, the best reassurance she has to offer.

“Aww, y’didn’t leave any f’me?” he asks, his smile a slash of white teeth in his face and he means it. He means it. He means it and his grip on her shoulder tightens, holding on. “Feelin’ kinda angry myself, y’know?”

“They hurt you.” She doesn’t mean to say it, but it slithers out. Traitorous words; so difficult to grasp when she wants to use them and yet so easily do the ones she does not wish to say escape her control.

“They hurt you too,” he says solemnly and she wonders how he can see such minor injuries, but his hand leaves her shoulder so he can tap the tip of her nose with one finger, a child’s gesture but his face is serious. “On the inside,” he says, “they hurt you on the inside.”

So you singlehandedly made me interested in Maggie Stiefvater. Because no matter how many people tell me it's good, The Raven Boys has never sounded interesting to me. BUT THIS. Well.

And demon fic! :D

I know, right?! This book has the best tagline and blurb, I was so excited waiting for it to come out. I finished reading it and it is very, very good!

The Raven Cycle books didn't sound all that interesting or unique to me either. BUT that is just because no one pitched it right to me. Turns out what I needed to hear was: kind of Susan Cooper's The Dark Is Rising with lots of sass and banter. And then the thing that got me hooked? She has a a reveal, about halfway through the first book. A pretty big one. And not only did she tell you what it was, a character outright tells the reader it, and I still did not see it coming and when I realised I basically went OH WELL PLAYED and OKAY, I JOIN THE FANS.

This one is messy, but I think I know what I need to do with it. And then the fourth one is short and just needs tightening up. And the fifth one is finished ;)

Glad to hear the Demon AU is still happening! This snippet is intriguing... As is the book rec. Must. Find. Time. To. Read. More.

Oh it is! I have fic 5 finished, but i'm not doing anything with it until 3 and 4 are done. Because my fic finsihing problem now extends to, when I manage to finish, finishing out. of. order. *shakes head at self*. This one is 3.

There's a lot of good books out this autumn. My TBR pile has suffered lol. All The Crooked Saints was one I was looking forward to and it certainly didn't disappoint! Not an especially long one either, if you're tempted... ;)
